Most of Myanmar people are resilience because we had been encountered so many things in the past as well as in being presence. Basically we, Myanmar people used to think positively whatever we faced difficulties. That's the reason why you guys see the smile on everyone face even though we are struggling and stressed due to current situation in Myanmar.

At this point, I am just tired. War after wars and fight after fights over the slightest disagreement. As a young Burmese, my hope is disappearing. It is hard to survive and find money in all this. It is scary, I can’t go outside without being afraid of bombs, shootings and the military.

The fact that there are so many people visiting and having fun is that many of them are not people from Yangon... they are people who fled the war from the villages... There are many people who moved to Yangon because they are afraid of the war and cannot go abroad.....However, there are thousands of people who cannot even move to Yangon because their houses have burned down. Rather than walking around because they've never been there, they're too tired to relax and walk around. Even in Yangon, the electricity always cut off and so they are visiting shopping mall to avoid heat. Almost all of young people are struggling and always worried in their daily life.

Thank you for sharing your experience it's so lovely to see you guys enjoying your time in my country. I'm currently living in Yangon originally from Shan state, a beautiful place and just like most states in Myanmar, it's at brutal war with the military regime. A lot of the youth has to find refuge and sanctuary in safer places like Yangon or overseas. I wish you could explore many more unspoiled rural areas filled with natural beauty and wonders in every corner of the country. Just like you said in the video, we have to take our mind off of the heavy stuff and find enjoyment in whatever ways we can. Thank you for showing the world that even in the face of adversity we can still smile. I hope one day you revisit Myanmar when time is moving once again.

It is nice that you want to show a "different" side of Myanmar. Not quite sure I'd call it shocking, but if you say so... By drinking beers in Harry's, you were inadvertently supporting the business of an arms dealer that supplies the Myanmar military, which is dropping bombs on and burning villages communities beyond your reach. Much more shocking IMHO.

Good content, this video. Not many visit Myanmar nowadays and there are lots of narratives, but hardly based on real time experience in traveling in Myanmar. As a European expat living and working here in SE Asia (residing in Kuala Lumpur), I still go Myanmar on a regular basis, about 3 times a year. Mainly in Yangon, but also towards the center of the country. It's tough out there, the local population is enduring hardship, war, violence and brutalities on a daily basis. Yangon is of course relatively calm and safe, but as soon as you get out of the bubble of Yangon, the world looks different. Nevertheless, as you show, the Myanmarese people, especially the younger generation, are so happy to see foreigners still visiting their country. And just for your information, when getting a taxi, just use Grab, the app everyone is suing in SE Asia, it works in Myanmar as well. Much easier than hailing taxis down the road. 🙂
