I believe that by technicality, Stalker and his acolytes could potentially be similar to Umbra. What is known about Stalker (and his followers) is that he was an under-guardian whose body was mangled during the time of the Orokin-Sentient war. I originally believed that stalker’s mind was sealed in a warframe due to info from Titania’s quest. Now, I believe it is possible his mangled body, along with the bodies of his comrades (who later become his acolytes) were used to create the forms they now have. It would also make since as they describe not all subjects being “perfect” in the way they turned out. Additionally, one of the failed subjects shown in the ventruvian (or however you spell it) reminded me of stalker via the head deformation. In lore, about the time the main conflict with the sentients ended (about the same time Stalker became who he is now), he stated that he did not trust the Tenno. Maybe Ballas had a hand in their creation and sowed the seeds of doubt in regards to the tenno. Now, did he actually know who/what they are? Perhaps not. Perhaps he was on the equivalent of the front lines and never saw them asides from the warframes that were controlled by them. This could explain why he hesitates and seems to reevaluate what he is doing in the Second Dream when he gazes upon our tenno, a mere child too weak to even walk. All that aside, as for other umbra frames, I could see a Rhino Umbra given the Rhino Prime Codex which describes a rhino (type unknown) going on an anger fueled rampage before turning docile as it neared the holding chambers of the tenno. Perhaps it was then a tenno had mentally reached out to them, to sooth their anger and frustration.

You know those codex entries are not necessarily related to the frame in question, take the Ember Prime, it speak about the Orokin's judgement on Margulis, so the Rhino Prime codex entry could just be about an infested beast. Rhino Prime's entry specifically describes the "beast" using abilities that sounds a lot like Iron Skin and other Rhino abilities. Its definitely Rhino, or at least an early form of it.

Hidden Desire My theory about the stalker is kinda old, it originated from the silver grove quest, if I remember well in the quest we discover that an orokin (titania's creator) had experienced a transference with her frame, so my guess is that the stalker was an orokin who learnt how to do transference with one frame, and we do not know how long the tenno were sleeping so he could have plenty of time to master the transference. Again this theory is old and im not sure if the Second Dream doesn't invalidate it.

Rhino's description depicts him as an uncontrollable somewhat sentient machine of pure anger as it brutally murders two scientists. That's sound way to familiar to the feral nature of excalibur umbra for it not to be a hint towards a Rhino Umbra.

I'm pretty sure we'll be definitely getting some range of Umbra frames (probably not all of the current WFs). I mean, try fighting lvl 100 sentients without any invincibility/invisibility. You're most likely going to get one shotted or just take 15 minutes to kill a horde with a Tigris Prime/Opticor. I don't think they'll add too many operator gimmicks that will destroy sentients easily at this time. As of now, a CC or Tank frame would really help out. Maybe a frame whose skill can also increase Sentient/Tau resistance temporarily (kinda like Trinity's Bless). That way, we have an okay-ish damage dealer (ExcalUmbra) and a great CC/Tank.

You know what I just realized? In the operator's room, we see four black circles in front of the operator, which look like they seal something underneath. What if each one is for a umbra frame, where you can put it up for display and see the lore behind them? it makes sense one could be for each of the first frames, Excalibur, mag, volt, and loki. perhaps there was 9 test, but these four were the ones who passed? Even Ordis says during scanning Umbra parts on Earth they are older than everything you have in arsenal. Umbra was first, because he was made from human, not like other frames from blueprints. Primes were first, if you compare them do regular Warframes.

mrvodko not everyone necessarily has a prime in their arsenal. The Dax isn't dying, he's been purposely infected with the technocyte virus by Ballas for finding out about his traitorous actions. He was GOING to have an operator (as said by Ballas himself) and he went crazy, most likely because Ballas tortured him, and he was locked up in a cell on Lua. I don't think all Umbras will be "crazy" - take this one as an individual case as he was being specifically tortured by Ballas. But again, until an actual retcon comes out there is more evidence that Primes were first - they were the first supersoldiers clad in gold who... were driven mad by the infestation.

