a cool detail to moon song: when phoebe says "and if i could give you the moon, i would give you the moon" shes talking about multiple things here, but one of them being giving this person all of herself. the name phoebe is actually a latinized form of the greek name "phoibe". which is the name of a greek titan associated with the moon. its such a layered lyric its so cool

please PLEASE do stranger in the alps and boy genius. graceland too is my favourite song ever, it makes me so emotional because after all the hardships they’ve been through in their lives, being sat with their friend on mdma eating saltines looking at the moon was enough to make them realise there are things and people to live for. even if it’s just a tiny second of happiness. the song is also rumoured to be about boy genius bandmate, julien.

Finally!!! Yes, please do Boygenius, The Record! Phoebe said in an interview that Graceland Too is a Boygenius song. I've seen Phoebe live at the Greek in LA after this album came out. I believe the reference in Halloween is about Brian Stowe, a Giants fan, who was horribly beaten outside of Dodger stadium. I saw Billie as well, and she brought Phoebe out for Motion sickness...Billie also brought out Boygenius in London to sing When the Partys Over. Boygenius is a supergroup, and that isn't saying enough... we saw them twice this year (my husband and I who are 50 yo). Listen to their EP, The Record, and the Rest. Also, Phoebes Stranger in the Alps. Sorry, but I'm not sorry for a disjointed yet genuine comment. Better Oblivion Community Center is great too, another band Phoebe is in.

if you like tragic heartbreaking albums, you should def listen to Preachers Daughter by Ethel Cain. It is a concept album and tells a horribly tragic story if you listen front to back. Lots of lore, but most of the genius annotations are direct quotes and explanations from the artist herself. Mindblowing production and storytelling. Highly reccomend it.

this is the only phoebe bridgers album i’ve given a proper chance and it’s probably one of my most listened to albums ever i just keep coming back to it - it’s one of those you just want to listen to with good headphones in a dark room and just experience it but then also you want to run in the rain with this as the soundtrack (have done - recommend) because it’s just incredible. you should really look into the lyrics and the subject/meaning of kyoto and chinese satellite - a couple of my personal favourites that REALLY hit harder once you get it. and i know the end truly is just one of the best songs i’ve ever heard i’m glad you agreed! always love when you guys react to one of my favourite albums it’s so much fun and i love that you loved this one!! would love to hear your thoughts after a few listens and how much more you appreciate it!!

Checking out boygenius' "the record" definitely is worth it! But heads up, "Letter To An Old Poet" hits harder if you listen to "Me and My Dog" (a song from their first EP) first. Because both are connected musically and lyrically. Also, "the rest" is an Ep that they put out after dropping "the record", and it has some AMAZING four songs that should have been in the album, but were cut/ not included in the end. "Black Hole" is a trip.

This album is a 10/10 for me I love it so much. Since you wanted some context for her as a person, here’s what I know: 1) her childhood home burned down (Garden Song) 2) most of the references are to LA, where she’s from (eastside, fan killed by the stadium, roses on flatbeds) 3) she’s a big fan of Elliot Smith (who Punisher is partially about) I definitely think you should listen to Boygenius! They have an EP from 2018 and The Record which came out last year. I won’t say too much about those other than The Record is another 10/10 for me and that the majority of its songs are about friendship 😭
