You were spot on about the analog feel. The record was produced by Jonathan Wilson (well known for using mostly analog gear, recording to tape etc.) Here's a snippet from wikipedia: "Pure Comedy was recorded in March 2016 at United Recording Studios in Los Angeles. Its basic tracking and vocals were recorded live, in no more than two takes each. It was mixed by Tillman, Wilson and sound engineer Trevor Spencer, and mastered by Bob Ludwig at Gateway Mastering Studios. Featured instruments include strings and horns. Bryars, along with additional contributors Nico Muhly and Thomas Bartlett, provided choral arrangements." And if that

One of my favorite albums of all time, but it's a pretty impossible listen for me now given the fairly recent uncovering of Mark's gross (and extremely credible) history of sexual misconduct toward all those women. I understand that there may be something to be said about separating art from the artist, but Mark is one artist who is inseparable form his art and his songwriting. We listen to him because we care about him and his stories, and because he tells us more than any other songwriter. There were no secrets with him, or so we thought. It's tragic to listen to Mark relay to us his major sexual milestones on Dogs, knowing now the dark places that story eventually leads.
