Very old player here. AP-Ammo really was not a big thing back then. You really only researched it, if you went streight to hammers or did some sort of weird rifle foxhole rush. The watchtowers back then in the almost unpatched game were just so weak, not even ap did much for them and the carrier have been really more used for very mobile rocket infantry, because the main armament of them was medioker.
