Chocolate and Cheese combination is really common in Indonesia from martabak to Fried Banana you will find chocolate and cheese as a topping, i never think it was weird until watching Non-indonesian KZbinr pointing that out😂

I'm glad to see Indonesia at last. People have begun using English for communication in various places. For visitors from other countries, this is incredibly beneficial. Don't worry to find the weird combination of cheese - chocolate! Many Indonesian food presents contrast in taste, flavors, texture, etc. because that's how we enjoy food. You should try avocado smoothie (Jus alpukat) because avocado is considered as dessert in Indonesia.

There's also a version called Martabak piring or Martabak tipis/kering which is smaller one but it usually just come with chocolate, peanut or sesame seeds. You could find the stalls usually outside of grade school or high school just after school hour. That's my go to if im craving for martabak but neither my friends nor family would like one to share.

All of Jakarta is a culinary center which has been "hippified" with trendy cafes and the like. Yeah you are mistaken about Blok M Square. Sometimes they have a "food festival" there with many booth tents, not pushcart street vendors who sell food for a living. It's not always packed with vendors. That's still rather busy though with usual street food fare. Also that Martabak place is not in the actual area of Blok M

The interesting thing about martabak is that you should eat it while it is hot or warm to enjoy its super soft texture. If you store it in the fridge or leave it outside, it will still be edible the next day, but it won’t be soft anymore; instead, it will become dense.

You could heat it up in microwave. Depending on the microwave, heat it up 30 seconds - 1 minute. And put a cup of water inside so they won't be so dry. Same thing with heating up rice/pizza.

The best part of the martabak is the corner of the edge (the triangular cut), because it has lots of crunchy parts and not too many toppings, so if you don't like the thick taste of martabak, that's the best part. You can also request for "less milk or sugar" to the vendor.

18:00 actually cheese and chocolate combination is actually a "standard" topping in here 😂 like you could put it in everything and turn them a dessert. for the examples: - martabak - roti bakar (toast) - roti coklat keju (literally means "chocolate cheese bread"). same as a toast but untoasted version. a lot bakeries or convenience stores sell this bread. but you can make it by yourself at home using plain bread as a spread or a sandwich. very suitable for breakfast or afternoon tea 👍🏻 - pisang bakar (roasted banana/plantain) - pisang goreng (same as above but fried version) - kue cubit (literally means "pinched cake"), a traditional street food cake. the modernized version (by adding those and other toppings. the traditional one doesnt have any toppings) was went viral for a few years ago. but idk where to find it again these years 😢 - tape singkong (fermented cassava). this dish have boozy alcoholic-like flavour bcs the natural fermented process - and many many many more ✨ so if you want to other street foods in here, you can try those dishes! or you can make them at home bcs the ingredients are quite easy to find 😁

I always choose the special, because the normal one use margarine with all the trans fat, while the special is from butter, in this case dutch butter of Wijsman brand. The same diabetic level, less trans fat, much tastier (although more expensive, but martabak should be a very rare treat, if you want to keep your feet)
