@@LordFirekaze I had an English teacher in the year 2000 that was smart enough to use Pac to get through to us. When the topic of poetry came up, we all ignored her. She knew that 2Pac was a favorite rapper for majority of the class. The poetry she chose was "a rose that grew out of concrete." We were all kids that had major behavior issues, or came from broken/abusive homes, and she knew that specific piece of poetry would hit home. As someone that has made a pretty good life for myself (job, family, life in general...) this teacher doesn't know the impact it had. I remember it 22 years later, like it was yesterday. I'm 55, and a white woman. I was a single mother in the 90's, raising three children completely on my own without any support from anywhere, living in public housing and supporting all four of us on $13 an hr. It was rough. This song particularly, helped me get through those years, knowing I was seen and understood so accurately, and appreciated. Tupac was an amazing man aside from his music, well ahead of the consciousness of that era, and even to this day. Much more advanced and elevated in his Soul, like Prince. I will forever and ever hold this man in my heart for all the strength he gave me through his music for a lot of trials and tribulations in a socioeconomic trench. I felt comforted by the lyrics, the beats, the message.....there will never, ever, ever, ever be another Tupac. I hope he really is in Cuba living his life in Peace, but then again....maybe he is in another dimension far away from this nonsense called 'humanity'. Love you forever Pac.

I can't listen to that song without shedding tears because I can relate. I was in and out of jail, selling drugs since I was 15, then began to use them by 17 and (after a long fight with addiction, incarceration and (everything that comes with it) I got clean 10 yrs later. By then, my younger brother of 11 yrs was doing the same shit only worse and all 3 of us boys had put our single mother thru hell and yet, she was the most selfless person I've ever known the entire time! After my brother put her through over 10 yrs of heartache and constant worries, I was able to buy, gut and remodel a little 2 bedroom 1 bath Condo for her to retire a little early in. Everything was brand new with tags on all the appliances, new kitchen cabinets,granite,floors, doors (literally everything from the drywall in) and she was so excited! One day I was finishing up the bathroom walls and she was supposed to come over and do some touch up in the bedrooms because she wanted to be a part of the whole thing and she was really good at diffrent types of DIY improvements. But, , she didn't show up and after I called her a few times throughout the day without an answer, I had a pit in my stomach and went to her apartment to find her cold and stiff. She died shortly after she told me she was coming over the day before (according to the time of death.) I never got to see the smile on her face when she would've moved in and seen the finished product 2 wks later! She was classy, looked like a million bucks (even though she didn't have 2 nickles to rub together) but, you'd never know that and she'd go without to provide for us.

A little background for your father and you to explore...Tupac's mother was Afeni Shakur. She was a Black Panther activist. Read her book. She named Tupac after a revolutionary leader by the name of Tupac Amaru from Peru. Tupac grew up as a young activist. He was an avid reader and a young performer in acting. Often times record labels will push black artists to develop a more edger gangster persona to sell records. Sadly rappers with a more poetic and conscious message are forced to "dumb it down" and play a stereotype to keep their contracts.

Dad in the video, never apologize for being a real man and father in front of us. Your emotion is warranted and refreshing to see in a world that has largely told men they can’t cry. Please continue to be you and show your son and everyone watching that this is manhood too. Tupac is incredible beyond words. I hope you’ll also watch some of his interviews as well to get to know the man behind the music. He was a revolutionary much like Bob Marley and many others. He was extremely gifted and intelligent, passionate, explosive and so many other things wrapped up in one human being.

