Yep thats what it looks like a spindle moulder cutter block in a track saw! This isn't a hack, and I wouldn't advise you trying to achieve this!
Basically this is the HK85 saw, with the groove cutter block from Festool do dado cut, rabbet cut, housing joint and rebate cuts.
As I've been asked about it a lot I thought I'd give you guys a run through...
I hope you enjoy the video and as always I'm happy to answer any questions.

Nice, makes perfect sense for rabbets 🐰🐇. Makes it so easy. I had a tough time with 19mm router bit on my 1/2" router, and the rebate was a bit loose (nothing that glue and saw dust could fix though, but still annoying)
@HewAndAwe
@HewAndAwe 3 жыл бұрын
I had nothing but a hard time with a router and bits even with cabinet grade birch, drove me nuts! The only way I managed was using a smaller cutter like 16mm then say if its a shelf going into a housing joint was to take the shelf part and take off a couple/few mm on the table saw using the blade like a dado stack making the thickness of the self 16mm and match the depth of the housing joint if that makes sense? A ton more work though... The other thing with a bloody router the cut may not even cut straight, twin blade/flute cutters really suck for that, twin spiral upcut or downcut cutters are much better but silly money!
@HewAndAwe
@HewAndAwe 3 жыл бұрын
I should add if you look into spiral router cutters, the upcut and downcut depends on how its used, hand held or router table its to do with how the cutter gets rid of the waste.👍
@SujMenon
@SujMenon 3 жыл бұрын
@@HewAndAwe yes, valid points there. I used the older twin flute cutters, not the upcut/downcut spiral ones. Its hard to justify the spiral bits cost for me, when the bits itself costs more than my cheap routers, Lol 😆

What an awesome bit of kit. Uk plywood is terrible and way undersized. I use an 11/16 router bit to cut housing for 18mm ply. It equates to 17.5 mm which is the perfect fit for wbp ply the local merchant supply. I'd prefer one of them dado heads mind.

That’s exactly why I bought it, one day it’s 17mm thick the next it’s 17.5mm thick or 18 or… 🤦🏻‍♂️ someone needs to come up with a solution to the ply issue, FE doesn’t cut it warps like B&Q too.

I've never had the pleasure of a dado stack in a table saw, difficult to get table saws with a big enough arbor in the UK. Do they come with shims like a 0.5mm?
@forbol
@forbol 3 жыл бұрын
@@HewAndAwe Yup. The set I currently have (Amana) has two blades and 6 chippers (three different sized chippers). Its capacity goes from 1/8" - 29/32". With the blades alone, it will adjust in 1/32" increments. With the shims you can go as small as .002" increments. I wanted to buy the Forrest set but couldn't afford it but I'm real happy with the Amana set. All the the Dado stacks I've used through the years come with shims but even when you lose them I've used various types of paper. My set fits 5/8" arbor but the set comes in 1" as well. What size is your table saw arbor? Note: sorry about all the inch references. US should switch to metric, it's all the damn conversion back and forth that drives you crazy.
@HewAndAwe
@HewAndAwe 3 жыл бұрын
@@forbol Oh bloody tiny! I can barely get my hands in through the throat plate, like the damn thing was made for a fucking leprechaun! If I was making cabinets I'd upgrade to a cabinet saw either a US version/type or the types used in europe taking up way more space though, thats the thing though I just need a very accurate jobsite saw cause of space at the mo. Oh no worries on the metric imperial thing, I grew up with mm, inches and some bell end talking in cm. But man it would be good if we could all just be on the same page - I get that mm is defo better but weight measurements works better in lbs. Saying that I went to a fabricator with a drawing, he told me to come back with imperial measurements, needless to say he didn't get the work from me. Just an FYI, its been bugging me for ages why messages are a mess on youtube and Im not seeing them all, seems if someone swears I have to dig deep to find the message and I only know you replied cause at the time I had Chrome open and a notification came on the screen, otherwise I would have no idea! So if I seem rude and dont reply its just cause I dont know about the message - its BS really and pisses me off, all be it I tell youtube my vids are not made for kids we all still have to talk like fairies!
