I need to see Johnny 5 in person. He was one of my childhood heroes.

God bless you sir! This video has brought a tear to my eye! Takes me back to SC2 when Johnny 5 was left for dead by thugs with crowbars. God i miss my 80"s childhood. This and Flight Of The Navigator 😢❤

Right now, with the ease of vacuforming, 3D printing, smaller and more powerful servos, remote controls, ordering CAD made parts online and having them shipped over in days or less, all the info you can find, it is insane what you can do. While i do not think there is a major market for it, i wish there was someone making a kit to build one. Sure it would be expensive, it would be worth it.

Its amazing that the movie prop creators of these robots started from scratch and created these working models in months instead of years. They were very well thought out as well. The crouch, stand and stair climbing, all terrain capability is something we still don't see in commercial robots. Very impressive. There s one video shows a machine shop during Covid making parts for J5 they never completed the project due to other business. But, IIRR they were going to make their CAD drawings for hip swivel and shoulder mounts available.

A mate of mine built a Dalek from scratch, which has an electric wheelchair inside so you can sit in it and drive it around. Complete with voice changer so that you sound like a Dalek. We took it to his local pub one night at chucking out time and harassed drunks leaving, asking for a beer or cigarettes. All fun & games until the Police turned up, but even they saw the funny side.

The best part of the story is that one of the guys leaving the pub came running over all excited and said, "I've got a full size TARDIS in my living room." I kid you not.

A few years back we toured a 🌽 🎥 studio in San Francisco in the old armory building. The basketball courts had once been used by nearby Lucasfilm to film the stop motion shots for Empire Strikes back so the building is zoned for film production. Anyway, sitting in the back of one of the many tiny sets, next two two 55 gallon drums of lubricant (yes, really) was one of the original on-screen Number 5 robots. He’d been, uh, fitted with some new parts. But there he was!

I'm 28 as a kid i watched this with my mother all the time🙏 and back in the late 90s early 2000s I'm not sure people realize how rare this robot actually is, as a kid i even wanted a mini figure #5 but there was nothing for these movies literally impossible to find, so we built a homemade mini model one😊 they were extremely rare let alone a REAL lifesize replica, back then the only lifesize robots were the puppets they used in the movie and a lot of them got destroyed 😢 it warms my heart to see this robot still turning heads and giving people smiles in the modern day❤️ #5 is and always has been my favorite robot, all the way down to the design, you can even see his design replicated in a lot of modern day robots like Wall-E

Amazing work. Just like the original film robots, he moves so naturally and his face is so expressive that it completely tricks some part of your brain into thinking he really could be a thinking, feeling creature. To capture all that in a home build is incredible.

I think Johnny 5 should have his own TV comedy Series or a brand new version of Short Circuit movie since the he's very population from 1986.
