8:32 quite honestly I think those juxtapositions are our greatest gifts as sailors, if we were on a path of growth and development. Being so connected with nature's ebb and flow runs us through the ringer of elation and despondency. As we continue, we begin to settle down and balance, with experience seeng, feeling, such intense climaxes and deep troughs. I think if we are to go back into the life of land lubbers we may find we approach it with more balance and ease.

😂 Luca was not soooo impressed with Boga’s young spirit and slightly wild and energetic temper at times 😊 but all in all, they did get along quite alright. Sadly, Luca passed away, though 🥹.

Your there, your in that place between joy,piece, and sheer terror and worry of the cruising sailor. I always said that the none sailor thinks it’s always wine and cheese on deck at sunset. They don’t know about the nights sitting at anchor watch not knowing if your going to loose your home in the middle of a terrifying storm with all your chain out and it’s tight and pulling like hell at your bow rollers. No your at that point you have to except the good knowing there is always the bad. Keep going, you got it girl.

I replaced my standing rigging while anchored in Playa Panama after breaking a shroud (2018). That marina is ridiculous, with poor resources. Playa Panama was nice

Years ago I read a book by a British mountain climber, who sailed with a well known yachtsman to climb some sea stacks in Scotland. He described sailing as "long periods of boredom, broken by moments of sheer terror" I think he summed up sailing pretty well.

"Buying a sailboat...is definitely worth it". Yeah, that's what I usually conclude when stepping off other people's boats after spending some days sailing and some nights anchoring. But when am I ready in terms of skills required in handling and maintaining a boat? On a 10m boat without having crew all the time. I have absolutely no clue... Grüße aus Deutschland

Less boat is more manageable and it's also a lot cheaper too. Less boat is also equally fun as a larger boat. Try going for a 18ft LOA(=Length OverAll) boat. Probably cost about 1/6 to 1/4 of the 30 ft boat. Maintenance cost and time spend maintaining the boat are also the same: 1/6 to 1/4.

Maybe try to find someone where you can crew for a longer period, maybe 2-3 months, to experience a bit of the maintenance side as well, rather than just a couple of days vacation. The idea of first getting a smaller boat is also a good advice. Especially if you start cruising around the Baltic Sea e.g. and if you see that it’s for you, you can still sell the boat and move on to a bigger one. Do you like solving problems, working with your hands, don’t mind getting urself a bit dirty? Usually, if we don’t like doing sth on land or don’t feel comfortable doing it, then it will be similar on a boat. Just a couple of thoughts ☺️
