I paid $213 US + tax for a bottle I found in the wild at a reputable liquor store here in Houston, Texas. I knew I was paying over the odds, but I also never expected to see a bottle, so given the chance, I took the plunge. It is an absolute belter, truly one of the best bottles of whisk[e]y I've ever tried, and I'm happy I bought it. Would I buy another at that price? I have no idea, but I'll say this: There isn't anything else on the market like it in my area at *any* price. You're recommendation of Lochlea has me very intrigued. Thanks for the review!

Nice review Nice dram ! It’s been $260 over here for past few years…mostly growing whiskers 😅 Cheers 🥃

Not surprised 😂 You can get a lot of other bottles for that price. I think for me Daftmill is going into the same bracket as Annandale. Great whisky but not something I'm going to pay the price for. Cheers 🥃

I have a 2010 vintage 46%er and a 15 year old “Fife strength”. Both open for sharing. Can’t help but feel a bit sorry for those so consumed by greed and numbers on a screen to ever be able to enjoy these bottles for what they are.
@barryfrombarnsley27906 ай бұрын
Both purchased at retail have had terrible experience trying to compete with bots on Berry Bros website. Even had them cancel my order after being successful. Horrendous company to deal with. Was lucky enough to get both bottles from a quiet out-of-the-way independent retailer.
@WhiskyLock6 ай бұрын
Yes exactly that. It seems like such a shame to seek out and store these bottles just to pass them on to someone else... and even that other person may not even drink them. Not what whisky is for...

Excellent review, as always! I am lucky enough to live in a place with a shop that brings in Daftmill but no one here knows what it is! It has even gone on discount a number of times 😅 I bought, and opened, the 15 CS and it’s very good, and I haven’t opened the 2010 winter batch yet. Cheers, Shane!

I allow myself one "splurge" bottle per year and for a few years I would buy a Daftmill exactly because it's representative of that classic Lowland style - stuff like Bladnoch, Rosebank, Littlemill, and Inverleven. Let alone the scarcity of Daftmill itself, it's a flavor profile that's been difficult to come by and it's one I'm a huge fan of. That said, it's an awful lot of money for a bottle and it's money almost certainly better spent on something else. If you just want to try it, do what Whisky Lock did and get yourself a sample or two. Either that or find a whisky bar that happens to have it and treat yourself to a pour. If you happen to be in Campbeltown hunting Springbank cage bottles, pop over to The Ardshiel as they'll have a couple of Daftmills to try.

Great advice. At the moment MoM appear to have 529 (lol) samples of this Daftmill for those who are curious but can't or won't buy a whole bottle. Cheers 🥃

Good review Shane! Not one I am likely to get my hands on, even as a sample. Daftmill is mostly out of stock here but when it was in stock it was retailing anywhere between $350 - $500 NZD, well outside my budget. There is one retailer with stock of the 2007-2020 Winter Release 46% for $900 NZD, (approx. 430 GBP). Cheers!

Nice review, wouldn’t agree though that you necessarily have to pay above retail on the secondary market. Interest on the secondary market has cooled and the 46% ABV Daftmill can certainly be found for retail price or less, even taking auction fees into account.

Things are certainly better than they were. I actually recorded this video a very long time ago and things have changed a bit. To the point where I've made a couple of auction purchases recently and I *never* pay above RRP. Cheers 🥃

I was fortunate to procure a 2011 Sunner batch 46%er a few months ago at retail price. Still expensive but id always fancy trying a bottle and generally dont browse the samples much at all (in the earlier days i did to make up free poatage) I do intend on opening but lowlands arent particularly my bag, however i have picked up a few over the past year with the cadenhead engimas etc. Nice to know im not missing much on the other releases ive never for hold of.

They are all quite pricey in my opinion. Undoubtedly well made but expensive nonetheless! I guess that's the downside of extremely small scale production...

Hi Shane I have a full bottle of daftmill 2006 that I bought a few years ago and I just haven't opened the bottle, no particular reason, just have alot of whiskey to try. I would sell it if someone wanted to buy it. I have over 200 bottles in my. collection now, I'm just saying, not to brag. I remember what I payed for it,it wasn't cheap for sure, I think I bought it about 2018,not exactly sure but saw it at spec's liquor and knowing it was hard to come by,I decided to pull the trigger, great review, look forward to seeing 👀 more reviews, cheers sir !!!

I've been in that situation myself where you start to become reluctant to open a bottle as you watch the 'value' go higher and higher 😂 I guess if you feel that that 'value' would allow you to get different bottles that you would enjoy more then it makes sense to release it back into the wild 🤷♂️ Thanks for the kind words and cheers 🥃

Hi Shane, in a strange twist of fate, Daftmill is actually quite available to me at retail. The FOMO somehow hasn't followed it across the Atlantic and the single Canadian retailer who carries it is of high integrity and keeps the Daftmill-tax too a minimum. I have the 15yr cask strength currently open and it's tremendously enjoyable (I'd be happy to send a sample!) I get those flavours of whisky made by passionate people for the right reasons (similar to Springbank, Ardnamurchan, etc). Yes, the prices are high, but this is not mass-produced liquid, so I make an exception.
@WhiskyLock6 ай бұрын
Thanks Sascha. I always find it crazy how there are little pockets of availability. Enjoy! And hopefully the wrong people don't find out about it. Agree that you can taste that it's a craft produced and presented whisky 👍

Just opened up a Macallan 12 sherry cask that I've had for probably 10 years the cork was rotten and had to use a corkscrew to get it out but the whisky is fantastic. Fruity and heavy pear and sweetness. I'll get another for sure. And open it sooner. Great review most of what you showcase isn't something ill see most of the time but I enjoy see the review. Enjoy!!

It's nice to have these dusty bottles on the shelf so you can experience the past. Be sure to keep some of your current bottle for comparison to the next 👍 I would really like to get a good Macallan to review but the price you have to pay for a proper ABV keeps putting me off 😕 one day!

Nice review Shane I was wondering what you'd think about this. I haven't tried this paticular one but I have tried a few Daftmills and I quite enjoyed them. It's commendable that they've not releases a young whisky and waited 10 years for their first release. I don't think the price is necessarily reflective of the taste but it is reflective of the hard. natural work going into this whisky. It's very smart to compare Lochlea to Daftmill as they come from similar places but I've tried the Lochlea 5 agains a Daftmill 2006 - 2018 and Daftmill, for me, was miles better. The age does matter to a certain degree but yeah they are ridiculously expensive. Cheers 🥃

@WhiskyLock6 ай бұрын
That's the thing. I wouldn't be surprised if the majority of bottles are still sealed for fear of destroying the value. Still, perhaps it takes some of the pressure off Springbank 😂