Thank you!! I'm a male raised by a single mom, and I cry so often. If something touches my soul, either in a good way or bad way, I'm gonna show it. Masculine egoism is cringe anyway.
@YzaekPark2 жыл бұрын
That's a half true, crying for everything isn't good too. His dad cry for some good reason, but _"that this is manhood too"_ it's a false statement.
@GoodMomBeauty2 жыл бұрын
@@YzaekPark I don’t remember asking for your opinion. Smart people know that nobody man or woman should cry over everything. “Your emotion is warranted” was your first clue that this is already understood by me. And it is a part of true manhood to express ANY emotion you are feeling, including those that induce tears. I couldn’t care less if you agree. I for one will not raise yet another emotionally impotent man that can’t cope with their feelings in healthy ways because no one allowed them space to. Seek therapy if you need it.
@YzaekPark2 жыл бұрын
@@GoodMomBeauty You don't ask me and I don't fkn care. Was my opinion and I put on YT when I want it. You understand? Mucho entender? No? _"And it is a part of true manhood"_ you don't know anything about manhood, please ma'am. _"I couldn’t care less if you agree"_ the feeling is mutual lady. _"I for one will not raise yet another emotionally impotent man that can’t cope with their feelings in healthy ways"_ you aren't the standard-bearer of anyone, don't give yourself powers that don't correspond to you. Your mistaken way of thinking how men have to be is in fact what causes them to suffer more than they already do. And don't worry about me, ma'am, I already took therapy for depression and anxiety, in fact all people end up needing therapy and those who think they don't, are the ones who end up needing it the most. Believe me, it's horrible to feel weak and cry uncontrollably because that's what the uninformed ladies advise young people like me to do, which is what should be done, how ridiculous. Again, you have absolutely no idea what masculinity or manhood is.

"Dear Mama" was one of 25 recordings selected for preservation at the National Recording Registry in the Library of Congress in 2010, making it the third hip hop song to do so, following tracks by Public Enemy and Grandmaster Flash. The Library of Congress has called the song "a moving and eloquent homage to both the murdered rapper's own mother and all mothers struggling to maintain a family in the face of addiction, poverty and societal indifference."

He’s 32 now and no matter how much I loved him and was there for him he just couldn’t get his life right due to alcohol and drugs. It pains me to say out loud that he is now in prison and it’s sad because he’s really a good person underneath all of that. He’s doing so good now and I’ll be here waiting with open arms when he comes home. Thanks for this video. The sun was setting in the city of Grand Rapids, MI where they never played black music before in Western conservative MI until around that year and I remember it so vividly. I was tearful and bought the "tape" that week. I never imagined that I'd be playing that same song to my own kids raising them as a single mom trying to do the best I could with no family or help from anyone. As a mother, you try your best with what you have been given and you pray your kids will forgive you and realize without a doubt they were and always will be loved. His lyrics are heartfelt speaking the reality of how hard it can be raising kids but in the end, LOVE truly is and always be the ONLY thing that matters. Thank you for honoring this beautiful song and the legendary Tupac.

@@radicalred474 you blamed the government huh? you keep believing the bs you just said about black fathers, we are definitely in our childrens lives, but the media that look like you dont want to show that. if you want to blame somebody, try systemic racism, redlining, jim crow laws, sundown towns, non equal opportunity employment, and guess who came up with that?..and i can go on and on why black fathers was absent, but you wouldnt like it though..and i definitely know that yte fathers are absent too, so how about you heal yourself, we are just fine.

I think it is so cool how your dad is sharing a genre totally alien to his generation. I am 67 and I also appreciate Tupac’s genius

How is it "alien" to his generation? LOL I'm 48 and TuPac was only a bit older than me. His dad isn't that old. LOL

@@Hervinbalfour because it isn't his generation at all lol. 67 is almost 20 years off from 48. Now 48 would line you up with Tupac's music but a 67 year olds hardest music would be Earth Wind and Fire. 🤣

Man, I was so lucky my teenage years took place during the '90s. The music from the generations leading up to the 90s had great bands, that many artists drew inspiration from. The '90s was a time when the music scene gave us hip hop aka rap. Where stories were being told from the perspective of the artists. Hip-hop artists showed us the inequalities between what the media told us about those living on the fringes of our society. And the factual reality of how people truly are living. Tupac stood out with a hand of artists who could paint a picture of these indifferences in one's mind with his lyrics.

I feel like 2PAC knew his life would be cut short, but he had to let his mother know how much he loved her. He may have had a tough exterior, but he loved his mother. It’s sounds like he forgave her for her imperfections and appreciated her for the person she was. Beautiful song. I would love to see more people forgive, for not one of us is perfect.
