I was an English teacher at elementary schools in Korea for 2 years (and at a 학원 for 1 year) and this makes me miss it. It was always so fun interacting with the students. It's funny to see everyone in their long padding all day 😆 Enjoy your break!

Most korean high schools in k-dramas are heavily exaggerated because I happened to see references! As a native I'd like to say that although bullying definitely appears in Korean schools, it is not a common appearance and young children are taught at their age the responsibilities and acceptable behaviors to etiquette. Children as young as 4 can already be roaming the streets by themselves in this cosy country! Not trying to be a prideful egoist but compared to many countries, Korea is a very very safe country and crime and teenage problem rates are much lower. If you are considering international schooling or returning to korea as a native, I highly suggest it although it may very uncomfortable to fit in at first!! It will be very easy to learn roads and paths although every apartment in certain cities in Korean look the EXACT same, I used to get lost in third grade alot when I was returning home from playing or going outside. It amazes me how so many people are into this culture and represent their nationality with pride and confidence!! It's been so long since I've gone back to Korea due to covid and I think i've forgotten so much even though I grew up there... I'm hoping this Christmas I will be given a chance to go back and hopefully indulge myself back into the street foods and meet my distant family. As the first Australian born in my family, my parents were too focused on trying to make me their english 101 but it's unfortunate that when we returned from Korea after living there my childhood all I was focused on doing was the oc and selective. Queenie you truly bring a positive heart ache to my mind just making me so excited to visit Korea again!!! I wouldn't say my english isn't that great right now either I've known korean much longer than English yet I'd starting to stray away from it..

We don’t have janitors to clean the classrooms and schools in Korea and Japan. It’s part of the education purpose for students to clean things they used and manage the public area neat and clean for others. It’s a matter of the class schedule following days so students take their books home or leave them in their locker.
