@Tommyvlogs246 жыл бұрын
I agree with his dad too but I'm not saying he's wrong. He's actually right. Our generation doesn't understand that the word nigga and nigger have the same meaning. But what he was saying is that its cool to say "wassup my nigga" to your friends but in reality its not because even if its ok with you, theres still people that get offended by it. So really he is wrong.

My fucking gosh it's his father his father wants to hear is son talk he's just explaining damn!
@tak8286 жыл бұрын
I agree it is rude to interrupt his dad but it’s a father and son relationship. The son is trying to get out ideas to the wise father to figure it out and the wise father already knows his views. The father contains the wisdom and the son is trying to find the truth. The father wants to hear what his son thinks and the son wants to show he knows what he’s talking about. It’s a maturity thing. Not saying the son is necessarily ‘immature’, but i hope u get the point.

Yes it is lmao a message in hip hop without a good song or beat is pretty much pointless. It’s how you convey it into a hip hop song that translates to people. Music shouldn’t be graded on how potent it’s political message is yeah that’s something to be considered and it’s part of the song, but you’re acting like the beat and hook aren’t worth acknowledging which is pretty disrespectful to No ID and Jay, every piece of the song and music video was specifically used to paint this picture, if your favorite part of the song is the message that’s fine but acting like it’s universally the most important thing just isn’t true. Illmatic has plenty of topical thought provoking shit, but you don’t hear people saying it’s the best rap album ever bc of the messaging, it’s the production and writing coming together. If you think messaging is the driving force behind good music then it doesn’t even seem like you should like hip hop more then any other genre. You could listen to the wall and read the lyrics along with it and get a long deep experience full of messages

Well he's still young. His father could have been the same way at his age. although some words do change their meaning through time and not just in English, but for that word to truthly change without evoking its history it will take a lot of time and social changes that might not happened in any near future. In fact originally it only meant black in latin, as in just the color itself with no direct relation to slavery or anything racist. I agree with his dad on stop using I belive it's better to just get rid of it to wait to see if some day its present meaning(s) is forgotten, unfortunately numerous efforts had been put to change or preserve words in societies around different languages, but history just proves people can't control languages thus words. it's only through social interaction that word gain or change meaning. case in point, nowdays no one uses the word gay to mean joyful, and who says that word to whom and when, changes it's meaning.

I think if you're causing your brother (or in this case your dad and his generation) pain through the use of a word you view as innocent, it should be enough to make you stop saying it! It may not be a big deal to a lot of people, but it's a very big deal to many others. I'm white so I've never had to deal with being called that, but I do feel pain for others when they are called it even in the non-chalant "hey man" kind of way. If it's a big deal to my black brothers then it's a big deal to me. Romans 14:13-23
@edwarde87036 жыл бұрын
I think it can be used as a term of endearment amongst black people, a way of reclaiming it, demeaning its original connotations but again it still does carry the weight of hatred for a lot of people also. And I don't think it probably will as an issue resolve itself. There's definitely as a black teenager, contexts and times where I've used it and it doesn't feel right or it does carry that negative weight and other times where I haven't felt that. I think it's unlikely that there will be a resolution of this as an issue, I think across generations and upbringings there needs to be an understanding to why people in those demographics feel that its use is appropriate or inappropriate

Your Dad comes from the generation who know the real weight of the "N" word, where it may have been aggressively shot at from different corners of society. The original annotation of the term is all that comes to mind to people like your father. People of his generation would have never wanted their children to be labled with the"N" word. The "N" word is not definitive of African American culture. They've fought so hard to break from it. Young black folk or anyone really using the word lightly only perpetuates the pain of a tough history.

In my irrelevant opinion I agree with EliteSniperTV. I think we see a generational gap in this video and quite frankly it is the next generation who makes tomorrow. I understand that Nick's dad comes from an era that gives the word great weight and meaning but very few people, if anyone, from the newer generations has the same kind of connection and relationship with the word as previous generations. Our generation never had to go through what Nick's dad's generation and generations before had to go through. For this reason I don't think the word will ever have the same bearing and weight on society as a whole as it did in history.
