One thing you might have missed is the weather difference between the two cities. It seems like Nha Trang might be a bit drier, not as much rain and cooler during the summer and warmer during the winter? Oh and also the proximity to the airport, Da Nang being more convenient to the airport with more international flights than Nha Trang....

Fell off my chair laughing, caught my breath, climbed back up on my chair, hit the pause and rewind, called my boss over and played for her the "$6, $8, $10, $15 for a plate". Appetizers at the few places we'd like to but can't afford to go to anymore at home are more than that, even the least expensive mains are 2-3x. Perspective is everything. Thanks again kids for doing a great job scouting the world for us, we really appreciate it and every video reinforces the value we received when buying our lifetime membership, you have paid us back many, many times for that small investment a few years ago.

I am now in Nha Trang, and after being in Hoi An, Da Lat and this place it's clear, Da Lat is the winner for me. It's nice peacefull, good climate and nice cafees and a good expat community there. Less drinking and more healthy types, so Da Lat wins in Da Nang. But evendough Thailand is a little more expensive and a little harder on Visas, i Think Thailand wins out my heads up between Thailand and Vietnam. Chiang Mai is my winner so far in Sout East Asia. My nest place will be Pokhara in Nepal, and i think that is my ultimate winner due to social factors, climate and price, so cant wait to fly out next thursday to Nepal :)

I Love Da Nang! (Dec 19) I was standing on the beach road promenade in shorts and a short-sleeved shirt in the drizzling rain. I felt peace. I felt I could do this every day! Many locals had on winter coats. I was watching the locals on the beach sand doing Falun Gong, (a Buddhist meditation with movements). My only concern for the day was where I was going to eat dinner and where I was going to get my one or two-hour massage. Just an amazing, place!

Are there American cities you might compare these cities to? I saw another video where expats living in Da Nang were interviewed. One couple said Da Nang reminded them a lot of San Diego. They'd been loving living in Da Nang for the past 6? years and lived in SD for some years prior.
@dalexfilms10 ай бұрын
For climate, sure -- although Da Nang is much hotter than San Diego. Economically though, it's night and day. Might be better to compare to Tampa or Miami, though Da Nang never gets as cool as Florida or as oppressingly humid in the summer.

Quite an imagination to be reminded of any American city by any Vietnamese city. Parts of Singapore maybe, being so westernized.
@aaronbux110 ай бұрын
@@formica. It was not my comparison. The comparison was made by a Vietnamese American couple who had lived in San Diego for many years and now lived in Da Nang. Why does that makes for "quite an imagination" .. unless you've also lived in San Diego and Da Nang? Also, my comment was liked by Dan, the creator of the vid .. also an American, from California. Is there a need for you to troll and be negative?
@formica.10 ай бұрын
@@aaronbux1 Wow, sorry for the misunderstanding Aaron. No I am not a troll and Dan and Qiang Hui will concur. My reason for commenting on their useful videos is to be helpful and to clarify what Vietnam is really like for those considering an overseas move, like I made. Vietnam is not for everyone, it is not an easy country in SEAsia to acclimatize to for many reasons - Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and Philippines are better entry points. I lived most of my life in northern and southern Calif, traveled 25+ rich and poor countries, lived 8 years on south and central Vietnam and Bangkok. Dan's and Qiang Hui's channels attracts many who have never been to SEAsia, and some decide to move based only on youtube videos. Dan too emphasizes that those people are in for culture shock and possible financial loss when they realize it is unlike their expectations. I assumed from your question that you have not yet visited Vietnam and were hoping to align Vietnamese lifestyle with your American experience. In my opinion, not one city or town in Vietnam resembles even _slightly_ any place in Calif or the US. It is the third world with a few shiny parts. Good luck.

I've been in Nha Trang for the last 2 months and it's way too touristy for me. As you mentioned it's more expensive..on par with Saigon costs in my opinion. Being single here hasn't been easy to meet local women probably due to them thinking most everyone is just on vacation. Lastly, the the nightlife is VERY expensive at the dance clubs(on par with cities in the US and cater to the Chinese) and live music isn't easy to find. Very beautiful beaches and quaint coffee shops a few blocks off the beach as well as closer proximity to Ho Chi Minh kept me here, but I won't be coming back very often.

Da Nang and Hoi An are just 30 minutes apart. Their beaches are very similar as are their weather. I would say what is behind the beach is what is different. The part of Hoi An behind the beach is smaller and more intimate, small town feel. The town behind Da Nang beach has many more restaurants choices and nightlife. The Nha Trang Beach is nicer as is the park between the beach and the town. The Nha TRang Beach is also more touristy but not crazy overtouristed because it is so wide and long. The surf is smaller in Nha TRang because the islands in front calms water. The weather is better year round in Nha Trang.

The southern part of the peninsula is mostly or all military still, it was a major deep water port in the war, probably restricted, mostly sand dunes. The river is full of fish farms, and further is mostly undeveloped. Cross the bridge to Cam Ranh (we rented a motorbike) and the town is poor, no tall buildings, I doubt any foreigners live or visit. A desolate place, where tourists have no reason to leave their resorts. At least that was our impression, I hope I am ignorant of some cool reason to visit.

There doesn’t seem to be any way for the average guy to get a long term visa without getting married.

If you have been around me long enough, you know Vietnam is one of my favorite countries in the world. But Vietnam has no retirement visa. Yet, every time we visit Vietnam, we meet many older Western people who have been here for years. Many of you asked why I didn’t ask Mark what visa he has. I have never met anyone that is overstaying a visa in Vietnam and Mark is not overstaying. Everyone I meet has permission to be in Vietnam. If you are a rule follower, you should only follow the official rules to stay in a country. That is what I recommend (and that is what Mark has done). But if you ever fall in love with a country and want to stay ... ask a few expats off camera how they stay in a country without overstaying their visa. Many people all over the world find ways to stay in countries they love. But if it doesn’t sound perfectly legit to me, I never promote it on my channel ... for two reasons. One, I don’t want to disrupt the lives of older people who are happily living in a country somewhere by publicly sharing controversial solutions that could get shut down if they became widely known because of me. Two, I don’t want to publicly encourage a large number of people to use the same controversial solutions ... it might embarrass officials and place me on a shit list. Instead, do exploratory visits, ask ex-pats questions off-camera, decide where you want to live and pick the best way for you personally to make that happen. That said ... I will be sharing more details about the various ways people are staying in Vietnam long-term as I learn more off-camera from the expats I meet here. Make sure to jump on my email list if you want to hear more controversial things that I am much more likely to share in an email after I have learned more. Thailand. Contrast these two countries and avoid seeing them as similar. One’s safe and fun and the other is…enough said.

Thailand. Philippines has lots of hurricane risk and terrible local food.

Only you can answer that question. Too many variables. Also you can't compare a whole COUNTRY, just locales.

@@formica. For a first time traveler to Asia. Which is better Phuket or Borocay Island? I like good, Buddhism is nice, history and culture, Muy Thai kickboxing is nice but I love Filipino food and Filipino people are some of the nicest people I've ever met. Which do you recommend and why?

Too many Russians in Nha Trang. Also the beach is nicer in Da Nang so it's a no brainer.

Funny. In Saigon expat groups, it is the Nha Trang Chinese tourists that get complaints.
