Thanks so much! I have a Aussie who loves to run. But I’m not good at running very long. So I tried riding a bike with him. Wasn’t the best at first, but this video definitely helps! Now we can both get what we want!

Appreciate the video!!! I completely agree with exposing the dog to the bike slowly. Just some food for thought regarding dog safety. I use the same bike attachment leash, however in our system I use a full chest harness and waist strap. This takes all risk off your dogs neck and allows the dog to pull if you choose that for exercise. Also, if the dog needs to stop, they can back out of the harness without a waist strap. My concern for that is that if there are any other dogs in the vicinity, you are stuck balancing a bike while your dog is free off leash. Cheers, From Monterey, California Leilani (Belgian Malinois)

I use walkydog, it goes on your bike. It extends to whatever how much slack you wanna give your dog "use a harness plz" And you can easily de-tach apart of it to walk your dog xD : i use mushers paw wax & avoid hot days!

I'm watching this because I dog a walkidog for Christmas. My dog is the same age as Sawyer here but I was under the impression that I can't use it until she's 18months. Is that correct? What age did you start?

I didn't do any of this, to be honest. I introduced Rylee to biking by walking with the bike and practicing turns. Gradually, I increased the speed and now she gets excited whenever it's time to ride. I can imagine that in her mind, the bike means it's time to run fast lol

safety 1 For England this is the right side, but the dog should walk on the other side in this case. So that the bike shields the dog from traffic, the dog could fall out and get on the roadway. safety 2 The bike's brake may need to be changed so that the left side is the rear brake, not the front brake. An emergency stop could cause you to flip over. safety 3 Where is the bicycle helmet, especially with a dog attached to the bicycle safety 4 Cycling is an intense exercise and when the outside temperature rises above 20 degrees Celsius (68 Fahrenheit), your dog is at risk of overheating safety 5 Dutch granny bike with coaster brake is the best for it, no bar, easy to get on and off, and a rear brake with both hands free, it is best to control the bike when you ride with a dog .

Why is he on the left side of the bike? This way, he is exposed to be hit by a car. I always walk my dogs on my left side and bike with them on the right side of the bike. Cheers!

You're right, but I think it's too much of an effort for a dog. you need to ride slowly and short distances.👍👍👍👍

This is related to my question: I like my dog to stay on the sidewalk at all times unless I give him permission to enter the street. I'm just now starting to train him to go alongside my bike, and I think I may need to change the side he normally walks on (from my left to my right) so that when we bike, he can stay on the sidewalk, which is on my right. Wondering if this will confuse him too much.

I'm a little bit supprised why the dog is running left from him, at the traffic side....As far I can see the shot is not taken in the UK (:

I'm not sure what that one is, but i use walkydgo, just use a harness with it & it detaches as a normal leash 😆

So I'm just curious - every single dog biking video on KZbin has the leash attached to the bike itself, and a lot of them use 2 leashes. I just have my dog's leash around my left wrist and he runs to the left of me. I feel like this is the safer way to do it because if he happens to get distracted and dart off, he's not going to be able to pull the bike down and injure me. In an emergency, I can let the leash slip off my wrist and I won't topple over. I can also keep a bit more distance away from the bike if I want to. Is there a reason behind not doing it this way? Why is it preferable to attach the dog so closely to the bike itself? Don't you run the risk of toppling over if you have a dog trying to work through its ADD?
@turbo_nerd86 Жыл бұрын
because most people are stupid hahaha kidding aside, most people aren't comfortable riding the bike with just one hand on the handlebar. I also bike with my dog the same way you do it, left hand on leash, right hand on the handlebar. It's easier to control the dog with a leash, especially when turning.

Should be trained to be on the side away from traffic. Some towns and city have laws against riding bikes on the sidewalk so you have to be on the street.

You never put a dog on a collar with fitness, like running next to the bike
@Bodkin_Ye_Pointy3 ай бұрын
I hope you guys understand the risk you are presenting to your puppies, and I understand you are not trying to hurt them, but you could actually kill them. Dogs, like many animals, and unlike humans, don't have sweat glands. Their only means of cooling is through their tongues. Further while dogs are sort of an endurance creature, they don't maintain a steady rate like a human runner. If you make them run with the bike for too long, or in too high a heat you could cause heat stroke. Remember, humans used to prey on animals by running them to death. I would check with your vet's on the situation just to be safe.

I think that is too much for a dog to handle. Why don’t you run with your dog instead. Your dog is not able to say stop I am tired or my body hurts. People please don’t put you dog thru this abuse.

Depending on the breed you have, this is a great exercise for Dalmatians in particular as they were bred to run along with horses and carriages. I used to have 3 Dalmatians at once with me, but they all wore head collars for control and always at a trot, not a gallop, with regular stops. I could do 3-4 miles and they would not even be puffed out!! They loved it!

I can't really see how this is good for the dog. Unless it would be for very short distances at a slow pace. Maybe a 1/4 mile? I recommend the DOG ask his Veterinarian first, then if the Veterinarian gives the dog permission. Go for it.
