@PistachioBandit
@PistachioBandit 6 ай бұрын
@@Lazaven While I wouldn't call this " glorification " I do think there needs to be a deeper conversation about making the most tragic experience of dozens of families' lives into entertainment. I found this series gripping, and nauseating. I am a fan of Tru Crime content but understand that it must be absolutely traumatizing for some of the family members of the victims to see themselves and their slain loved ones recreated, re-enacted, exaggerated, and dramatized for this series. This is not a tru- to life re-enactment( not a documentary so not necessarily educational ) .... things were changed to heighten drama in the service of entertainment and at the expense of the truth and the victims. I can certainly understand why the families of victims are upset that they were not consulted or even notified of this show's production until after it's release. I am torn, it is a great crime series, but we can't just ignore the dubious moral dilemmas involved. If your parent/sibling/best friend/spouse was brutally murdered and 30 yrs later you see a TV show has yoinked the death and suffering and final moments of your loved one and altered it for drama to create an entertainment product you would be pissed off. We all would.

@@Digibullet32Dahmer was always “popular”. When the news broke and the trial happened, it was literally everywhere. He’s had multiple movies made about him. This was different, because it actually included some of the victims’ stories and talked about the systemic problems involved. This looks great and Evan Peters definitely nailed the tone of Dahmer's voice but he added way too much of a obvious creepy/threatening vibe to it. Dahmer talked slowly but still had normal lifts and drops to his voice, the fact that he didn't have a completely flat affect made him more scary in my opinion. Hoping he doesn't talk like this all of the time, makes it a little cheesy is all.

@@bartpitt2991 I would get to know as much as possible. Because as good as this looks many shows don’t tell the truth exactly and they leave the most important details out. There are a few things about Dahmer. He only targeted black men, he ate his victims, slept with their bodies. He claims after a while he did not like killing his victims so he would drill holes in their temples and pour scolding water for the victim to become zombie like but they would just die anyway. Jeff Dahmer would dispose of the bodies by dumping them in a tub of hydrochloric acid and dump the sludge down his tub. The police were called to his apartment many times due to bad odor I think it was about 10 plus times but he always made friendly with the cops.

This series succeeded in doing something that none of the other previous movies or literature regarding Jeffrey Dahmer had done before. A humanized every single person involved, from Dahmer's parents, to the victims and their families, to even Jeffrey Dahmer himself. Frankly a lot of people have criticism about how it seems to almost portray dumber as a hero. Did they even bother watching the film? And no point is that impression ever given. And no way do I see this glorifying Jeffrey Dahmer; my entire impression of the writing and the acting as a form of art displayed nothing short of contempt for Dahmer's murders. The life and personality of many of his victims were explored I just made it so much more heartbreaking to see their lives snuffed out by an extremely troubled, and awful person. The whole time i grieved for the victims and had hope that things would end different, even though i knew it was not going to change or get better

I’ve studied serial killers, and read everything I could; especially Dahmer. Well, I’m watching the series for six months and have seen the first five episodes; as it’s pretty accurate and hard to stomach. Peters frightening portrayal of Dahmer will win himself a Emmy again. What most people don’t know is Jeffrey Dahmer became a strong Christian; started a prison ministry with over 700 inmates participating today. Even to the point of total repentance, accepted Christ as his Savior, and apologized for his actions. Not that that erases the evil deeds he committed, but showing that God can really change people. And no, he didn’t do it for a lighter sentence; as he had life with no parole. Dahmer knew he die in prison and did all he could to help instead of hinder in his interviews; as he felt his insight could save others lives from informing law enforcement to see warning signs in young adolescents.

Even though Ryan M co wrote this, you can tell it was mostly directed by a woman. It was done beautifully and I’m happy that this gives Evan a chance to act as a counterpart to a character he made (fun of) / fun with, in AHS HOTEL. It’s almost ironic. He is truly a brilliant actor and I see him really shining in this. All the actors were phenomenal. It doesn’t glorify serial killers the way a lot of these styles of film do. It just shows the truth is in a way that is artistic but tasteful.

I dont think too many films 'glorify' serial killers, but some of them are guilty of sensationalism. This mini-series found a kind of 'middle ground', in regards to how graphic it got. In many cases, the really bad stuff is merely alluded to, more than shown outright.

Ryan said he'll be focusing a lot on how cops dropped the ball here by refusing to listen to black women. We see it in the trailer already but there is at least ten different times the cops screwed up. I think it's important that's portrayed.

@@kairicalypso75 Jeffrey Dahmer went after the most vulnerable and unprotected in the community and used his status as a white man to further justify his killings. This portrayal of Dahmer is a little too on the nose and ominous to believe that victims would be disarmed by him and his personality. If anyone acted like that, no one would trust that person, let alone follow them into their apartment. I feel the portrayal was too brooding, monstrous at times when he is hunting victims.

Evan, Richard & Niecy were topnotch here. Other than that, the season overall is a disaster. They stretched the episodes for who knows what reasons. I'll tell you what, if you really want to know about what happened, just read it online. It's pointless to waste your 9 odd hours on this.

They actually made a feature film about the columbine killers. It wasn't produced by Netflix, tho. "True Crime" is a popular genre, always has been and likely always will be. Even bookstores have entire sections dedicated to that genre. It's part of the culture. Anyone is welcome to boycott it, if they are so offended by it.
