I think its interesting how Black people in America generally don't watch football or aren't as interested, because its by far the biggest sport for black people in the world as a whole. People literally kill eachother over it in Africa for example, and guys like Giannis/Embiid who grewup overseas say their first dream was to be a football player rather than the NBA. But in America its seen as either a rich suburban white kid thing, or a latino thing. Crazy how the perception of something can be so different depending on where you are.
@wxbull-sr5sh4 күн бұрын
Yep it's pretty big even like in Africa as a whole. Like I'm Egyptian, I know we aren't like black people lol. Culturally and when it comes to identity we are Arab. But some of us are genetically mixed with arab, European and African genes so yea idk what we are to be honest lol, but people in Egypt love football, by far our number 1 sport and it's the same for the whole African continent, and for the rest of the Arab world too, like when people say Qatar doesn't have football culture, from the insight of an Arab person like me, I was surprised how clueless people were like literally I know they do lol but they just don't have a good enough youth system and stuff.

I think If Football (soccer) is ever truly going to grow in America, it has to grow locally and organic, the same way it grew in Europe and South America. Every single village, town or big city in Europe and South America have at least one football club representing them in the national pyramid system. People have a much stronger connection and are invested in a team from their own local town, than a club from a completely different state, regardless if they have Messi or another half-retired superstar. It's a huge problem for American football (soccer) that only a few cities are represented in the pyramid, since MLS only allow like 15 clubs. It's no joke when we say that football is much more than just a game. It's about local pride, rivalries with your close neigbours, either between two towns close to eachother, or two teams from the same city. Historically and culturally, the different teams have different demographics

And we have to stop trying to Americanize the league
@StylistecS4 күн бұрын
I think that is the biggest issue for professional sports in America. The money is in the cities and that’s how it gravitates here. The closest thing we have to this is college sports but it’s still nowhere close to being on par with European and South America sports. Professionally you have minor leagues in baseball and basketball but none of those teams will never compete with the senior teams as our leagues are closed. The mentality is going to be very hard to fix. Like damn near impossible to fix. Which is part why I don’t see football(soccer) reaching its potential here.

The USL pyramid is going to be the driving force of the sport in the US. If you are an architect or engineer, you don't design a building from the penthouse down. You build it from the foundation up. Likewise, you don't build a sports league by simply dropping a team in a big city and saying, "Have at it, y'all". While it is painfully obvious that USL needs organization and structure, those leagues are doing things properly for the most part. Just this year, 5500 people attended the USL One final in Omaha, and 8000 attended the USL Championship final in Colorado Springs. Neither city is particularly large, but both clubs have strong local supporter bases. In the case of Union Omaha, a brand new downtown stadium is being built on the riverfront. And, after winning three shields and two league cups in five years, they are in line to self promote to the Championship. Between the two leagues, ten+ clubs will be added in the next two years in markets ranging in size from existing major league cities (Buffalo, Cleveland, Milwaukee, New Orleans) to small cities like Portland, Maine. This is how you build - create local passion where demand exists, rather than cramming a ready-made product in flooded markets with strong competition for the entertainment dollar. *IF* the USL pyramid can consolidate and restructure intelligently, *AND* implement a viable promotion and relegation structure, eyeballs will flock to it. It is high past time. There are, or soon will be, 90 independent, full time professional football clubs in the US, plus 27 full time professional reserve squads. There are furthermore ~ 180 amateur development clubs (USL 2). The USSF needs to grow a pair and figure out a plan to create a five league professional pyramid, along with a ten league, promotion-eligible national amateur league system. The clubs are there, operating and playing in communities. Just... get... it... done.

14:14 there’s a few reasons why. One is because those art pieces, especially if it’s unique(no duplicates) or from a famous artist, they can be resold for much higher amounts. Think rare Jordans, etc. Also, you get tons of tax benefits, I heard. But of course, the high prices enables only the higher income brackets to participate in these financial benefits. Also just a status symbol. So yeah, that’s why. As for the Bundesliga, not only is the style of play very suitable for people coming out of MLS, but there’s also a loooooot of Americans of German descent. At least in my part of the country.🤷🏿

8:20 Bundesliga having more viewers isn’t surprising because German clubs for decades have always signed American players, more than the PL actually. Before this current gen, the early 2010s USMNT under Klinsmann had a ton of German dual nationals. Heck most of the current gen started or played in Germany (Pulisic, Adams, McKennie, Pepi, Scally, Richards, Reyna, Tillman etc) That and there’s a large chunk of Americans with german heritage, especially in the Midwest

there is only one way i can think of that will actually increase interest in “soccer” in the US. There needs to be a world class american player. Kids know Messi. Kids love Messi. The heroes of yesteryear like Jordan are so far in the past, their impact is only declining and will continue to. Americans respect fame and influence and they are starting to realize how big these global soccer stars really are, and it's appealing. As the World Cup happens in the US, the possibility for global fame and recognition will become clearer and more tangible for American youth and soccer's popularity will continue to grow.

@@DaBronco What I'm saying is they are starting to see it, and it will become more apparent when the World Cup happens. The demographics of the US are changing and the youth are more interested in soccer than ever before. All my little cousins (boys and girls) play soccer now, and that's in the white suburban deep south where college football used to be king. Young people in the US have never experienced global competition on their doorstep, but they soon will. And it will change everything.

@@DaBronco Thank you for saying what I've been saying for many years. Your angle is spot on. American society is still a very insular society. Even though most mainstream Americans know soccer is the most popular sport in the world, they still look at it like it's a sport for foreigners and really don't care for it. I had a conversation at work the other day with a couple of coworkers. One of them actually thought the Super Bowl was the biggest sporting event globally. My other coworker corrected him and said that it's not and that the rest of the world watches soccer. The other guy was so shocked he had to Google it to see if it was true. lol. Most Americans really only care what's happening in America. They don't care about the rest of the world. Bronco is totally right.

This video is horrible and highlighting the wrong things. Soccer is growing because it has already taken over Ice Hockey in the USA and soon to take over Baseball. There was a study that more kids under 15 follow a soccer team than MLB. The problem for the MLS is they put themselves behind a pay wall before it has established a mainstream presence, killing the momentum of the league. The EPL is drinking their milkshake because it is only league that gets games shown on network TV and is driving the growth of soccer in the USA, especially with popularity shows like Ted Lasso about the EPL. So the EPL is getting bigger in the USA and MLS has hindered their growth with the Apple deal.
