Cole, this was one of your best videos! I must not be alone in that opinion with nearly 300/1 likes to dislikes out of 2,200 views within just hours of posting. You consistently carry very high ratio numbers in all categories, among the highest on KZbin! Yesterday I found, by accident, your April 15, 2018, post of Phantom 4 Farm Fly-over After 15inch Blizzard. I encourage all your subs to find that post! It is one of the finest examples of drone work I have ever seen - yet among your very first! With only 2,912 views after nearly 2 years, it has a like/dislike ratio of 125/0. At 4.29% likes to views that is a tremendous accomplishment!

Your Dad is great and it is wonderful you guys really get along. Posing at 6:25 is " Out Standing in his field"👍 Quick maybe dumb question from a non farmer. If bacteria getting in the drooping open umbilical cord is such a huge problem why has no one invented a clamp to close it off or a method to close it off? Does it eventually close on it's own and fall off like one on a human baby?
@danpueppke9577
@danpueppke9577 4 жыл бұрын
Yes, they slough off, as any other animal. I suspect a clamp won't prevent passage of bacteria. Generally, we never had much issue with infected navels on calves. We did always treat piglets with iodine when we processed them, as prevention.
@yurizhivago4848
@yurizhivago4848 4 жыл бұрын
@@danpueppke9577 I have watched some interesting videos from the New York Farm Girls and they run a huge dairy operation. They spray iodine on the umbilical cord and mentioned that keeping the calving area very dry and clean is very important. Bacteria sickness seems to be a huge common problem. kzbin.info/door/DJz_PQbNBsCzH9KM08XGeA Wet hay must breed bacteria. They use lime on the ground and then wood shavings to try keep everything bacteria free. Kinda makes me wonder how natural cows calving in the wild or open manage to survive.I watched a episode of Dr.Pol and they had a e-coli problem on the ground in a wet spring and the calves were getting sick. Myst have been thru the open umbilical cord? Maybe farming has natural problems and sicknesses and a mortality rate. I should talk to my Mom someday as she grew up on a farm with cows.
@briansonne814

Great question, mostly guys just spray navel with iodine to help prevent uptake.
@yurizhivago4848

@@briansonne814 Maybe nobody has thought of inventing a disposable clamp. If it saves the life of a few expensive calves for each farmer/rancher it may be worth it. I see a business opportunity?👍 Problem is how to get the critters to stand still and be clamped with a anxious Mamma hovering nearby.

Dude fire! Is one thing but when you add some nice dry stuff with wind, youre going to have a bad time. Me n dad were cleaning, a field water drain. With fire cuz we thought it was the best way, well poured some gas in a long line, thinking it's probably gonna burn slowly. So we lit her up. Nothing crazy, until the good ol wind decides to through a fit. It got really hot and quickly spread. Now we were just cleaning one section of the water drain. It starts to spread towards a neighbors area which had some storage sheds near the bank of the drainage way. Luckily i don't trust fire so prior to the event, I watered down a section of about a 15 by 15ft. Fire is so unpredictable once you add fuel (dry stuff, on an uphill) and strong winds. Sure had me sweating don't know if it was from the heat or the nerves from seeing fire spread that quickly. Also gas is just super unpredictable don't even need a spark just thermal heat. Cuz I found an area that didn't light up, was going to light it up using a torch stick😂 I made. When boom like thunda lit on it's own. So I figured it was the heat from the previous fire. So yeah that's my story on fire and playing it safe well at least have some sort of a life line. Oh Did I mention it almost caught a power pole. Again this would not have happened if there was no wind. We done it in past and we just had slow burning fires that usually takes a propane torch. But personally I don't dink around with gasses too much. Man I have a lot stories about me doing dumb stuff with not knowing all the factors involved in those dumb events. Like the chain and finger story.🤣👍🙌

A. Phone timers do wonders to remind us about the tank.😉 B. Your cattle have ringworm, which is a fungus that is active around the perimeter of the spots. It's spread through contact and harbors in buildings for months, etc. You do have to be very persistent to eradicate this from your farm. Generally it outbreaks in young stock or weak animals. Sunshine seems to help kill or suppress the symptoms, but that's probably just due to the passage of time. Any stock leaving the place, that is infected, will likely transmit. It IS TRANSMISSIBLE TO HUMANS, BTW! Here's a link to a treatment article and general info links below. We fought this for years after bringing it in with some purebred Angus heifers. www.thatsfarming.com/news/ringworm www.dtnpf.com/agriculture/web/ag/livestock/article/2018/10/01/ringworm-hard-cycle-break www.angusbeefbulletin.com/extra/2017/11nov17/1117hn-ringworm.html#.XkgbaVNMGDY
