Hello from Australia. I have been watching your videos before bedtime for a while. They are very soothing, very grounding. You are a lovely girl who understands that growing as a human being is not about making money, having many things and being 'successful'. You understand that life is all about inner growth, spiritually, emotionally, psychologically. A 'small' life is precious, it does not make the ego grow and it not based on craving and greed. Good for you. I am 78 years of and have travelled much, lived in other cultures but it is now that I am living a small and quiet life that I feel the love for the small precious things around me and inside me. Thank you for sharing your pure heart with us : )

I make 14 an hour but I only have one bill. House is paid for, water is free, no tv or internet, no phone, no subscriptions, no car, no debt whatsoever. I only spend about 3 dollars a day on food, I grow a lot of my food and have 5 pecan trees and 12 chickens. It's nice being able to spend 500 a week on whatever. I'm definitely fortunate, I know not everyone has the ability to live with such little overhead. But I do believe that the average person can definitely save on a lot, but they choose not to.

I think a lot of people are caught up in the rat race, They gotta have a nice car, a nice house, the new iPhone, name brand food, etc. Most people are $60k in debt before they have a stable income. It's sad that people are conditioned to handle their money this way. This is how they make you a financial slave.

This is my favorite episode. It was very interesting to get financial figures (such a personal topic) from someone in a different country. I think it's a topic many people wonder about but never ask about. Thank you for sharing! The second reason I love this episode is because of Lou C.'s commentary on why she donates to charity. It really touched me. I teach elementary school children (primary grades) to many impoverished children in the United States. Her story about poverty, determination, and studying hard to achieve one's dreams is something I will definitely share with future students. Very inspirational - Thank you!

Lovely video. Lou is so careful and diligent in her work, it is a beautiful thing to watch her prepare a meal. Love the detail like the towel under the chopping board. She prepares real food, not like in the UK where a cheap, microwaved ready meal seems to be the preferred choice- which allows more time to poke the phone hopelessly for no value. You get your priorities right in life. I am impressed.

I used to work at an American university with an American man who loved Japan. He lived there for 2 years as an English teacher and went back for visits. He introduced me to the work of film directors Kirosawa, Miyazaki, and Kobayashi. He would bring Japanese treats to the office; one of my favorites were matcha Pockys. I saw them in this video when you were shopping.

My dream is to visit Japan as I am an American anime/manga artist/author. I live in Alaska here in the US and a small carton of milk like that for us is $8.25 !! I love seeing how low prices for food is there. I know cost of living is expensive there in Japan but wow that food is cheap!!

TWO DOLLARS FOR MIXED PORK AND BEEF?! Damn. We're getting shafted here in Canada, that little portion would've cost 20 bucks alone. Edit: Yeah, Pork and Beef, namely beef, is astronomically expensive here in Canada right now. Like i'd kill for beef that cost as much as a timmies Iced coffee.

Thank you for the video, I'm from the UK so it was interesting to see how it is over in Japan for a day, it's the first time I've seen the 100Y shops. Also some advice for carrying delicate items that may break easily when traveling, wrapping them in paper and then placing them inside a T-shirt or some trousers to protect it in your luggage helps a lot, I had to carry some very fragile items on 5 hour flights that survived every time using these methods. I hope you have a pleasant day 😊

We call hamburg steak meatloaf here in the US, you cook it in the oven & put ketchup on top. The ketchup turns into a glaze. (You need an oven). It looks like a loaf of bread & you roast it. I like to add Worcestershire sauce & a handful of oats. We serve it with a side peas & mashed potatoes. (Comfort food). Mmmmm.
