I love it, but its nothing like the sound that she built her career on - brooding bass, darker vocals, synths, and messy young relationships. Of course this would have mixed reception

This album is underrated and it's heavily criticized... for nothing. It's not Lorde's fault that fans create their own expectations of what THEY wanted to her. They wanted something like Melodrama, but Lorde wasn't with that mindset anymore, she grew, she changed. I LOVED this album, it helped me a lot during those hard time. The melodies are beautiful. Secrets from a Girl made me sobbbb, the Robyn part was so meaningful to me. Hold No Grudge is my favorite.

@@Nano_IV I think I’ve gotten a similar feeling with Lizzy McAlpine’s new album. It’s very different from her first album and some people don’t like it for that reason but the new album is objectively great

this is my favorite album EVER, lorde was SO ahead of her time with it. i love that it totally smashed everyone's expectations after melodrama. she needed this to heal and she made this for herself, her friends and her family. she's truly an amazing songwriter! the organic, yet complex, production of this album makes it so unique. thank you for reacting to it! great video

It's really funny that vocals on this album remind you of the Phoebe Bridgers album... because she's actually there! Both Phoebe Bridgers and Clairo do backing vocals all over the album through several tracks, unfortunately the mix of the album doesn't let you hear them much but they are definitely there! At the same time Solar Power was recorded, Jack was also working with Clairo on her album Sling, it's a gorgeous album and you guys should definitely check it out! Lorde does backing vocals on Blouse over on that album.

Secrets from a girl (who’s seen it all) quite literally saved my life. I had just recently lost my father, and as a teen, isolated and still in midst of the pandemic, everything felt pointless and overwhelming. The song gave me hope even just for the duration of the song. That was more than enough to give me just a little more strength to just continue on for another day. Lovely reaction as always, thanks for what you guys do!

what i think is people didn’t expect growth from lorde. they wanted her to stay the same and do the same but in reality all of her albums have been about the specific time period in her life and the music reflected that. I think this album seriously perfected how to make someone FEEL the ambience. You can feel the sun on your skin, you can smell the salt in the air from the sea breeze, you can just feel the warmth of summer from this album. Pure Heroine was about an angst teenager not knowing where she belonged in this world, seeing things around her take shape, and come into a very rough time in her years. That time is horrible for any teenager. Melodrama is truly just what it says, melodramatic. Its an over-exaggerated concept album about a singular night from the start to the end of a party with every single trial and tribulation you could think of. It perfectly encapsulates young adulthood. Everything is happening so fast it feels like it’s just one night, you see the world, you find people to love and break your heart, you enjoy hedonistic desires, you fuck up sometimes, and you don’t know where you belong but you’re having a good time finding it, but what the fuck are perfect places anyways? Solar Power is that young adult finally stepping back and looking at the light after that entire night of melodramatic happenings and taking a very deep breath and a sigh of relief knowing things may or may not get better, but time will keep going on and we will find out how to movie through life however we can. The sun will show us the path, event though we may overthink things during daily tasks, or dwell on things that the past generations left us to clean up, but in the end we ourselves are going to have to just move through it all and find out what makes us, us.

I’m so glad you enjoyed this album! It got such a mixed reception when it came out, even from people who loved her first two albums because the change in direction musically and even content-wise from her was so stark. But as a girl just a couple years younger than her, I really feel like each of her albums defines a specific period of my life . Pure Heroine - high school teen social dynamics, Melodrama - college, partying and first heartbreak, and Solar Power - entering adulthood during the pandemic. Got a chance to see her live too in LA in 2022 and it was really magical!

This message from genius might help you understand what Fallen Fruit is about: Here, Lorde addresses the climate crisis, criticizing previous generations with an almost whimsical sense of wonder over unsettling acoustic folk, for not working to solve a problem that may now be too late to fix. By using several “Book of Genesis” imagery. Lorde establishes a connection between humanity’s “sin”, often depicted by western cultures as the forbidden fruit, or an apple, and the human-caused destruction of the environment, as if disregarding environmental concerns will be punished by God as direct disobedience of His command.

i loved your reaction !!! you guys totally get the feel of the album, it IS an escape of sorts. the comparison to the reception of bruce springsteen album after 9.11(another historical disaster) is interesting because solar power was made in a tumultuous time as well. she said in an. IG live that this album is a more "transitional" album, & it's nice you guys acknowledged its subtlety. it's a rumination about life, her family, the things she loves, past current & future, identity, exploring her real place in the world & if her celebrity has any real meaning at all. can't wait to see more of you guys ! 💛
