Personally I don't think the song is representative of despair, I get more so feelings of longing. Whether Guts knew it or not, he wanted a place to belong be it Gambino, the band of the hawk, his current party, or to be with Casca herself after all that's happened.
@PleasantLeech3 ай бұрын
I think their is elements of despair. It's very dark and sad but also very beautiful and comforting at the same time. I feel like it represents the struggle of Gut's life good and bad. So I think the part of the stoy you're reading when you listen to this can definitely change the main emotion you feel. It really is a great piece.

@@PleasantLeech @SpacemanLess I feel like you both have a point, but this just brings to mind his title as a “struggler”. I feel like that word is so representative of despair, longing, contemplation, and the desire to persevere despite feeling lost. It makes me wonder what word the original Japanese uses because “struggler” is such a perfect word for Guts and I like how many Berserk fans will encourage one another with that title- we’re all just trying to get through life’s trials

It’s a little corny, but I lived in my car for a couple years and during that time discovered Berserk, and I used to listen to this song when my mental was getting really bad and even sometimes in the gym lol, in the middle of the night when the demons attack. Even though he’s a fictional character there were a lot of parts about Guts’ character progression that resonated heavily with me, and there’s something about seeing someone who doesn’t handle their grief and rage very well that helps one who has some darkness themselves hold up a mirror. It’s kind of difficult to explain and it’s something you’ll see more if you keep reading, but I saw someone sum it up perfectly somewhere; Berserk disturbs the comfortable and comforts the disturbed. Miura was quite the masterful writer. edit, Also I binged the progression of your reactions all last night and am hoping you finish the series, its been great hearing your analysis and there’s so much more in store!

Wow this is a really heartfelt message and I hope things are better now than they were for you back then, I can’t definitely see how a character like guts can be comforting in that sense, I think as a woman Casca is written really well for women who have gone through similar experiences as her wether it be unrequited love or the horrors of the eclipse… it’s always so special to find that one character that speaks to you and your heart so I’m glad you found that in Guts 💗 So glad you’re enjoying our series and we hope you stick around, there is much more to come! 😊🙏🏼

I might change it back but I don't have any of the ost on this phone. Sounds cringe but I always say to people guts is a character so good that it makes us feel like we can get through anything, even though he doesnt exist. It just shows how good berserk really is. Can't really say the same about other manga/anime characters being life changing, maybe ippo and baki because they motivate me to workout more lol but that's not beating despair and being at peace with the world. I still need to finish vagabond but I always start again after reading some then doing other stuff lol. Ive heard that can also be life changing.

I feel like this song is perfect in that without sounding different its meaning can change depending on *how* you listen to it. Within deep pain the song sounds like desperate cries of despair. In lonliness it sounds like a plea for connection. In those moments of pause it feels like contemplating and dreaming. From a better place it feels like reflecting on the times you struggled, knowing where you are despite everything. Like ocean waves they can smoothly roll over our feet or crash into us and knock us over. We float atop the water but are surrounded by the inky black depths. This song is about any one thing Its about what makes us (guts) human.

I love the fact that Gut's theme is a mix of despair, hope and somber moments. That there is so much distilled pain and trauma held within this man but there exists something else- hope. That one day it'll all be better and I guess that's why we're all Strugglers in a sense.

Have him do another one once he gets to the Blacksmith Confession, once Guts resolves to go rescue Casca from the tower of conviction. Guts's theme really hits different at EVERY point in his character arc. An underlying loneliness and sadness yearning for *something* that he doesnt know if he can ever have.
@JimmyHxx2 ай бұрын
For me the theme always mirrored what Guts wants but can’t have. Peace and love. It’s such a tame and beautiful song that contradicts his whole personality but I think if Berserk ends(pls let it happen even when I’m 50 then) we will see a Guts that fits that song perfectly. A Guts that managed to let go of all his hate. A Guts that is finally at peace
@jaffarebellion292Ай бұрын
The real kicker is that Guts had all that; everything he ever wanted, for one perfect moment before it was all suddenly and violently ripped away. Guts and Casca's night by the waterfall was the only time up to that point where Guts could sleep without his sword, because in that moment, Casca was his sword. She provided him with the same comfort and security only his blade had in the past. How tragic then is it that her lifelong dream was to be Griffith's sword, and that wish was granted in the most horrific and twisted way imaginable? She was used as Griffith's sword, plunged straight into Guts' heart. For the love of Schnoz, why can't these two just find some damn happiness?

Guts is not truly the brutish berserker that people see him as. He is a lost soul and a truly intelligent and introspective man. He is definitely on par with Griffith in terms of intellect and philosophical understanding as shown by his decision to leave the band of hawk and the bonfire of dreams scene. He is man born of a lost world searching for peace and the family that was torn from him time and again, whether that be his dead mother, his upbringing with Gambino and his mercenaries, or finally the one where he felt he truly belonged, in the Band of the Hawk. His crusade against evil is everlasting because evil is a constant in life as is suffering. He has hopefully learnt though by now, through his love of Casca, Shierke, Farnese and Isidro that suffering is alleviated only by our bonds of love through others

This is a story that sticks with you no matter how much time passes, no matter what happens. Sometimes a good story can change the way you live your life and I think everyone who‘s read this Manga and took it to heart comes out better person or at least more compassionate than before for his or her fellow strugglers. Thank you for letting us be part of your journey, much love from germany and please don‘t let what happened in the Eclipse discourage you from continuing the story. There is a lot more pain and suffering to go through but in the end one will realize that it never really was about fulfilling your dream or living a perfect live. It was about enduring the impossible, becoming stronger through all the hardships, protecting what and who is important to you and truely believing that no matter how bad things get, you must fight and continue on your path. Fighting for whats right means the light within you will not be extinguished, the pain will come to an end & the best is yet to come.
