@@meheretoday6968 yep! The saleswomen worked on commission and they loved the sight of an Asian woman walking up to the counter with a long list in her hand. They would usually buy when the brand, say Estee Lauder, was running a "gift with purchase" promotion. The ads would say something like "Minimum $35 purchase limit one gift per customer." They would demand one gift for every $35 they spent. And they would get it. They would then sell the "free gifts" and just two of those would pay for the overseas shipping. That means the rest of the products they sold would be pure profit, baby. It was very lucrative for them, the department store, the brand, AND the salesgirl! It's been years since I've thought of this...

All these young asian student women running big business and driving new cars-frequently in the media seem to forget that; they are not paying tax and doing ANYTHING & EVERYTHING to avoid even 1 cent tax, ripping our economy and disrespecting our authority & laws. I AM IN AUBURN, Sydney NSW and in the supply & daigou industry for 5 years and know this very well. They have no formal business, dont pay any tax, work in cash & wepay. WE MUST TAX THEM like all other aussies have to because we need that money for AUSTRALIA-NOT CHINA!!! Shame on Chinese people-we are very offended as Australians by this disrespect and tax evasion and are doing all we can do report as many of these dodgy immigrants.

The stupid person makes a product. The smart people are the ones who market, resell, and ship that product. They get to make almost all the profit while carrying very little risk. Have a look at wine for example. The producer gets about 15% from the sale of a bottle at the retail level. The rest goes to wholesalers, retailers, and the tax department. If a winemaker has a bad year the marketers, resellers, and shippers of that product can just abandon the product and leave all the losses to the winery.

There's no point in getting these Daigous to do the right thing - paying tax and all, like any self employed citizens in Australia (register for ABN etc). When they prepare to send out the items to another country, it is up to Border control and Australia Post (or any other postal services) within the boundaries of Australia, to scan these items and record in a national registry, that once any items are sent continuously, the sender will be sent a tax bill or tax avoidance penalty notice, so they will no way avoid paying any tax at all. All in all, they are making alot of monies from selling Australian products to their countries, right? For example, Daigou One sent 20 tins of baby milk powder and 50 other individual Australian product, over the course of one month to China, then Australia's Border should record their name, address, and item value being sent on a national register. Their address and total value should able be cross referenced, as each Daigou might use false names or their family members or room mates' names to send out. The Daigous' names and addresses should be cross checked automatically to their TFNs and their Passports. This is why Daigous are able to afford a life of luxury, because they are making alot of money and no need to work for anyone, no need to study, so they have bad or broken English, and just think the power of money buys everything.

Don’t blame the Chinese. The Australian government actually encouraged the business as it is a way for the goods to be sold into China. Australia government actually opened up some vitamin outlets and others in post office to encourage daigou to buy and ship it free of v a t to China. The government can stop it anytime if it is harmful to the economy. The business creates jobs in Australia and became a viable distribution channel. A lot of disgous are students and housewife’s. It is also dependent on cheap freights. I think the daigous are inactive now. Don’t always think that business with China is bad for Australia.....as I say......the Aussie government is NOT stupid. Without China ....a lot of business in Australia will suffer. If you are not doing business,....you can afford to be anti China. Damn the torpedoes ! Not my problem .....haha.

"Australia has become a pioneer in terms of scale and sophistication" No.... Chinese people in australia have done that, Australia, and australians have been sitting in the dark and don't know shit. Its a grey market business and only Chinese are willing to do it, because working in a grey market area is standard China operating procedure. Daigou procedure is technically illegal in China, yet... just like almost everything else in China, people turn a blind eye, and government official and customs are corruptible. A red envelope here or there and you grease the wheels. This happens in legitimate business, and it definitely happens in the grey market. Of course its a tax loophole. When you see empty shelves at the baby formula aisle, the root cause of the situation is neither the shady Chinese shoppers nor the greedy retail corporates. It's that Chinese government set up trade barriers on importing Australian products. It's that Chinese government restrict the free flow of capital. Actually you can buy those products via other channels in China, like supermarket. But the price is tripled as much as in Australia. How come those bulk importing costs more than thousands of small parcels? Tariff, rent seeking (yeah, I mean bribery) and compliance (yeah, Chinese government agencies validate the quality of baby formula. Amazing!)

there are many counterfeit products online and it's impossible to tell which seller is genuine. since daigous are students currently living in australia, they livestream their shopping and packing, and provide pre and after sales customer care, so the families buying aussie products trust the daigou since it's a real person on the other side.

there was a scandal in china about infant milk formula which killed about 40 babies and put about 300 000 babies in hospitals, so now they don't trust their local products especially when it come to baby foods and health. they do not trust their OWN products, why in the hell should we trust theirs !!

I often have to travel to numerous stores to find the milk powder that my baby likes or get to the store upon opening and beat them to the powder. Not a fault of the manufacturers, more of the symptom of the not my problem, who cares attitude of the Daigou's. You say why don't the manufacturers make enough for everyone? As soon as the shelves are filled the Daigou's buy the lot. 2 can or 4 can limits are being made a mockery of by these Daigou's who behave appallingly.

Paying taxes where you make money and live means you are contributing to that society. Not paying taxes means you are a burden on that society. However if they do make money from product placement on Australian shelves and aren't paying tax on profits then infact they are the description of a parasite.

Constantine B parasites lol the politicians and bankers are the real parasites. These people are helping the economy, buying from Australian companies, paying the GST, paying for postage and logistics. That’s not a parasite. We are over taxed here. They are not doing anything illegal if the profits don’t return to Australia. Good for them. I wish I could do it.

@@VoltPercival NO; Not usually my friend; I can clearly tell you with Authority because I have been involved in baby formula bulk supply since 2014 (5 years) see www.australasiahealth.com.au and run wechat trade groups with thousands of chinese Daigous. The BIGGER players such as the ones really making $- DONT buy from woolies etc-they buy from bulk supply warehouses (pallet quantity) and its all CASH my friend. So that reduces the GST paid argument. The little fish (students) who may buy a few tins weekly and make a few $ per tin DO pay GST. The MAJORITY entrepeneurs buy BULK. AND PAY no tax as all payments are made via WEPAY Wechat pay system) in China and the $ goes directly into their CHINESE accounts.

Australian people are weird sometimes. The Daigou industry helps Australian companies sell more products therefore there will be more tax paid to the government from these companies. With the increased sales, you will need to have increased production and increased employment, the government will collect tax from those. And then there's logistics, freights and more, government benefits from those as well. Will you rather not have the daigou industry because you are not collecting as much income tax as you would like to?

If this was a white person or people that would be a different story wouldn’t it? ..if u r the ones that say no to this question then why white or first world countries’ buys from China (cheap products) and resells them in their countries for a marked up price and make a huge profit and no one says anything.. and when this is other way around u think and feel like they r robbing ur country’s goods LMAO‼️😂

What's wrong with exporting products which was bought from shops and supermarkets? These increased product volume for the companies concerned, taxes already paid to Australian government. The concern of those with daigou is they cannot access the market of the daigou so its plain envy not wrong doing. As to the tax it would be paid in China not Australia as the product is sold in China.
