Fun Fact to add to the coffin thing in "So it goes" the last song on Swimming, the final outro Mac wanted it to sound like what ascending to heaven would sound like.

This video legit has made me cry a few times. It's so beautiful and reminds me of all the people I've lost along the way. My mom, my dad, one of my uncles, all of my grandparents, aunt, 2 friends.... It's just tough sometimes to carry all that with you. I always thought I'd be prepared to the death of others and I am in the moment, but it soon takes over. Especially some nights, I just smoke my weed and stare out to the sky... I'm not even religious or anything but man, I wish they could hear us and that I knew... I just don't believe in an afterlife, only that our energy goes back to the Earth and feeds into other things in nature. Which I guess is beautiful but I wish there was an afterlife, a heaven and hell, something... But sadly I believe we die and move on. Nothing is permanent in this universe.

When he was "stuck in oblivion" he was as good as dead in the coffin which symbolized his self destruction. But rising out of the mound symbolized that he was choosing to live instead.

Because of how he was taking his music in a new direction with Swimming/Circles - I believe the video was symbolizing the killing / death of his old self by being buried in the coffin and when he breaks out of it it's like he's rebirthing himself and trying to take his life into his own hands. But in the end, it doesn't matter what we do. The world is still gonna be messed up (the explosion). but he's still alright when he's in "oblivion" because he did what made him happy, like smoking cigarettes or doing drugs. RIP to Mac forever. If you have plans of showing your dad another video from Mac, can you show him the video for Inertia? That one really shows him in his natural habitat

Looking back I don't think it's too crazy to see Mac visualize dying. As someone who has dealt with addiction (not as bad as others tbf) and being depressed, you start having a NON LOGICAL view of the world. You tend to be pessimistic. And I think Mac was genuinely in that space, judging from his lyrics and interviews. He was trying to stay positive while also facing his demons at night when drugged out. Wasn't it fentanyl that killed him as he didn't realize that could even be a thing. His dealer fucked up basically. Because I remember his friends scrambling to clean everything up BEFORE calling an ambulance. So he had no chance. They let him die. Either way, he OD'd which is sad but it's so easy to fall into that hole. Once things happen in life, you lose hope, you start trying things, hanging out with the wrong people, it's so easy to say "Ah fuck it. One time won't hurt"
@jdctho74533 ай бұрын
I'm a little late on this but he definitely knew fentanyl was a thing and knew he was playing with fire. In his song "Someone Like You" in 2013 he says: "Love me, love me That fentanyl, it numb me. Beautiful, it get ugly. Turn you into a junkie." And he made the mixtape "Faces" basically during a time where he was almost 100% positive he was going to OD soon. So he made that album as sort of a final send off before it happened.

In the way i had thought the video was broken down is him being trapped and instead of facing it he just decides to treat himself as he knows his time will come to a end is what i picked up is when he wrote the meaning in the coffin later on in the video when he was breaking through it it started to look like a attempt to break through those habits as a attempt to overcome them but in the next seen it is then lead on to the ash or dirt hill showing as soon as you get over something it can all come crashing back down again but the way he gets over these times in his lif ewas to say he had all the time in the world when he did know it was going to come to end will goes back to the meaning in the coffin. This is just how I felt the video was describing it to me let me know if yall feel any diffrent and if so explain I would like to hear other people's opinion on the music video.

Crazy to think about the explosion of him after getting out of the coffin seems to symbolize how his life went. He knew he was stuck in addiction and fought hard to get better, which many felt he was doing better during the Swimming release. Then soon after, he got served the fake pills that took him.

oblivion : the fact or condition of not remembering : a state marked by lack of awareness or consciousness I think that Mac Miller is alluding to the cycle of life and death and how we're unaware of our previous deaths. There's always a force to keep us in "a" reality where you don't die. Mac might've died here, but he open his eyes elsewhere.....all praise the infinite and eternal most high! It also sounds as if he was referring to astral levitation, so he probably was a frequent astral traveler. He would be a very wise man today.
