DABZEE, MC COUPER, THIRUMALI on how they chose their names, their musical style

In this very special episode of IN FOCUS we feature very special artists - Rappers in Malayalam. they are the most prominent rappers in Kerala. Dabzee, Thirumali and MC Couper are among the Rap musicians who have created the top of the charts Rap songs in Malayalam.
Dabzee`s real name is Mohammed Fazil. Fazil started his music career in 2020 with his first successful single MANUSHYAN with Manushyar. The group "Manushyar" consists of Dabzee, M.H.R, Joker390P, SA Rapper. Dabzee shot to fame with the Manavalan Rap in the movie Thallumala starred by Tovino Thomas.In 2023, they released Malabari Banger which got which rose to charts, grossing Top 4 in the iTunes Dance Charts, and with over millions of streams. "Sambar" which featured the Malayalam Industry's popular hip-hop artists ThirumaLi, FEJO, and Thudwiser.In 2024, He sung the song "Illuminati" from the Malayalam movie 'Aavesham' starring Fahadh Faasil. The song was composed by Sushin Shyam.
MC Coupers aka Shambhu Ajith is one of the lead rappers in Malayalam today.`s Thalatherichavar form the movie Romancham shot him to the limelight. His earlier songs scheme is still popular among the youth. he has produced several songs in collaboration with Thudweiser and Parimal Shais. He is known for his lyrical content and strong control over the language whether it is English or Mlayalam.
Kireedam song from the movie Naradan too was a hit. One of his earlier tracks Nerchappattu, a vigorous number that talks about caste and class-based oppression, in 2019. It was, and still is, one of the most rated tracks from the album Kumari Kandam Traps, Vol. I, produced by Parimal Shais. There are many such popular tracks like Vaevu. Extremely talented and absolutely down to Earth one thing is for sure he is going places.
ThirumaLi is one of the seniors among the Artists creating Rap Music way before the rest of the new players entered the industry. His song Malayali Da is one of the most popular Rap Songs even to this day. Vishnu M S, known professionally as ThirumaLi is an Indian rapper, singer and songwriter from Kerala He is best known for his singles, "Naadan Vibe", "Malayali Da", "Sambar", "Avastha" and "Naade Naattaare (from Operation Java)". He is widely recognized for his Malayalam rap songs that showcase profound lyrics and narratives behind each track.
In this 3-part conversation we talk about a whole lot of things. The beginnings of their Journey as Rap Artists, the relationship they share with other musicians like Baby Jean, Parimal Shais. They talk about how they create the music what they do and what inspires them. They talk about the days when Rap music in Malayalam wasn`t as popular as it is today and their struggles in those days. It is also interesting to see how film industry is embracing rap music.

But it was only last year, through Malayalam cinema, that I stumbled upon Dabzee and the exciting new talent emerging in the scene.
