DAF ADBLUE QUALITY...ENGINE POWER REDUCTION? what can it be?

on my travels this week I've a DAF LF euro 6 With Adblue quality issue and Daf lf power reduced issues. With the help of JALTEST From ECLIPSE we can get to the bottom of this hopefully!
with various fault codes to do with nox conversion efficiency to low and data validation but too high I'm betting on a NOx sensor issue but I'm not willing to blow hard-earned money on one just yet so I'm going to go through a testing plan to ensure the system is correctly operating first and get to the bottom of this Nox conversion efficiency issue.

We really struggle with emissions issues, mainly Daf's and Iveco's. Anyone in the southeast near Dover that is this clued up/knowledgeable, we'd have pretty regular work for you. We've even sent trucks to the main dealer, only to be told nothing is wrong. Hopefully by watching these videos we'll learn how things work.

I know this is old, don't crucify me. Just for others' sake. I've heard of bad exhaust manifold gaskets causing this code. I've personally had it come on from needing def filter changed, bad def doser gasket, def doser needing cleaned manually, and I've had the code clear after a forced regen. Have had no issues with using aftermarket nox sensors of proper part number cross. Take that for what you will.

After carrying out quality test, EAS visual inspection and 100% checking for any universal component cheap NOX I disconnect adblue injector and run it out rather loaded or handbrake pulling it back on a long hill and see what there reading, normally find before CAT reading to low.

Hey George 👋. That sounds like a good idea, I think I'd of gone further with a road test if I didn't find the scr sensor hanging out and the dpf gasket blown. I'm still waiting for the call to see if faulted again 😪

Yeah your not wrong, it’s a code I see motors have thousands and thousands spent on it because no one wants to spend the time on it to get to the route cause. Seen people just throwing both nox sensors on it before even checking adblue quality, madness, why you will so well mate, rate to find someone who understands the importance of accurate diagnosis 🤙Similar to EMAS faults😂

I'd much rather explain to the customer we need to test everything first before throwing money at it even if it needs to go back out. I wish I could justify a £1000 of nox sensors without any testing 😂. I just bought a 600-bar digital LCD pressure sensor for screwing in to do EMAS faults.....if only I had some customers with emas faults 😂😂😂😂🙈

Had lf55 similar issue pal . Upstream nox sensor was causing the fault .

Hey Denis, I couldn't say I've ever had a blocked SCR cat but from experience, if you have gone through the motions of checking NOX levels and the Adblue system quality and quantity it will be the SCR CAT.

I too find front nox usually the problem because the ecu uses this to test scr efficencey ie cat or def fluid quantity or quality it always pop up those codes, i give it a regen so flow and temp is correct and look for an average of about 300 ppm oxygen pre cat with at least an 85 per cent reduction, if 300 ppm is nowhere near with no air leaks ect i take it as pre nox is reading incorrect.

I give it a regen then look at live data on Jaltest while on test drive for the 300ppm of oxygen on the front nox sensor ,bit difficult to see, bit unsettle but can see it on nice piece of road, and that reduces to below 45ppm if all is working fine, have had it where it shows more oxygen on rear than front ,defo sensor fault.

Whilst there is Ad-Blue/DEF fitted to diesel engines Techs (like yourself) will never be out of work. 😂. All to keep emissions down how on earth did we manage when we had a workshop full of white smoke on a cold morning on start up? Maybe I’m looking with rose tinted glasses.

I DONT KNOW WHAT WAS WORSE for euro 6 lmao I remember rebuilding an inline pump on a gardener and trying to alter the helix on the timing plunger for the spill port........talk about white smoke LMAO 🤣

I've a 2015 euro 6 xf some1 turned adblue off b4 I bought truck but when I hit a hill loaded or empty she has no power feels like the boost just stops and like she's trying to blow against a engine break if u get what u mean. Is that because the ad blue is off. Thanks

Hello, I have a problem with my Daf 105. The AdBlue temperature in the tank was found to be 20.1 degrees. I replaced the Adblue tank with the sensor but it didn't change anything. when I release the cube with it, the temperature still remains the same. you know how to help me, where to look for the problem, because I'm already throwing up my hands. Thank you for your help

In terms of the SCR catalyst… there’s a company in Norwich who replace the catalyst substrate inside the SCR unit for a fraction of the cost of a new unit, no need to buy the full system either. Had great success with these reconditioned units in the past!

Hello mate. I replace a nox sensor before the cat on mx13 euro6. Only erased the dtcs but after 10hours of driving I have the error and engine light again. I have problem with the values mesuared by the sensor. The sensor need to be calibrated or learning with davie? I didn't see learning procedure on daf dealernet manuals. I installed a used nox sensor.

Hi so if I was replacing the sensor I'd be looking at using a new genuine sensor first. What is the fault code and what other faults do you have with it? You don't need to do any learning process or resets with daf thank God

@codexTu so do a nox sensor evaluation test through your diagnostic tool to ensure this sensor is good. Then I'd start thinking about VTG turbocharger actuator performance, Any issues with the fuel in the truck? Leakage in inlet air system? Clogged EGR pressure difference sensor venturi? Few things to check but the only thing I can think of that could be messing with the NOX could be the turbo

@codexTu run the nox sensor test on the sensor through diagnostics. It might save you some money and check the turbo. Seems odd how you have high and low nox issues.....let me know how you get on also!

@@TRUCKTECHUK 90% of the breakdowns you get in Volvo action service is blocked injectors and nox sensors. There’s no trick to getting them out either. Just pain and heartache
