I watch Daily Rider and I believe Zack tries his best to remain impartial. He did laugh and giggle more than a few times on it. But in the end it was the dreaded range anxiety and hefty price point compared to ICE bikes with similar specs and features that explain its low ranking. The Zero DSR/X met a similar fate on the 2023 Daily Rider board. Yet has stated that the DSR/X is on his wishlist.

Agree 👍 This bike and the S2 Mulholland that just came out were designed for congested cities with abundant level 2 charging, and those that aren’t going 100 miles a day, or care fuck all about group rides. No shifting, no clutch, no gears, instant torque, is worth every penny, and very practical for urban commuters. Yes, there’s a premium for being in the EV space because it’s new technology backed by Harley Davidson with proper dealer support. For those that have a level 2 home charger and a charger at work, you’re essentially paying cents to charge to full for a 20-30 mile round trip, you’ll probably pay $60 for the entire year with zero maintenance. All the ICE heads in the comments are triggered because they don’t like strong opinions about electric motorcycles being better than gas. It is better and far more efficient when you use the bike for its intended purpose.

You can always buy add on storage with lockable saddle bags and tanks bags, but I always prefered the underseat storage of scooters that can fit a full face helmet and also keep food items away from the cold and heat outside and is not a visible target for thieves. That's one of the big things I liked about the Fuell Fllow design. Hopefully it will actually make it to production at some point, but if not, that's definitely something that Livewire should copy.

I must say considering how overall positive Zac was on the Del Mar, I feel like calling his vid a "hit piece" is a bit unhinged...if anything this ridiculous response vid is the actual hit piece. For starters, just because the Del Mar is at the bottom of the list doesn't mean he thinks it's a bad bike and he even had the "fire" sticker next to it indicating that it was an exceptionally fun/rowdy ride. Maybe you're new to this video series but being easy to commute through the city is not the sole criteria for rankings. He ranks the bikes as if he was personally recommending them to an unknown person as an only bike that will be used for commuting AS WELL AS general pleasure riding (which is a very broad use). While the Del Mar does commuting through town very well, that's kind of all it does...and most other ICE bikes (apart from supersports which also rank poorly) are fantastic at commuting as well. For $15k+ most riders are going to expect more usage beyond just commuting and the daily rider rankings reflect that.

The Del Mar Daily rider was not a hit piece, but this vid sure is. I'll keep this brief, you are clearly a guy doing well for himself and the 15k for the Del Mar is a no brainer for your style of riding. But just to put things in some perspective for you, you could spend 5K on say a used SV650, Versys650, nc700/750, vstrom 650, or whatever. In what world do the running costs of a 5k bike that gets 50+mpg catch up to something like a Del Mar over the lifetime of either of these bikes? That Del Mar is going to have a toast battery in 10 years and those ICE bikes will still work just fine and be worth a few grand. How much is a Del Mar battery? As a value proposition, all EVs are currently bad. The range is bad, the residual value in 5-10 years is VERY bad because the battery wears out by then. I find myself boggled by the EV simps out there. When batteries become a lot cheaper and modular and easily recyclable, yes they will make a LOT of sense! But as it currently stands it just doesn't. The battery issue is an enormous big ticket maintenance item after 5-10 years that must be replaced that destroys all the value proposition an EV could potentially have. And I'm skeptical that you'll even be able to get a battery for one of these in 10 years. You'll be stuck sending the battery pack off to a specialist to have it dismantled and all the 21700 cells replaced individually or something. I think it's great you like the Del Mar but your arguments on why it has more value compared to all other bikes as a daily rider/commuter are wrong.
I really like the bike and enjoyed my recent test drive on it quite a bit. I'm curious how the end of '24 releases of the Can-Am electric motorcycles will change the landscape. However, I was surprised that after having proven themselves as knowledgeable with developing "level 3" DC fast charging on the Livewire, they would not include that with this bike at this price point. Honestly, for $15k, I'd expect both "level 2" and "level 3" support.

You make plenty of good points about why electric bikes are great daily commuters. But I think it's a little over the top to call the original video a "Hit Piece". He says a ton of positive stuff about the bike. Basically all the same positive stuff you say in this very video. You just don't agree with his subjective opinion on what he'd recommend to someone. And the elephant in the room you don't spend enough time on is range and cost. Some people can't afford a del mar, outright. And that's part of recommending a bike is accessibility. Range also matters. Sure, you mostly commute on your bike. But the second you wanna go out on a sunny weekend and do a proper full day of exploring you're just out of luck. You have a couple hours tops. A daily rider *should* give the option for pleasure riding on the weekend. The del mar can do that but it's very limiting. Maybe he ranked the bike too low but the above factors definitely erode your stance that he made a "hit piece". I mean just go watch the video again he's very positive about the bike and even argues against the range concerns I describe above.

