That second technique is pretty scary. Aside from being in a good position to break your opponent's elbow, it looks like you could make them land straight on the back of their neck if you put a bit more force into it. Ouch o_0
@pursuingtheknightlyarts68416 жыл бұрын
Evan, yeah the text simply says to throw them, but we have no doubt that if if picked up the leg further you could throw him on his head. Naturally we didn't want to try this... at least as of right now ;) -Reece

Red Crusader, thank you so much! We really strive to make the channel as educational as possible. We hope to encourage others to pursue this side of the art and demonstrate how the Knightly class fought and died. They're far too many misconceptions and false information our there. Glade you've enjoyed the channel. Let us know what else you'd like to see/cover and we'll do our our best to show it :) -Reece

PursuingThe KnightlyArts That's awesome. Keep up the great work! Personally I'd love to see some more videos showing off some long sword techniques. I currently just do jousting, but I'd love to pick up the long sword some day too.

another great video! Regarding the first throw, I feel like a part was left out of the original text. When he comes to stab at you with the forward grip, the first and easiest step from other dagger techniques would be an Absetzen with the left arm. Of course using your left arm to block means your left hand is right there to seize his lead leg :-) If he sees that you've blocked his stab, then he may attempt to withdraw, which makes the backwards throw more powerful and safer (on the winner's side at least!)
@pursuingtheknightlyarts68416 жыл бұрын
Laurel City Historical Fencing, yes we agree. We thought this was a strange one. We too felt it would have been more beneficial to approach it from nachtrisen (following after) as he stepped away, as that would have ideally thrown him more. However the translation doesn't say that, so we wanted to try it out as is. It's strange to see it say the left foot is forward for a thrust. We can assume he was "coiled" for a thrust. It's debatable if that was the case. Thanks for the comment! We'll be sure to do a video response covering your techniques soon and give your channel a ping! :) -Reece -
@LaurelCityHistoricalFencing6 жыл бұрын
hypothetically, his left foot could be forward if they've already closed distance and he's just drawn his dagger. No reason to step if you're already in range

Hello, I am a big fan of your videos, and am currently saving up for a harness. Unfortunately, I do not know where I could train or get armor in the RI/CT area. I was hoping you could sudjest a few schools in that area, and maybe an armorer? I also would like to know if there is a school in TN: I go to college there, and would like to practice there when I get my harness.
@pursuingtheknightlyarts68416 жыл бұрын
Corey Reynolds , excellent! If your going to school in Tennessee I recommend reaching out to the Southern academy of swordsmanship. Scott Wilson is the founder and he's an armourer as well. They focus on the Italian tradition and are really great guys to learn from. Let us know how it goes! We'll be creating a series soon on building a harness for Harnischfechten, so stay tuned. -Reece

Can you show something about maces? How where they used in armor?
@juanpablogonzalez85286 жыл бұрын
hit them with the heavy end now being serious i would like that too
@pursuingtheknightlyarts68416 жыл бұрын
Not exactly...sadly we don't have any manuals/treatises that show how they were used. We can speculate how they were used, seeing how they had multiple points of contact all around the head of the mace. We might touch on it on the future, but we focus on showing techniques that we can document from the various surviving treatises. Thanks for your comment! We're always looking for more content to cover in the future :) -Reece

Those gaps in the historical sources are frustrating. Things like maces, one-handed flails, sword and full-sized shield both with strapped and center held shields and regional styles like Polish saber and (as far as I know) yataghans are all sadly lacking in sources. There are reconstruction efforts, but we'll never really know for sure how correct the reconstructions are (unless some long lost manuscript comes to light that details them). And speaking of shields. I'm curious if you've done anything with those crazy spiky German Dueling Shields (I've also seen them called Longshields). Mair even has them being used in armor, but I suspect that is just artistic license because the sources he took the techniques from are unarmored, and I have a hard time seeing these shields (which look to be mostly leather with a wooden pole down the middle and possibly steel edges) doing much against armor.
@joost11206 жыл бұрын
One reason why you can't find a lot on one-handed flails might be because they just might not have been used.

if the opponent has a open helmet or no helmet. the hand under his nose and push upp and awey from you works nice. but do it carfully if it´s sparring.

Armor looks different. New stuff? Some of those thuds made me whinge a bit reminding me of football.
@pursuingtheknightlyarts68416 жыл бұрын
Same armour. New finish ;) Yeah, the falls are no joke, even with full harness...was interesting to feel how effortless it was to lift me up, just due to manipulating my energy. I weight close to 230 pounds with my harness, so there is no feasible way for him to lift me by muscle alone. Thanks for the comment! We'll try our best to avoid the "football" injuries ;) -Reece
