One thing I noticed which I love about your dynamic with your kids is that if they interrupt you, you stop talking, let them finish, and then continue with what you were saying. That really shows them that what they say has value and it will also teach them they don't need to constantly repeat themselves or interrupt in order to be heard
@sydnie5957

As a psychologist this makes not much sense. We need to teach our children, that they need to WAIT. Yes to wait before they can talk, or do other things such as eating before everyone sat down.
@ThePinkStrawberrie
@ThePinkStrawberrie 2 жыл бұрын
Waiting until someone finished what they wanted to say is a totally different thing from not being heard. Don't compare two different things. Kids need to learn to respect what one says, wait and listen before they talk. Thats one important thing about socialization. Otherwise they learn to be egoistically, that they always come first and so on. After they waited they get the reward to be heard. That again is a completly different thing from idiot parents who ignore their children. It hasn't to be just the one or the other way.

Such a nice day! When making sourdough I just mix all the ingredients in at once. Also, if you slice the top of the bread before cooking it should stop the air pockets. 2 other tips- add some sesame seeds (1 tablespoon per loaf) and the smell as they cook in the bread is amazing! Also, check out the extra-long loaf pans. I cook 2 batches in one loaf pan that way and it's more the traditional shape and quicker.

I highly recommend The Elliot Homestead (she has a KZbin) DRY SOURDOUGH STARTER! It is a game changer and it really saved me so much flour. Here are my tips for sourdough baking (which I’ve done for a very long time): 1)You can easily zero out most scales and add your ingredient to your main bread bowl instead of using various dishes. Saves you time on washing dishes! 2) If you are just beginning I recommend starting out in a loaf pan. You don’t have to worry about scoring or getting high amounts of steam. 3) Please try sourdough bread if you believe you struggle with gluten! Many have found that sourdough bread is the only way they can consume it, as it is the actual way our bodies should consume grains (soaked, soured, and even sprouted). 4)Sourdough is a LEAN dough with very high hydration. It must be handled with care. Do not disrupt this balance by adding extra flour. The stickiness is good and important. Stretch and folds are the way to develop this bread. When transferring the dough be careful. Usually try to tip the bowl or proofing basket and help gently slide it out, do not simply reach into the bowl and take it out, this will hurt the gluten developed. 5)Dip your fingers in water before dealing with the dough and throughout the process - this will prevent sticking. Avoid using extra flour!

@@tobaccokitten I’m sorry, I don’t see why this matters? Ellen isn’t just a vegan? She’s a mom, a wife, a friend, a daughter, sister and so much more beyond that. At first I watched because of her gentle parenting since I was a new mom. I then continued to watch to learn how to get my son to eat greens, the way her marriage works is so inspiring. The relationship with her sister I have with mine. Turning vegan was just a bonus. I’ve struggled staying vegan fully. I think the longest has been a yr. To answer your question, I am, and I hope to stay vegan for the long run this time around. For my health firstly, for the planet and the animals. Ellen has made it known that she isn’t against being friends with ppl who are not vegan. I applaud her for that. Just because you’re one thing doesn’t mean you have to be against another. That’s what she talks about in a few of her podcasts. I love her for that. She has no hate. She only loves and inspires ppl. “Are you vegan” shouldn’t be the question here. I could not be a vegan and still watch and try all her foods. Honestly it’s how I started my transition. Her recipes and Hannah’s are amazing. You wouldn’t even feel like it’s a vegan meal. Stay humble and much love to you and to all.

Try using half bread flour instead of all purpose then the rest wheat, and add a bit more bread flour each time you knead. The bread should hold its shape a little better. And when you cook your bread try putting a pan of water under it! It cooks the bread a little better and has a nicer texture. Also putting oil on the sides of your bowl after kneading will keep the bread moisturized while its rising

If the bread has too much moisture in it it will separate or crack like that. How hydrated your starter is can effect that. Scoring your bread before baking can help it release moisture and prevent cracking or separation. Also if you didn’t release all the gases after the first rise can cause this too.

@@katienichols3512 Just use 100grams of wheat flour and 100ml of tap water, mix it smooth and leave it on your counter. After 12hrs you will feed your starter with one tablespoon of wheatflour and one tablespoon of tap water. 12hrs after that you do the same thing again. Now for the next five days you'll feed your starter with the same ratio every 24 hours. And baaam... you got yourself a starter. Just leave it on your counter the entire time so it will be able to ferment. If your kitchen/house temperature is a little colder in generell, it might take a little longer. Just keep feeding the starter and it'll just be fine. You know it is ready, when you see bubbles in your starter, it has risen and it smells sour. I suggest making more starter and then putting it in the fridge. As soon as it is in the fridge, it will go to sleep and you only have to feed it one in while. As soon as you need it, just take it out, feed it and leave it on the counter for a couple of hours so it can reactivate. Your sourdough will become better and better over time.

Great that you're making sourdough! That dough looks like it could soak up some more water. Every flour, starter and kitchen is different so try to adjust the recipe according to the stuff you're working with. Also, in general, whole grain wheat flower is more "thirsty" than white. Good luck! Also, whenever you touch the dough, almost while shaping, wet your hands to avoid stickiness.

If you mix the starter with the water first (and mix using the handle of a wooden spoon) until all combined, then add the flour, it is way easier to mix. Then let mixture sit for 30 minutes before doing the folds with your hands. Works really well :)

Hi Ellen, you need to cut a tiny crease at the top of the bread to let the air out. This way you wont get the air bubble under the crust.

You may have already heard from someone else (I scrolled and didn't see), but a Danish dough whisk is a major game changer for making sourdough! You won't get your hands dirty at all anymore with one of those. Thanks for another sweet video!

The large air pocket is from over proofing/proving - in simple terms it got too puffy. Usually one turns the dough out of the proofing bowl or basket so the top becomes the bottom. Scoring with a razor or serrated knife helps open the loaf up. There are a lot nuances that one can get lost in with baking sourdough bread. It’s alive! It may come out differently, but in the end it’s just bread. Enjoy!
