He showed up on our doorstep 7+ yrs ago. Young, handsome, healthy, polite standard longhaired. My first hound, first smaller dog. Oh, my! Did I have a lot to learn! He's trained me well and trusts my instincts--when in doubt, he looks to me for an ok. Never really trained him, he just wants to please and rarely disappoints me though if a meal is 10 minutes late he doesn't let me forget it. He's the cuddliest, sweetest companion. He can pick out the shifty person in a crowd almost instantaneously. Smart as a fox and as intense as a dog gets. I was blessed the day he was dumped as unwanted. Their throwaway is my treasure.

Such a beautiful breed with soooooooo much personality packed into such a small (and long) package. They're way smarter than people think and major food/snack addicts. Lol I'm sure he appreciates you letting him live with you, and I'm sure he tries to let you know that. They bond with owners big time, so no doubt he loves you (maybe even as much as food, hehe). But I had to learn that she doesn‘t show any pain when it is serious: one day she got ill (nobody knew hey and which illness), but blood parameters were horrific and she nearly died by sitting there showing no sign of pain. She survived but I really want you to keep in mind, that Wieners probably don‘t say a word when they need immediat help. Thank you for making me a better person, Nouki. In New Zealand. When I was 13 my parents best friends moved to Malaysia as trade commissioner. They had a standard tan male Dachsie -Kim and asked us to have him which we did. What a great little guy he was. Unafraid of any other dog but so good with people. Our friends taught him a whole lot of tricks which he did at dinner time to stop him gulping his food. He would walk backwards, sing a song, make a noise like a motor racing , roll over and because his previous owner,Susie was a Canadian when told to "die for Canada", he would lie flat of the floor and play dead, and last but not least put his nose up on a chair between his paws on the command of" say your prayers" and stay there till we said "amen". He loved to dig holes, chase cats, mice, rats and hedgehogs. We really missed him when he passed away

@tomstclair9612 жыл бұрын
I've had an array of different breeds of dogs in 65 yrs. I will say that my little dachshund was one of the coolest dogs I've ever had the pleasure of being with. I mean they all have a special place in my heart , but she really dug deep into my heart..They broke the mold after she came in the world.. The courage of a lion. The competitiveness of a pure athlete and the heart bigger than mine. She played soccer with me . She ran on the beach and out ran me . A personality that would rock the world. Had her for 19 yrs. I rescued her.. It was the first dog I had ever had to take to the vet and have put to sleep. It was an absolute train wreck for both of us. But I found out their one weak spot is the spine between the shoulder blades. Because they don't have long legs to act like shock absorbers on a car. All the shock from jumping from furniture or trucks or whatever goes right to the spinal column. It was bone on bone and she was in intense pain each day with her head hanging low. So the doc said I'm afraid after all these great years together it's time to give her back to God now. It totally wrecked me!! I mean really wrecked me. I rescued a one year old blue pit to try and fill her shoes but it's not the same. I'm going to have another one or two very soon. They are every bit as cool as this video portrays them to be. One person dog that loves attention and doing things together. They need companionship also so don't get one and leave it in the house all day until you get off work and then spend 5 minutes with it then leave again. The will become very depressed and feel unwanted just as any of us would as well. Give them great food, lots of love and attention and be creative because they are super smart dogs. They do the things you would never believe possible.. Good luck. ✌️😎🙏🙏♥️

Never have I known a dog with such a sense of self. These little monsters will torment when they want but are never unreasonable, and before you know it they’re back to that affectionate and graceful demeanour. There is something almost human within them, as is they develop a little ego. They were bred to make independent decisions while inside badger sets where the owner can’t call out commands so it only makes sense. They’re the full package personality wise.

Great ones! Probably the best dogs I've ever had. My last one, Bubba der Shrek (terrible baby) loved to eat. I mean, anything. He tried to catch a mouse in the wall by drilling thru the plaster and lathes. Much later, we were processing peaches for jam and pieces fell on the floor. He ate them all, and licked up any spatters. Just when we finished, I saw him staring at a piece of peach. He sighed and backed away, then crawled into his nest and rolled over on his back with a groan. I checked him once in a while to make sure he was alive. He seemed at death's door. After 4 hours, I said, "Go hunting?" He was up like a shot bouncing at the back door. We went out back in the mesquite so he could deflate. He spent an hour digging for ground squirrels but never caught one. and did he deflate. Ground squirrels were plentiful and are a grayish tan color. For weeks after that all I saw was one black and tan one, and it looked to be in a hurry to relocate. BTW, he was named for my youngest son, then in the Army. They had a lot in common, always battle ready, always eager to go hunting, messy eaters and on occasion same foul temperament, but usually happy and ready to bounce into action.

I once pet a Dachshund and a Great Dane at the same time. Funny when they're mocking one another!

When I was 5 years old I was at my aunts house and she had dachshund named Schnubse and didn’t appreciatelittle boys chasing him around he was the first dog to bite me . After that I learned he was the master of the house ( king ) and we had years of fun and became best buddies. I was so sad when he died , he was such a good boy :-)

I miss my daschaund so much. He passed away years ago but I still miss him like he was just here yesterday. I haven't been the same since he's been gone. I miss my best friend so much.

Mine was so nice & amiable. She was always welcoming when I arrived . She waited for me . She just died 3 days ago due to loss of appetite and over stress as I have no time for her to play. She mined it. My family really felt so sad and we can't get over when she died. I always think of her everyday doing. So sad..😢

I love Dachshunds we had a brown one named Rust when my brother and I were growing up. He take his treats and put them under my pillow for latter. When our son was 5 we got a black and brown doxie named Max. Our son called Max his brother they could not be out of each other’s sight very long. Max knew when it was time for his buddy to get home from school he would sit by the door waiting of my son. He lived to be 15 years old.

We lost are mini long hair a week before Christmas. She was the Will Rogers of Dachshunds never met anyone she didn’t like. I did field trials with her everyone loved her. She was Field Champion Callalilly American Express. We never left home without her. I still get teary eyed thinking about her. I know she’s in heaven sitting on Gods lap giving him kisses.
