Leaving a 9 year old alone for 3 days is child abandonment and your Dad could have gone to jail for that. Not sure why you even speak to these people. You need to be No Contact with your Dad and Jane. Get a restraining order if necessary. There is no benifit maintaining any contact.

As soon as the father played the 'family' card, OP had a grand opportunity to shit in his cornflakes. "But Dad, we both know that 'family' treats 'family' like shit. You wouldn't want me to break 'family' tradition, would you?"

The aunt should have called Child Protective Services (CPS) when she realised that OP had been left behind to watch the house and the stepsister`s dog. To go on vacation and leave a nine year old child alone is a criminal act. While it would have been a first offence, it would have resulted in a report being started on the couple and ,perhaps, some monitoring. Once enough evidence was collected, Aunt Sarah could have stepped up & acted as a guardian.

I have known people like this, bouncing between partying and attending school. They keep that up as long as there is someone to fund their lifestyle. When I started a state school there was a guy, let's call him John, who was sitting in the quad when I arrived on campus. He had graduated from high school with my sibling four years earlier. He greeted me and said there was a party at X frat house that Friday, and I should be there. When I graduated six years later with two separate majors, he was still there, talking about frat parties. This was during the Vietnam War, but he was never drafted and never enlisted, so there was no good explanation for him to be there for ten years and counting. For all I know he is still under that tree in the quad, talking to the freshmen girls. Not creepy though, just sad.

They left a nine year old home alone? That’s illegal in most countries. Is this story even real? Because if OP was a couple of years into college and she left at 18 it means she was 20 and Betty 28. How is a 28-year still in college? What a ridiculous story!

The bigger question is, why are you still in contact with them? Also, at 12 and later, OP was old enough to seek legal help. She was old enough to demand to go live with her aunt. The abusers were butt hurt their victim got away. Also, trying to trap the OP in academic dishonesty is just a criminal act. The OP should have changed her phone number.

To be honest I think the father really needed that reality check at the end. he pretty much made his own biological daughter feel like she was nothing but a maid in the home. right after she lost her mother! there are consequences for your actions and these are the ones for the father. his own daughter doesn't want to have anything to do with him anymore and his other daughter is pretty much useless! also the really think after treating her the way they did that you would just jump to the opportunity to help them? and like op said if they want to help their favorite daughter they should do it themselves. because at the end of the day they treated her like a princess and now she can't do anything without them. I applaud op for just willing to move on and not fix something that's been broken beyond repair. and now her father will have to take it to the grave that his own biological daughter doesn't want anything to do with him I will most likely never accept him as a father again. also no kid owes their parents for raising them. that is literally their legal obligation by law. an obligation isn't the same thing as a favor. a favor would have been doing stuff like buying her expensive toys, Going on really luxurious vacations and so many other things. but just giving a kid a home and food to eat it's your legal obligation along with education. they treated their maid like crap and now they don't have any control over her. I hope they rot with their favorite child. because quite frankly they've destroyed whatever possibilities they have for future.

I know personally two friends who were left at ages nine and ten to take care of their younger siblings while the parents went god knows where. Probably to get high. You know what those friends were afraid of? That THEY would get into trouble if they didn't keep the house clean and the siblings fed and taken care of. I doubt they even knew of anything like CPS. Children often keep things like that secret, and one of these friends' mother told her if she didn't keep everything together the police would come to the house and arrest HER, a nine year old, and this friend, now in her sixties, believed her. None, and I mean NONE, of this story was unbelievable, unfortunately. Op was one of the lucky ones who had extended family who saved her.
