That's a tidy engine bay and the shiniest straight six rocker cover I've ever seen. Like you say someone has been looking after your 2600 and putting some time and money into it. When the fuel tank gremlins are under control and the paint work is sorted it will be a proper one off and a joy to own.. 😎😎😎

It's been powdercoated along with the timing belt cover and carb airbox. Looks really good and should be hard wearing too. Still a few fuel gremlins to sort but we're getting there.

I learnt that keeping my SD1 tank no less than half full at all times, as i found if the tank was allowed to run down to empty the pump would over heat enough to bind up . I went through two pumps before i discovered that the fuel was also a coolant 😋

The fuel pump relay in the drivers side wing just behind the headlamp was a favorite. Would often run for days and even weeks would just pack up. I took me ages to fibd it on mine . Fitted a new relay and never had any more problems while I had it. Good strong cars .

I believe that at the very front of the cylinder head ..... there's a small ball bearing on a spring ???? . Engine oil flows through it .... and if it gets clogged .. the cam siezes . (i had a "pin" job at a Rover dealer way back in the 80's). . Hope this helps 🙂

I'd forgotten how nice the SD1 straight six sounds when it's on song :) Thumbs-up for both the car and the dog ^^

Thanks! I'm one of the few that thinks the 6 sounds as good as the 8. The dog is a pain but we wouldn't have him any other way. 😂

@@peakclassiccars Even the 2300 sounds purposeful. I reckon that the 2600 is a better proposition than the 3500, especially if you're driving an SD1 as a daily. Is the dog a black GSD? He looks like one.
@peakclassiccars
@peakclassiccars 10 ай бұрын
@shepshepherd Yeah he's a 1 year old GSD. Still lanky and still very much learning but he's a good lad and tries hard. I thought about converting to V8 but I just can't justify it, the 2600 does everything I need it too.

Ah the infamous list!! :D I need to find that out and have a look. Fuel tank clean will definitely be on there now though.

I got to say when buy cars from 1980 or earlier i do tand to remove tank and flush out as soon as it possible to do so as these older cars did get lots of crap in the fuel as petrol pumps and stuff back then had less filtering equipment. But lovely to see this fine car on the road

It's definitely on the jobs list now. I did look to see if I could buy a new tank but they're NLA.

Nice to see a SD1 being used. If the tank is full of debris instead of letting the filters clog and starve the engine, syphon it out a few times thru the sender hole. Filter the petrol thru a cloth and return and repeat.

That's not a bad idea, I'll give it a try, thank you!

Like the wheels. Your petrol tank may be suffering. Not sure what availability is like but I had to get used for my EFi.

I've had a look and you can't get tanks new anymore. I might have to clean this one out and get one of those kits to coat it inside...there's definitely a fair bit of sediment in there.

@@peakclassiccarsI had one many moons ago, actually before god was a kid. I always thought the lattice wheels off the V8's were the best OEM look.

What the spark plugs is concerned. They have conical threads no gaskets, so overtightening has to be avoided.
