The start of the video is right to the point. After me buying 10 year old BMW and spending 7k€ on servicing and parts within 1.5 years, I decided to dump all that "performance" marketing rubbish and bought a Dacia Duster. Going for practicality, period.

Great review, I have the previous model. I am considering the new model, however I really like my 1.3, 4 cylinder engine and manual handbrake which in my opinion should not have been replaced by the electronic handbrake. As you say it ticks a lot of boxes but the reason I bought my Duster is because I could manually fold the mirrors, tilt my interior mirror, dip my headlights and do basic maintenance on the car myself................think I will keep this one.

One thing you didn’t mention with the “you clip” accessories is the lamp, it comes with a usb-c charging cable and obviously fits on all the lugs, particularly useful on the underside of the tailgate if you are unloading in the dark.

I have ordered a new model which will not be ready until February. I did not go for the hybrid as you get less room and no where to put a spare tyre. I like having a real spare tyre which is an extra cost, particularly as I now live in Portugal and breakdowns services are not as quick as the UK. I have also ordered the extra side parking camera as with some of the roads in Lisbon you only get a few mm clearance space each side of the car. I am hoping this is going to be a reliable car as I intend driving occasionally back to the UK at times to see family.

What a great review! Thanks so much, you answered every single one of my questions that I had in the back of my mind about the new automatic full hybrid Journey. I was wary, I really wanted a standard ICE version of the automatic, but now that you’ve said that the mid range acceleration is just fine with. the full hybrid, you have won me over. Thankfully I won’t have to plug it in! That would have been a dealbreaker for me. I have the current Duster Journey 130 manual, only 18 months old, but I need to change it for an automatic gearbox due to physical problems following a fall, but really want to stay with a Duster as I love my current one so much. Great to see the sandstone colour too, as that’s the one I am thinking of. I do a lot of country lane driving in and out of farms and up tracks, so was wondering about the grey to show less mud, but having seen the sandstone I’m smitten. On my current Duster I have Michelin Crossclimate tyres, and to be honest I find them just as good as having 4x4 in snow and ice. Decision made, thank you! Off to the dealership . . .

Had an early model Duster (diesel 4x4) for 6 years, now replaced by a Duster 2 (petrol 4x4). It's a perfect country car, I live at the bottom of a muddy lane, attend events in muddy fields, carry tools and furniture etc. The biggest improvement with the Duster2 is the speedo, on the original Duster it was impossible to see in bright sunlight!. 2nd best improvement: the heater controls can be moved without needing two hands and are shaped enough you can tell the position by feel alone. 3rd the driver's electric window goes up and down with one touch. Small things really matter! Not keen on this mkIII iteration. Not keen on Hybrid, nor only 3 cylinders. Perhaps, as your intro hinted: if it's a good idea that is obvious from the start; 2nd version is field tested and a great improvement; but that attracts new customers who don't understand what made it succeed.

Watch so many reviews before deciding to get one or not , as so many people have mentioned this review is brilliant and I agree , So I went along to AC Stirling spoke with Harry Mellor one of the product Consultants. What a enthusiastic guy I was so impressed then it was time for a wee test drive impressed again , I ordered my 74 plate and have been driving it for several weeks now my personal review is …… love it !! Only piece of advice I’d give is if you don’t already know about driving efficiency drive this car within the recommended green zone , … although I opted for the 1.2 tce 130 duster I don’t accelerate madly though the box taking my time and box change down through the gears all helps with fuel efficiency, fair to say I can achieve approximately 40-45 mpg but still getting to grips with it , All in all i love our duster

Seems to be a great value SUV. However, pretty much every time I research the ownership experience there's always a bunch of owners talking about problems with the infotainment screen. Instances such as it randomly freezing or not even working on warm weather days until restarting the engine. The former issue seems like it could be remedied with a firmware update if one is issued whereas the latter seems like it could be due to poor electronic isolation which won't be fixed by a firmware update.

Excellent review, many thanks. I was interested in what you said about the discomfort you suffered because of the position of your left leg when driving the auto/hybrid version. I live in France and bought the same hybrid in September (L/H drive ) and there’s tons of space for one’s left leg. It obviously depends on whether your left leg rests against the wheel arch (L/H ) drive version or the transmission tunnel in the R/H drive UK specked version…..I’ve driven 6,000 kms so far and it’s still a great car. 😊
@alanrobertson97902 ай бұрын
Got the Duster 2023 and to answer your question yes for a 3 or 4 hour journey the left leg position resting on hard plastic does become uncomfortable. I have a question for a Duster Hybrid owner. If you overtake does the electric motor assist in a useful way? (Electric known for good acceleration characteristics). Reason I ask is before I had a Vauxhall Insignia 2 litre diesel 168 hp useable throughout the speed range. My 150 hp Duster easily climbs hills but overtaking with the turbo, the engine sounds horrible so I avoid it. Overall I love the Duster for everything apart from overtaking.

So I have owned 2 dusters love them paid 20k for last one top range 150bhp auto with off road pack and alarm it was a bargain So waiting for journey hybrid 140 to come out Still waiting I thought it was a bit pricey Duster car been delayed can’t test drive waiting time to order Just dragging on So looked at a the new MG HS 2024 trophy auto 1.6 turbo Bit more pricey but got a good discount due to my work So £26,100 Same price as the duster No comparison The MG has tons more kit the interior and exterior finish far is superior 7 year warranty I could go on electric everything Plus 39mpg So as a duster fan I think the lower spec cars are a good deal But the journey hybrid is too expensive and in my opinion And compared to the MG HS at the price I got it The duster is no where near as good value And the MG HS is a joy to drive And it pains me to say it the duster has lost it edge It dull in comparison to the MG HS

you can't get two water bottles in the centre arm rest ...... but I bet you can get a can of Irn Bru and a water bottle in there?

CUP holders. CUP. Don’t get why reviewers go around carrying tall water bottles these days, they are supposed to be for takeaway cups etc

The only very big problem of these dusters is the very low front visibility window. It is like driving a tank. So small front window, famuly car is expected to have great visibility from front and side windows, when you are on adventure holiday nice road, you want to see outside the beauty. This do not happen in dusters...

A little surprised that an hour long review of a “car for family use” didn’t place emphasis on safety - NCAP 3 stars overall with front driver/passenger chest protection rated as “marginal” ….. certainly not a strong suit for the car. Of course one can argue there’s a trade off between affordability and passive / active safety, however potential buyers should be aware of this allowing for an informed choice.

You make a very valid point. I have to say, I’m not a big advocate of NCAP ratings these days as they tend to emphasise active electronic safety aids rather than passive structural integrity, but even so, this is something that I should have included in the review. I will endeavour to mention safety ratings in future reviews and thank you for your feedback.

3 stars are simply because there is no option for Active Safety System... Now tell me how many cars did you own with Active Safety Systems? All family members drive a car with automatic braking? No? Now, that's your answer...

Been driving over 40 years and managed, without all of the latest active safety gizzmos, with no issues. The nut at the steering wheel is the biggest risk.