Also, the list you posted of "daily rider must haves" seems completely like an opinion. I ride a DR 650 every day and I have for several years now and it has about a quarter of the items you listed and it is still a great daily rider in my opinion. Ice bikes I seen over 100k miles on same engine and still runs fine especially at the cost of this bike. The Del Mar is a heavy bike with short range and isn’t made for long distance. So it’s a 15k bike, that’s heavy but designed for stop and go riding ? Don’t have to spend 15k to do with this bike do you can spend less and do more ! And let’s not forget to address how any day battery technological advancement can make this bike completely obsolete oh and let’s not forget the resale value on these bike are horrendous.. and let’s not forget repairs ! Shops are not in abundance and many techs are not trained in dealing with these bikes so most ppl will have no choice but to go to the dealer and it’s more so for warranty reasons as well, and from what I heard from many livewire owners all across the country is the Harley shops really don’t know what they are going and most are having long repair times and part delivery times ( cus u have to get parts from Livewire). I had many tell me they had to return their bike soon after they brought it and even after they received it from being fixed! Oh and let’s not forget the recall on new Del Mar due to loose nut! 15k on a new bike with a recall cause of loosen nuts etc is insane! Yea we appreciate you 40 years plus of rider , but no1 needs 40 years on a bike to conclude you are bias ! And I get it I love electric motorcycles I started on electric never had a gas bike but I been round them enough to know that gas are overall better and electric bikes are toys for those who can afford them .. Oh let’s not forget uncertainties that’s come with these bikes! You have to plan your trips around a bike! Yeah that’s crazy !life is filled with nothing but uncertainties. What if something happens ? What is you plan on charging at a station and you get there and the station is broken then what? What if you are riding and plan to charge at a replanned station you have enough juice to get there but u get an emergency call ? But you can’t turn around and go cus you can’t make it back!? What if your wife or family members got rushed to the er in unstable conditions or what is someone is breaking into you house and your wife calls you telling you someone is breaking in but you can’t go to any aid cus you gotta charge your damn 15k e bike? .. think this isn’t realistic? @@freedomiseverything cool. but the point is still for me the del mar, is NOT a suitable bike for a daily commute. full stop. no nothing else it is the same for an electric car. not suitable for my use due to a number of factors, some are due to where and how my home is built, and thats before other factors, also, your, not you're but I will stand by zac's opinion, and I think you need to pull your head out a little, and listen to what Zac has been saying about elec bike, which is, he is a fan, thats a fact, he is on record, he loved the sondar bike

Lol, "electric motorcycles that offer us the only future for our sport". Your description tells me all I need to know. Your California dogmatic views are showing and I humbly disagree, gas bikes will be around for a long time to come....just maybe not in California.

The jokes on you. The list of gas bikes killed by emission regulations is growing longer every day. The bikes that are left are getting weaker and more expensive. Do you really think an R7 is a better bike than an R6? The writing is on the wall.
@quintonmacdougall71507 ай бұрын
@freedomiseverything For the average user, yes. More torque available from down low with the R7. Aren't you advocating for electrics that make peak torque down low and aren't known for their topend rush? Also america and California is hardly the Needle mover on a global market. Asia sells much more bike than the USA. Not only that for every 4 cylinder that is killed there are 5 twins that pop up, since the regulations you refer to really only kill Uber high rpm bikes. Well said. Thanks for posting. I watched part of that Daily Rider video, but had to cut it short because it was such a hack job.

Couldn't agree more. I don't watch RevZilla much but I did see this bs. I'm so sick and tired of "reputable" entities paying some talking head to trash their advertisers competition. You can practically see his nose grow a few inches when he says he could have had as much fun on the other options. The news is fake, product reviews are fake, every damn thing on the internet or television is fake, fake, fake it seems but honest creators/KZbinrs are easy to spot in comparison and thanks for being one of 'em. For a daily commute I can't find anything that holds a candle to the Delmar/S2 and I'm ordering one soon. Maybe the Mulholland. 🤔

Shame on you for riding an electric pile of junk.!
Your daily rider definition is odd! I ride everyday and most of your list is just stupid. I don't have a job. I own several vehicles. I often ride in rural areas. And Extreme safety is overdoing it!!! Zac's opinion only has the value you give it! Stopped watching at your daily rider definition.
