I huge thank you to a like minded friend Ashley May for directing me to this location! You can follow her on Instagram here / watersmydad
When I was arriving at this location I could see the drive-in theater screen from the distance and I was absolutely amazed at how tall it was compared to all the other buildings in the area. When I arrived I had goose bumps because some of my fondest childhood memories are going to the Drive-In theater with my family. In addition to that I am a big Fallout 4 fan and I am not going to lie , this place felt like the abandoned Starlight Drive-In from the game.
It appears this place has closed sometime around 2012 based on some of the memorabilia that was left around. The artifacts that told the story of this place were very cool, posters, film splicing table, speaker repair shop, the projector and a lot more for such a small structure it offered a ton of exciting moments for me. What I did find VERY odd and kinda gross was the full formed and intact popcorn topping stick...um should those not have decayed in some way?
This #Urbex was fantastic for me and hope you feel the same when you walk this mile in my shoes!

I remember seeing Jaws and Grizzly double feature in this very drive in. I played in playground under the screen just before the movie and the snack bar had the tastiest egg rolls. Good times!

I worked 4 years right from high school for PACIFIC THEATRES in SO. CALIFORNIA. This brought many memories back to me. the place where you parked your car would have been black toped, and had humps, so your car would angle upward toward screen tower. I'm talking around the 70's, GOOD FATHER, WILLARD, were big money makers. Eventually the walk in theatres were better to go to, no rain or fog to close business. The land became more valuable than business, and all except one drive-in is left.Almost all properties turned in to shopping centers. Another reason these theatres and walk ins close is that movie films are now digitally produced.Which means switching over to newer and more expensive equipment. Thus you will find many theatres gone! I really enjoyed my years working at the ROSECRANS DRIVE-IN THEATRE!

The way the screen was built over the outhouse, it could been set up for rear projection and the concession stands would be at the corners of the drive-in.

In the projection booth I see Strong/Potts film platter along with it's associated "Make Up" table, a Xetron brand 4,000 watt xenon lamphouse, Century model "C" projector head mounted on top of a RCA 9030 optical soundhead (which has been updated to read the new cyan dye soundtracks starting in the mid 1990s). Notice the inside of the projector and soundhead are spotlessly clean (must be a Union booth).

great video DDO, it brought back memories for me to, I remember those speakers that went on the window. Ours was closed for about 20 years and I also roamed around it . A few years ago they repaired everything and opened it , I think it may be one of the oldest in the country, but anyway thanks again for a great video

Thank you for another great video. Very interesting to see a drive in theater as we have none in the UK that i have ever known of. This is modern-day archaeology. ---A little graffiti but no sign of anything being damaged or ransacked.---I've never seen the workings of a drive-in movie theater before. For people who like machines and movies this video provides valuable information. I noticed that there wasn't a trace of anything personal left behind by those who had worked there. I've noticed that with Armed Forces places too that have been vacated. That and the lack o damage makes for a very unusual setting.---I suppose the theater closed because people can now more easily watch new movies at home.---I love that grassy field on a summer day. If the video was just that it would still be great viewing.

Andrew Brendan they probably closed the drive in because of the industry conversion to digital. $100.000 was the average cost for theatres to replace 35mm projectors with new digital projectors July 1 2012 was the deadline for 35mm prints.after that date you either had to convert or close because the major studios stopped shipping 35mm prints after July 1st 2012

The "popcorn butter" is actually mostly soybean/canola/sunflower or coconuts oil. . It generally doesn't go bad at room temp. I've has some for years. Even left some in a shipping container and forgot about it for a year. As long as it doesn't get too hot it will stay formed in a cube and not melt www.popcornsupply.com/naks-pop-coconut-oil-bars

@@kristinacountrybathbombs2050 It's not in Elmvale. Drive up Highway 48 on the east side of Lake Simcoe. You go right by it, the screen is right beside the road on the west side. There are other businesses around it. It is not sitting in the middle of nowhere, so it hasn't been vandalised. It's quite safe. The land it sits on is far too valuable to used as a drive-in movie. Also i closed in 2012. It was a losing proposition then. I'm guessing a land speculation company owns it. Likely, being so close to Toronto, there will be in the not too distant future, a building boom. And the land will sell or many millions of dollars.
