I wish this guidance was given at the time I was seen by the doctor/his staff who would have experience having worked with patients. It was frustrating figuring these matters out on my own when I need to focus on self care, that I turned to the internet for resources or had to use creative thinking. I cannot tell you how grateful I am to youtube for these videos.❤

10 months after my hip replacement and walking normally without a walker or cane. I’m so thankful I had this done after I broke my hip. It was well worth it!

If I'd watched this video I'd never have gotten my first hip replacement let alone the second! If you take the time to find a surgeon who is trained and experienced in the Anterior Approach - none of this is necessary. I bent over, tied my shoes, got dressed, climbed into a Dodge Ram 2500 pick up and went home in 36 hours ( my husband drove). I used one crutch for 5 days. No movement restrictions, no walker, no physical therapy. Piece of cake. I went back to work in ten days.

Thanks for that comment....I am having an anterior replacement done this month (July).....talked to Doc this week for pre-op visit and he said the same ....no restrictions...said probably overnight stay. He has done over 9000 of these surgeries! There is a lot of out of date and scary stuff out on KZbin regarding this subject. This technology has improved immensely over just the past 4 years. 😃

May I ask, when can you bend your body after hip replacement operation. When can i wear socks by myself. Am curios to know, after 22 days operation. Had sat down for nearly two hours, later in the evening found, buttock areas n groin are painful. Is it normal.

@@JH-ki2iq As a student OTA we are being taught both way, but Antero surgerys still can have restrictions such as avoiding hip extension (stepping backward or hip flexor stretch), external rotation (rotating toes out), and hip adduction (crossing operated leg over midline toward other leg). Less issues compared to posterior surgery!

I pray yure all doing fine now. I had my double hip joint replacement in 2020. I followed the healing instructions and of course I am careful as I know I dont ever want to pop one out, my surgeon said is very painful to get it popped back in place. I am so happy I had that surgery!! No more double forearm crutches!

I discovered I needed both hips replaced because over the years, I had literally worn the cartilage away through running and martial arts. Within 2 weeks after having the right hip replaced, I was pain-free and fully supporting my weight on that hip/leg, yet am still dealing with the left. I will have to wait another 2 and a half months before having that replacement done, but I am not worried about pain or the therapy needed post surgery any longer. Keeping your overall health and strength up has been the key to my very speedy recovery.

"Eileen Smith" An orthopedic doctor told me that the arthritis I have is genetic and nothing I did caused it. I used to do a lot of running too. The doctor said that there are people who engage in sports or athletics that are high impact on the joints and never get arthritis and some people who mildly exercise and low impact activities may still get worn out cartilage and arthritis.

If I had known these problems would arise while being athletic as a youngster, I would never have engaged in fast and heavy sports that can take its toll on the joints.

I am set to do partial hip replacement. It will take approximately 6 weeks to the day! I've been practicing the strength in my arms, lifting off from the armrests on my chair unto my walker. Same thing from the bed to the edge, lifting off with my arm's. Extending my soon to be replaced leg out, and using good leg to help strengthen the new. Going up steps with good leg and then fixed, coming down with good leg and fixed. Using a walker for this for now. Need to bring sweat pants, non skid socks, comfortable top. No underwear to tear at wound. Will use other types of under garments. Hopefully pre0-practice will strengthen my arms and legs. Exercises to not get blood clots, moving of my toes, and heels, leg strengthening too. Hard part will be to sleep with a pillow in between the legs. Sleeping won't be easy due to fresh pain. No matter how much pain Med's you get or use. I think after about 2 weeks, I may use pillow to lay on side, since I am a sidewinder anyway. It's keeping the wound clean and cleaning my hands and using clean towels and wash clothes. Disinfection my home is important. And any pots or pans or dishes remove from lower shelf and add to top of counter. It's only for a little while. Do it right and never CROSS THOSE LEGS! Your surgery would become a waste! And don't turn so fast that you hear this crrrraaackkkk!!! Big mistake! Am hoping my blood thinners will be a 81mg of baby aspirin, the 325mg, is a bit to harsh particularly to my stomach, even with food! Most of my friends who had hip and knee replacement in 2019, all said they got baby aspirin. I'll talk to my doctor and see if he will allow me to have it. Pain killers, extra strength Tylenol. I don't want Opioids! Tired of them, particularly the hydro-done ones. Man, I'll be asleep for hours why knock my self out more! Hello!! I want to get well not worse. So since it's now going into fall, winter, wear a mask if friends come to help you, and if you go outside for a 1/2 ride and come home. No bending that operated leg! Follow instructions and you will be fine!

Hey everyone 31 years old. I have lupus and before the bone deterioration I was a dancer. For now I still am and I'm scared because dancing is my life's work. Does it disappear after hip surgery, are there dancers that can help me through this? I'm trying to stay positive but this everything I feared and I just wanted to hear perspectives from athletic individuals and dancers if possible. Anything to not feel like I'm losing my whole identity.

Greetings from Kolkata, India. Your video is really fantastic and enlightening. I am a victim of femoral head fracture and it was operated upon three months back. (Let me tell you I am nearly 80 years of age.) My physiotherapist (they call them selves Dr) have given me a number of exercises, he gave 40 sittings with the same exercises! I asked him how to climb up and down the stairs (though I did not start it), he told me to climb up first surgical leg should move up, and while climbing down, non-surgical side move. I am confused. Please enlighten me about it. More questions I have which I will ask you after getting the reply.