Umbra warframes are actual beings infected with the infestation and bred to be the ultimate super soldiers. As ballas said, the umbra warframes were uncontrollable until the tenno found them. And like if the primes were created before the umbras who was around to control them? And your argument about "not everybody has primes in their arsenal" is complete bs. In order to start the sacrifice you have to have completed so many other quests that have other requirements. I would think if all the 8 other subjects survived, these would be the frames: Ash, Ember, Loki, Mag, Rhino, Trinity, Volt, and finally Stalker. All frames listed including Excalibur came with the original launch of Warframe, but that is only 8. I would love to see Excalibur Umbra being a one of a kind WF who might be the part of future storylines as an active character beside our operator. At the moment he feels like a completely different WF.

@Michael Locey, The problem is, with the next location being the sentient home system (Tau system, I think), We need Warframes, that can directly fight sentients with counter abilities. I understand the power of building, but Excal U's #2 removes resistances. Much like the operator void blast, but without the risk you your operator. Also the sentience makes for a two man team effectively doubling the power of the teams going into the battle. Don't get me wrong, we got some strong frames, but the coming challenges will demand an evolution. Besides, if all we got was standard and primed warframes, the game would stagnate. Personally i want to see Rhino, Valkyr and Inaros umbras

A lot of people say that DE might make more umbras. I however feel differently about it. I say this because how will they sell Prime Access. It wouldn't make any sense to buy a prime access if the umbra version will be better. Like look at Excalibur Prime. People already are saying Umbra is a bit better than his original and Prime version. The only way I can see them adding umbras is to also include them in the prime access. But this still defeats the purpose to why invest into a prime if the umbra is going to be better. Personally, I think DE is not releasing any other umbras. But who knows. Maybe they already have this planned.

Havent seen anyone throw it out there, but Ivara Umbra. The Shiajati already has the hidden invis passive, and Shade can compliment her usual invis standings. But if you give Ivara sentience, you have a potentially invisible guardian at all times. Even if they prohibit Prowl, theres a chance she can still work the field with a hushed Lanka or something.

Umbra frames will come from the Vanilla frames that launched with the game and Frost. DE will follow the same release order according to Primes so Frost Umbra will likely be next. Subject 9 could also indicate the number of Umbras out there so we could only get 9 total.

I think it'll be Mirage since she was an absolute Sentient killer. She'll probably come with sacrificial primary or secondary mods. Also because she clearly had her own character, suiting the roughe frame.

Nyx Umbra would probably be next if you're following the pattern, it wouldn't make sense if the next Umbra were Equinox or Valkyr.

I'm of two mintes. I kinda want the nex.t Umbra to be a frame so dangerous not even the Orokin could clone it out of fear, or I want an Umbra with a _really_ creepy theme. Maybe Nekros, Nyx or Loki - on that specialised in screwing with the mind

Either Rhino Umbra or Chroma Umbra. Or... what if putting in an Umbra polarity on an existing frame awakens that frame and turns it into an Umbra?

If you look at the Codex for Rhino he was most likely originally probably a Umbra Rhino because my take on this last quest is that Umbra's were the original Warframes. So if they are going to make more Umbras the next one should be Rhino.

We start with the newest frames(this is all my opinion) which are based on the ancient Primes, later on we find relics and rebuild the Primes(the first "real" warframes) and now we learn that there were Umbra frames, the real real first frames witch on their point the Primes are based on, and they are considered failures, because of the fact they still have memories and are partly conscious(not fully empty vessels). I think we will find more of them and learn how they used soldiers to make frames, and how the first experiments gone wrong having a broken minded super soldiers.

Umbra warframes feel like they are prototypes while the primes are the finished product. I kinda hope that with umbra frames we can convert normal warframes with the Helminth in order to bring out its "Shadow" and then hunt down the frame in the system and capture it much like how we had to capture Excalibur.

umbra are made to kill sentients , as xenova said , a tigris prime/opticor wouldn't be enough to kill a lvl 100 sentient , you'll need a tool for that when the tau system comes.

I think mag should be the next umbra story wise since she's a beginner frame, and the first Female prime and all. Seems fair.
