Love your garden. It has the cleanness of Japanese garden flavor and the beautiful color of cottage garden. It is one of the best combo style. Great job!!!

Wow Ting, thank you so very much! 😊 So many people favor cottage gardens -- and I love those too with all of the packed flowers, but being it's our front yard facing the street, I want to keep things tidy. And so your comment really means a lot to me, as sometimes I wonder if there's too much space between shrubs and flowers.

Such lovely display of daffodils! I am obsessed with their flowers each spring ever since visiting northern arizona and saw hundreds of daffodils grow wildly from the ground, complimented every house just nicely x

Why thank you so much! I adore those red and yellow dogwoods together - I first saw that combination with daffodils at the 2019 Philadelphia Flower Show, and warned my husband that we would be moving our red twig dogwoods and adding yellow ones in between. Always good to give him advance warning of heavy lifting! 😅 I’m looking forward to the daffodils around the dogwoods filling in over time. 🌼

I'm so glad you agree Brenda! I love this combo too, so very much! I'm eagerly awaiting the daffodils around the red (and yellow) twig dogwoods this Spring...the leaves are up but not the flowers just yet! Do you have this combination as well?

🤣 Oh Celeste, I can relate! I still feel like I don't have enough daffodil bulbs planted. I just love them that much! Hope you can add more in the Fall to enjoy next Spring!

The augers is a great help in speeding up the process of planting in soft soil. But my auger is designed to be not very sharp and it stops when there is resistance (has different resistance setting and I think most are designed this way for safety reasons). You might find a need to cut through the roots with an actual drill with bits for wood. 🤷‍♀️

Thank you SO much for the advice! Yes, my impression when I've watched videos of gardeners using augers for bulb planting is either A) their soil must be fantastic for the auger to work so easily; or B) the auger must be super-powerful to cut through any shallow roots. I appreciate your suggestion. I think I'll spend all Summer into Fall gearing up my confidence to successfully use one! 😀

Absolutely beautiful!!!!!! Waiting for mine to bloom atm. I only have 3 different varieties at the moment and may leave it at that... who knows with me! Do you have to thin them or separate them at all? Ty you for sharing!
@GardenSanity
@GardenSanity 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you!! I haven't had to thin mine or divide them at all. And I'm not sure if I'll have to. I know it's not uncommon to have to do so if and when they begin not blooming so great which means they've become crowded...but so far, so good! Which 3 varieties do you have?

@@GardenSanity Double Replete, Ice Follies and Dutch Master so far. I must say the Replete are some of the prettiest I have and then the regular yellow Dutch Master are so reliable. I guess I don't have to divide them but there's quite a congestion by my garage door

@@GardenSanity Dutch Master is beginning to bloom now. I'm guessing the rest are not far behind along with the tulips which I cannot believe are still here after the moles have their way in my garden! Little piglets!

If the flower broke during a rainstorm will it flower the following year?
@GardenSanity
@GardenSanity 5 ай бұрын
Yes it will, as the leaves will help to store up energy until they turn brown. The bulb then continues to gather nutrients from the soil (and possibly bulb fertilizer if applied) over the next year. It's the bulb's stored up nutrients over the year that produce the pretty flowers! Thanks for asking! 😊

3:03 You seem to have some mutant Red Devon daffodils? (they have 4 petals)

That is really odd, and I never noticed that before! 🤔 This video was 2 years ago, so I will definitely look at that particular patch of Red Devons closely this year. Stay tuned because I’ll film it and share. Thanks for your expert eyes! 🌼❤️

Do you find a certain depth to plant the bulbs is best for you? I have a really bad squirrel problem so worry they will eat the bulbs before they get a chance. I'm waiting on a delivery of citrus sorbet daffodils but won't be planting them until the weather here in Georgia gets colder for a week or so (I'm just learning from your videos, gardening is new to me!)

Hi Sue -- great question! It depends on the type of Daffodil bulb you are planting. It isn’t a one-size-fits-all answer, unfortunately. Petite daffodil bulbs only need to be a few inches down into the soil, while larger varieties may need to be 6 inches deep. Always refer to the information for the specific daffodil variety you are planting - whether that is on the bulb seller’s website, catalog or package information -- it will always be included. I looked yours up and it appears that 6 inches deep is best for this variety. I hope this helps! 👍🌼 (Also, please see my "how to plant daffodils" video for some tips on discouraging squirrels from digging -- I have that problem too!)
