Lil Wayne - Tha Carter III
/ tha-carter-iii
open.spotify.com/album/5BGzOp...
Tha Carter III is the sixth studio album by American rapper Lil Wayne, released on June 10, 2008, by Cash Money, Universal Motown & Young Money Entertainment. It follows a long string of mixtape releases and guest appearances on other hip hop and R&B artists' albums, helping to increase his exposure in the mainstream. The album features appearances from Jay-Z, T-Pain, Fabolous, Robin Thicke, Busta Rhymes, Juelz Santana, Babyface, Bobby V, and Kanye West, among others. It also features Static Major, who is credited posthumously following his death in February 2008.
Amid release delays and leaks, Tha Carter III became one of the most anticipated releases of 2008. It debuted at number one on the US Billboard 200, selling over 1 million copies in its first week which made it one of the fastest-selling albums in the US. It reached sales of 2.88 million copies by the end of 2008 and produced four singles that achieved chart success, including the international hit "Lollipop" and Billboard Hot 100 hits "A Milli", "Got Money", and "Mrs. Officer".
Upon its release, Tha Carter III received widespread acclaim from music critics and has since been regarded as one of Wayne's best albums. It earned Lil Wayne several accolades, including a spot on Rolling Stone's list of The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time. It was nominated for Album of the Year at the 2009 Grammy Awards and won for Best Rap Album, while "Lollipop" won Best Rap Song and "A Milli" won Best Rap Solo Performance. It has been certified 8× platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America.

I grew up in the hardcore/metal/punk scene and never listened to new hip hop and stayed with the dmx, dre, nas, biggy, and tupac I was used to. A girl I was dating at the time left this CD in my stereo after borrowing my car. Stayed on after the first track. Opened my eyes to the fact that I missed a lot of good shit post 2001.

This era is truly incredible. The fact that C3 got leaked and Wayne decided to scrap it and make a whole new album is insane (The original C3 is still really good imo). Maaaan, this album was THE album of 2008. Every time you turned on the radio, you were going to hear something from this album. Lollipop, Mr. Carter, Ms. Officer, Comfortable, Got Money, A Milli, Tie My Hands were all on heavy radio rotation in Chicago. And yeah, to answer your question about Got Money being a banger in the club, it totally was. I turned 21 in 2009 and it was STILL being played then. Edit: It's funny you guys bring up his cadence as well. Back then almost every rap artist that came out tried using that same flow that Wayne had here. Big Sean, Mac Miller, Childish Gambino, Diggy Simmons. Drake sounded just like Wayne during the "So Far Gone" era. But yeah, newer artists like Young Thug have mentioned that Wayne was one of his biggest influences if not the biggest.

Another great album. It would be cool to see reactions to Kendrick's earlier works like Section 80, Overly Dedicated and The Kendrick Lamar EP, cos he is also anong the artists that were influenced by Lil Wayne and it shows a lot in his early works.

As funny as the Pussy Monster reaction was, I wish you played Playing With Fire instead which was the original track 14. I think sample clearance messed it up after the release and it got replaced on most versions, but that song is so essential to this album for me, one of my favourites for sure

I know where I was at when I was listening to this. I was 8, my brother was 13 and we listened to this. I just smile every time I listen to this album. The saddened appreciative smile. But From rap, style, bars, impact, fashion, creativity, and longevity, Wayne is the greatest rapper.
