I've read the book(s), but with all the changes, I swore she was one of the other Rhol'lor witches from GoT based on how they costumed her as well. I even tried to look up the character/actress (I always called her the Black Witch, not/not Melisandre), but then figured out they just had Alys telling Daemon of the curse/prophecy in the Weirwood. Enjoying this show. Just wish they weren't dumbing it down so much from the source material. I know they have to, but some of the drag in these first few episodes is weak sauce when you know what they could be doing... they'll lose me as a fan if they don't play the Harrenhall arc out to the max. One of my favorite parts of Blood and Fire.

It's a really dumb decision that the character made, not the writers. It makes sense she would do something rash to avoid further conflict, she's never had much self preservation instincts.
