Based on subscriber feedback, I tried to upload this with only a few edits in each song, but YT blocked it completely. So I had to edit like this to get it visible.

Thank you so much for making this and sharing it. My dad died when I was 17. I’ve been at peace with my loss for awhile, but when I first heard this album, I desperately wished I could share it with my dad. Seeing you guys do what I wish I could really helps me. 💜

I always thought of New Perspective as him mocking this person from his own insecurity. Like he watched a friend go to a University but he stayed at a local community college. “And drag you back down” I think is a way to express how he feels beneath them and how he wishes to be on equal footing and one way to do that would be to drag them back down. I like this perspective(pun intended) because I love it when an artist will take something that is ugly and remind us how human it is. It’s something I haven’t found a lot in modern music

“You didn’t put those bones in the ground” may be a reference to Come Over “..there’s a coffin buried under the garden? Was there when we got here, will be there when we leave.”
@laramorrison5973
@laramorrison5973 3 ай бұрын
@@Sweetest-Pea the coffin in Come Over is unrelated, it is to signify that we are all insignificant and all die. "Didn't put those bones in the ground" in Orange Juice is referencing the fatal car crash at the heart of the song and how his friend is racked with guilt but it was just an accident and that HE didn't kill them.

Thank you for giving Come Over the respect it deserves! It's such a simple but heartbreaking plea from a younger version of Noah and I think people overlook it because it's not the most sonically captivating song on the album

Thank you for the Bob Dylan comp. Ever since I heard the song Stick Season for the first time, I thought "he's Bob Dylan, but enuncuatea". Also he sounds like a cross between Dave Matthew's and Ed Sheeran on All My Love.

everywhere everything is such a sad song. he's looking back on this relationship and saying he would love you til he decomposes...all the while they weren't paying attention to the warning signs. they won't survive the horror movie, the sun was collapsing, the pages were dogeared but they didnt go back and fix the problems.

I think what was really interesting to me about this album is he's writing from difference people's perspectives, like Orange Juice isn't about him but he captures the relationship between family members or friends who don't quite get each other's struggle but still love and care for them so much. And then also draws on his own feelings about topics or struggles he's been through to create and relate to those stories more. I also think Orange Juice in particular is about someone who started drinking and going on a downward spiral *because* of the crash, not the crash being a drunk driving accident, and then realized they had to leave to get better because being in the place it happened was just too much, and then their loved ones are like but it wasn't your fault? like they just don't get the impact it had on that person. Noah looooves writing stories, taking a feeling or a moment and turning it into a fully fleshed out narrative and he's so good at it. To add some personal context: He's been in a relationship with and is currently engaged to his HS sweetheart. Whether they've had breaks or trouble idk but I think it just really highlights how good he is at what he does. As well as the fact that he's struggled with severe mental health issues since childhood and and addiction and really taps into those deep feelings. Sorry for the essay haha this album just absolutely floored me when I first heard it!! Anyways I really appreciate the comments throughout this and especially in growing sideways! It's a song I definitely can't listen to without some tears

My sister got me into Noah's music a few months ago. In the beginning i basically only listened to the most known songs but after my sister and i went to one of his shows in february i started diving deeper into his discography. It is hard to pick a favourite since it also depends on my mood but growing sideways is one of the ones that hit me the most. I also love forever, you're gonna go far and view between villages. Also dial drunk, everywhere everything and she calls me back are especially fun live. Besides the awesome performance Noah was also very funny when he was talking between songs. He seems like a very cool guy. I just found your channel and i will for sure be watching more of your videos. Keep it up😊

eeeee ok! noah kahan nerd here! ive seen him in concert 3 times! he has 3 albums and an ep, plus the few extra versions of stick season. noah wrote stick season in his childhood home, mostly during covid. the songs draw on the relationships of his hometown that made him the person he is! and fun fact, w new perspectives he is kinda wanting to drag the person back down in the typical sense of the word. on his tours, he describes it as being about that feeling when someone you knew is doing better than you are and going places and the kinda ugly feeling you can have of wanting them to come back, even if it might not be good for them, because it would be easier for you. his first album, busyhead(came out in 2019), is about how he felt after his super early soundcloud stuff started getting him recognition, so its got songs about how hard it was to be a musician in a big city and just an adult in general. one song from the album is carlo's song, which is about a friend's unexpected death, and he plays it on his tours in memory of him. his second album, I was/ I am is a retrospective about how fame has transformed his life, relationships and worldview, for better or worse. one song from the album is godlight, which is about how he thinks a younger version of noah would react to the person he is now. in 2020, he released the cape elizabeth ep, which is possibly my favorite group of five songs ever. it was recorded over the course of a week in a friends home studio after he moved from nyc back to his childhood home because of covid. it's supposed to embody the weird emotions of being back in a place that makes you feel like a kid all over again. i literally cannot pick a song to highlight bc every song is. so important to me. ANYWAY yeah i love noah kahan all of his songs draw on life experiences but he also isnt afraid to write about hopes or dreams or blend past experiences with those (as in forever)

Such a great video. Some of your questions ... I have seen others compare Noah's writing to Dylan, mostly in the way of storytelling. Paul Simon and folk music were huge influences for Kahan, so storytelling is a big part of his music. The vocals are mostly Noah, with some background from his producer, Gabe Simon. When he's touring, his band members all sing and back him up on stage beautifully. Noah's writing often paints himself as a villain (dial drunk on the deluxe album is a prime example), and I think he brings out some of that complication in Orange Juice. Even with new perspective, he jokes at concerts that if someone is happier than you, pull them down with you. Looking forward to the rest!

In New Perspective the paper bags part is about how people go wherever but he can’t because his paper bag I full of “receipts”. Memories, trauma, depression and an inability to move forward with his life because he’s so stuck.

If you do decide to do that reaction I would suggest going into it absolutely cold and just experiencing it for what it is. Anyway thanks for the beautiful reaction to this incredible artist!

The way I interpret this song a new perspective is that he is sort of bitter because she has left him behind in their small town and she was able to get out and getting all of this new perspective yet he’s still stuck there and feels abandoned. I think him talking about how they got a Target is self deprecating in the way that he knows she will not be excited by target because she has seen bigger and better things out in the world passed their small town.

Him hyping up Bob Dylan and then saying he doesn’t care to listen to him is so funny lmao I’m glad he can at least appreciate the art even if he can’t appreciate the voice. Hadn’t thought to compare kahan to Dylan but I definitely see the similarities now
@MusicDadReacts
@MusicDadReacts 3 ай бұрын
With music being subjective, I really try to find the "art" or the "talent" in music that I don't really care for so I can always try to be positive when others tell me what they like. Dylan is one of those artists that I don't like to listen to, but I can totally respect his talent and why he's a big deal that people still talk about.
@Marina-cq2yt
@Marina-cq2yt 3 ай бұрын
So with new perspectives, I don't think it's so much that he loves his small town, he's just envious that this person that he once knew made it out and left and now he's envious and trying to convince himself (and her) that this town ain't so bad. But really, he wants nothing more than to be brave anough to leave; like all those paper bags he knew thay drifts wherever the wind blows, but he can't, because his bag is full of reciets(his history makes him stay, it's too heavy to leave).

Okay so this shows how obsessive of a Noah Kahan fan I am but if you look at the phone number in "she calls me back" and you look up the most common zip code in Vermont you can make the first three numbers into that zip code by inserting a digit and make a number you could call. I wouldn't because dont harass people but it does burn at my curiosity.
