In all honesty, nil and transfer portal were the downfall of clemson....and bama too. The big church in south Carolina has money to buy players, but cant compete with the nil now. Same with saban and bama....he paid players but the nil is killing him and thats why he retired. He couldn't have the best classes each year and buying a escalade or charger for a 5 star qb to sit on the bench 3 years wasnt cutting it. They want to play now. Not be waiting behind other 5 star players.

I’m a Notre Dame alum. I respect Dabo Swinney, his stance on the transfer portal. We’re entering a whole new world in college football (if it’s even ‘college’ anymore). And frankly, though there’s been a lot of hullabaloo about quarterbacks from the portal at ND, I don’t think they’ve made any difference at all.

With out Sam Hartman we win 7 games last year and get demolished by osu and usc Sam wasn’t the problem

@@AndreKing4 We lost to Ohio State anyway. And Southern Cal was WAY overrated from the get-go. With no Hartman and Buchner sticking around, we ld have been most likely the same 9 - 3. Same with Coan couple years earlier. We were no better because of him. And that’s my point re the ‘transfer portal.’ I guess Dabo’s point too. Think about it - only reason a guy is still around for his sixth year of college is because he ‘s NOT NFL material. I seriously doubt we’ll ever see Coan or Hartman start for any NFL team. And now with Leonard we’re apt to lose couple more our guys to the portal. Geez guys, just stay where you started!

@@pierrerochon7271 College football has been a business for a long time. Now it’s become REALLY BIG business for the top programs and their ‘schools.’ I suppose the players should be paid. And the IRS should yank the schools’ (c) 3 tax exemptions - or at least treat their athletic programs as ‘unrelated business income.’ That $20 billion endowment Notre Dame’s got was amassed, directly and indirectly, through the football program!

Dabo's Tigers beat 95% of College Football Teams without the portal. That fact seems to be lost on most commentators. We will see in 2024. The last couple of years have been an adventure, mostly caused by offensive coaches that got lazy because they had Deshaun Watson and Trevor Lawrence.

Handicapping your team by not going in the portal is a fireable offense. Clemson isn’t recruiting at an elite and it shows on the field. You think Clemson couldn’t use a cam Ward or other qbs that hit the portal it’s crazy but hey, this is start of the downfall of Clemson football program.

Hey Joe, Why does it matter to you what Dabo does? Have you checked his win/loss record with last year being an exception 9-4? Dabo may know what he is doing. I see 2 loses on the schedule in 2024. Do you see more? Last year was highlighted by Clemson beating Clemson 3 times in 4 loses.

What’s the “right way?” Ignoring legitimate ways to improve your roster. Even ND, Stanford, NW, and Vandy take transfers. And their academic standards are infinitely higher than Clemson.
