You should look into acoustic treatments in your room. I can tell that it has a lot of echoes from the video.

Great job! I built the screen for my first HT back in 2008 and it went pretty well but I ended up just buying a screen for my current build. I had purchased material from Carl's Place but when I unrolled it, it had a mammatus cloud look to large areas of the center. This would not come out by ironing or using a hair dryer so the material was useless. Because it had been several months since I purchased it, Carl's would not replace it. I ended up buying a Stewart screen and in discussions with them, they believed Carl's was correct and that leaving it rolled up too long was the cause. Because of this, when the Stewart screen arrived, I took time off work to get it unrolled, assembled, and installed the day it arrived. It was quite a bit more expensive than a DIY screen but it does look good and was easy to assemble and install.

For braces, how did u manage that they show behind the screen especially while viewing.

Did you at any time consider using screen paint for your wall rather than creating the frame and using the screen material? I've seen some who do that and still use the felt tape for the edges.

Hi, what projector did you use for your screen ?. I’m looking for a projector that can fill a screen of that size.

I haven't started mine yet... but its close to 189 diagonal (but mine is a 2.35:1 ratio carls material & not 16:9) and I was really wondering whether i can use a 2x4. but you guys proved the idea of using 2x4 is worth the try and gonna work for sure. I was soo worried abt the wood joints (you guys achieved by simple lap joint). hmm.. appreciate if you folks can share the granular details personally.... stupendous..
@DadandSonDIY
@DadandSonDIY 3 жыл бұрын
2x4s should definitely still work for that size. Most of the details were covered in the video. To make sure the screen is flat, you'll probably also want to mill all your boards as we did, or purchase some nicer wood (2x4s really suck right now, at least in our area). Also, if we were to do the project over again, we might choose to use entirely half-lap joints instead of pocket holes for the corners, as those joints introduced some flex, but once the screen is hung it's really not an issue. Thanks for watching!

Do you need to have the felt tape, or is it just to make the screen look more professional? Just wondering because I am planning on making a projector screen. Thank you!
@DadandSonDIY
@DadandSonDIY 3 жыл бұрын
The felt tape helps make the screen look more professional, but more importantly, it provides a black border for your projection to spill onto slightly, leaving a little room for error while aligning your projection onto the screen.

Can you post your cut dimensions? For a 172” diagonal screen what was your height and width? How big was your bezel?
@schr4nz
@schr4nz 8 ай бұрын
172" diagonal can be calculated, the most general ratio for widescreen viewing is 16:9. If you know Pythagoras' theorem you know that the triangle is 3,4,5, or in this case 9 (3^2), 16 (4^2), 25 (5^2). Easiest way is take 172, divide it by 5, times it by 4, that's the length. For the height, take 172, divide by 5, times by 3 and you get your rough dimensions for the screen

@@rolturbo If you want a grid specifically, just look up "projector grid image" on google and project it onto your screen. Or you could play a movie, to see where you are projecting.

How did you do the black border tape. I have my frame made and its near perfect flat and is perfect square. Gained like 2 levels of woodworking. But I am puzzeled on how to do tape dead on straight as someone who cant draw a straight line. I am aiming for 1in border could live with 2. Need ideas please 🙏

It’s actually not too hand, you can easily peel and readjust as needed. They way I found it easier is to do in 16-18” long increment and eyeball it from the edge.

Dearest little Wife of my heart! If only I had a letter from you, everything would be all right… Dearest, I have no doubt that I shall get something going here, but it won’t be easy as you and some of our friends think. - It is true, I am known and respected here; but, well - No - let us just see what happens. - In any case, I do prefer to play it safe, that why I would like to conclude this deal with H… because I would get some money into my possession without having to pay any out; all I would have to do then is work, and I shall be only too happy to do that for my little wife.
