Hey Daddy Dave. I use a Gearwrench rachet and socket set to clear to get pin out. Works very well. Pretty handy on long winded smaller nuts too. Center is open so bolt runs through it.

You can also torch out the big center pin and just replace it. Never heard of your method but I am from Michigan so we spend a lot of time with a torch either cutting or heating rusted bolts or parts.

I've done a few. Ran into having to add a little more shims behind the carrier bearing races to get a little more pre load in the bearings. Sometimes between new bearings and new carrier, the overall width from bearing race to bearing race can change a tad due to tolerance stack up.

I have that same Yukon Dura Grip in my 97 with 3.90’s. Been in the truck 10 years. Somehow I broke the pin this last Sunday at the track. Ruined the carrier and the gear set. Piece of the pin wedged in to the gear set. Locked up the rear tires on the way back to the pits. No idea how I broke the pin. 5000 pound truck, around 400 to the tire on a 275 radial.

Very detailed and descriptive on how to do this I appreciate that dave. I've done one with the floating axles on a Ford and they may call it a floating rear end whatever it's easy to take the axles out you can do it without getting into the rear pumpkin. We had to change the kingpin it was a four-wheel drive or the pinion I guess is what you call it it was a four wheel drive and a vehicle was in reverse a lot and there was a few of the teeth on both gears on the pinion we're totally gone and many of them were worn real bad to allowing does to a truck I guess LOL thank you though I picked up a couple tips I appreciate it

A couple of things jumped out at me. Most 8.5 ten bolts I've done have about .030ish shim in them, and you had to add an additional .030. that seems quite unusual. Second I hope you didn't actually reuse the old crush sleeve. Otherwise great video.

Than through his magical video editing @ 10:37 it's NOW on the right way....lol.........NOT using chalk or marking compound, OR setting the pinion bearing preload correctly.....This guy's a clown & he's more about video editing than could EVER be any sort of "REAL" and technical mechanic.......
