DaC V5 - Vale of Dorwinion 4: Ending the Easterlings

This is Divide and Conquer Version 5. This brings the Lord of the Rings setting into a Total War game. This was livestreamed and will be uploaded in parts to KZbin.

IIRC resource values are mostly based on how far they are from your capital: if you have a certain type of mine close by, the ones further away won't be worth any more. I believe trade networks e.g. ports will raise the value as well.

Yeah, there are the 20 and 60 tile buffs and trade boost from capital, doesn't explain the huge variations of previous campaigns to this one. Maybe Caras Sant just has a massive hidden trade bonus and moving the capital ruins merchant income. Though, moving the capital gets additional money anyway.

Fantastic episode, except Erebor has let me down, I have been defending them on every episode. but hey, now that you control the sea of Rhun and with Gundabad about to steam roll Dale you can retake the mountain and the river trade for bigger money moves.

Bribing is removed yes. I've found that diplomats doing the bribe attempt will lead to them declaring war within a couple turns.

I haven't made that connection. I thought friendly factions often did the bribe attempt and they don't declare war.

Dorwinion feels like a great starting faction for new players with it script for the two the human and elves choose

Maybe. If you don't clamp Rhun really quick you end up with full stacks every 2-3 turns rocking up on your doorstep. I would probably rate most dwarf factions as beginner friendly. DaC as a whole is pretty difficult, much harder than vanilla med 2.

@@epmtotalwarI agree. Dorwinion can be very difficult if you don’t know how to play as them. Best faction for beginners would be the High Elves in my opinion.

It's gonna be rough trying to keep Mordor/Dol Guldur contained in the west. Probably just post up at the Varfest/Logarth/whichever other castle borders that line and move through Mordor from Darz Ghurum and eat away Mordor from the safety of the Mountains....You'd think it would get easier once Rhun is gone but with Khand going bad it's actually harder. Thankfully Dale didn't grab any of the best settlements around the SoR so you'll be able to crank out money. Dale goes bankrupt nearly always in V5 so you might be able to buy Wintirion from them for 50k or a Regular Tribute if you felt so inclined.

Yeah, out of the frying pan and into the fire. I think I can apply pressure on Mordor from both sides and I'll need to if I want to keep Gondor alive.

Appreciate the support mate, thank you. In terms of beginner factions I think position on the map has a lot to do with it, ability to quickly get an economy rolling and amount of micro required to get passable results in battles. Factions that start off surrounded can quickly turn into a 4v1 situation and if you sat around and didn't deal with one quickly it can turn into a 'defend your last two settlements campaign' on repeat. Not sure I want to give a 1 to 5 but I've give a top 5 in no particular order: Ered Luin, Erebor, Harad, Rhun and High Elves. It's tricky and I still have reservations on this list. Dorwinion would be close as well as Bree since they have relatively safe starts with 1 primary enemy to begin with and have very strong economies.
