Just wanted to clarify that the influence on Point and Kill / Fear No Man was Nigerian not Jamaican. Simz's parents are Nigerian immigrants so these songs paid homage to that heritage. Distinct Fela Kuti influence.

It's interesting that your dad mentioned Wizard of Oz... The album has that childlike wonderment vibe with the interludes, very Alice in Wonderland-esque. She has another album titled "Stillness in Wonderland"

This was my favorite album of last year (The production is insane, especially when you consider this is some of the first credited work from the producer, who also happened to grow up with Little Simz during her childhood). Glad to see you guys reacting to it. I am seeing in real time your dad gaining new appreciation for music he wouldn't have gave a second thought about. This channel is on its way to blowing up.

Also forgot to add that this album only has 1 sample, which is also insane.

Check out the producer’s main work, with a group called Sault - they are outrageously great. A back catalogue without flaw. He, Inflo, also did a lot of production on Simz’ Grey Area, Cleo Sol’s “Mother” and Adele’s latest album. He’s so talented.

Respect for him bringing up the Black origins of a lot of Rock history. And Point & Kill is my favorite track! Obongjayar is Nigerian actually, your dad might be most familiar with reggae and Jamaican voices in music and thats why he thought Jamaica (plus yeah theres a lot of Jamaicans in the UK). but Point & Kill is Afrobeats and theres such good Afrobeats out there, my favorite albums in that genre are African Giant by Burna Boy and The Angel You Don’t Know by Amaarae. Obongjayar’s voice is so unique too I love the whole album, but Protect My Energy and How Did You Get Here are the tracks that had to grow on me. I thought Protect My Energy went on too long for having the same melody, but now i love it how it is. So glad you did the album and that he enjoyed it! And you pronounced my name right (which is rare for the last name) Little Simz album GREY Area is just as great as this imo

Just some info for Point and Kill, almost every black person in the UK are second or third generation immigrants. Little Simz parents are Nigerian so that's the sound you're hearing on that song. But you're also correct in that Jamaicans were some of the first black immigrants in the UK who were brought over from across the British empire post World War 2 to help "build" back the country that needed a workforce (particularly nurses). Jamaica is one of the biggest influences on modern British urban culture, style, music and slang.

Atrocity exhibition would be a great reaction in the near future I think. Even though it’s experimental (so ig it seems to be something less accessible?) it would be another great switch in rap styles which seems to be a common theme when considering how different TPAB - flower - even this album is. Other than how dark sonically & thematically the album is, & how frantic & high pitched Danny’s voice, I think it’s album that can be grasped fairly well on all sides.
