The analogy you used about the open tabs explains that endless mental aerobics and exhaustion educators experience daily. The to do list never ends. I became an AP and the cracks in the broken system continue to expand. I resigned from education last year because many people saw as complaining is the reality and anguish many educators feel. Keep shining as you are helping so many by being transparent in your journey. We are much more than educators. 🙏🏽 God bless you. Peace and 💙

I completely feel the same way! As a SPED teacher I feel like planning and teaching are interrupted by different behavior crises happening constantly!! My brain hurts😵💫

It is amazing how important being able to park in “your” parking spot is! It’s my spot, I park there EVERY DAY, now GET OUT. And yes, your description of having multiple brain tabs open and trying to do all the things but needing a quiet spot to just stop, sit, and think….been there and am there now. The state of our county’s political climate isn’t helping. Everything is on overload and has been for a while. I love your vlogs and am so enjoying your this week, but please take care of yourself.

I am right there with you (here in Illinois) and just didn’t know how to explain what I was feeling. Thank you for putting word to the way I have been feeling lately. Also, it’s hard for those who are not in education to understand why I’m so tired and just want to get away from work when I get home.

Among all my other thank-yous to you, I have to thank you for acknowledging the whirlwind brain (my term) that always really kicks in this time of year. I completely felt your feeling of not even being able to find mental space and calm to clarify the thoughts I want to think about! What is that about?! Some days seem to be worse than others, but you are NOT ALONE.

Loving the daily vlogs!!! I also get a little annoyed when people don’t acknowledge “parking lot protocol”. I park in the same spot each day and if I’m running late and someone is parked there immediately I’m annoyed 🙄 .

I agree with you concerning too many standards. In eighth grade where I teach, the standards are the foundation for every single science class in high school. I am teaching earth, energy, genetics, biology, anatomy, physical science; all in one year.

Enjoying the daily vlogs but you do what is best for you. I totally get it. There has been such a shift in education these last few years. Increasing bureaucracy within school districts, increasing behavioral problems with no help, to me parents are getting worse thinking its the teachers job to solve their child's problem while we are dealing with 29-30 other kids who need us and are being disrupted as well.

It's not just the US. I teach in the Bahamas and our pacing guide, especially for the first 2/3 months, is SO rapidfire it's like...how exactly are the kids meant to perfect these skills if I am meant to spend just one day, one 45 minute period, on a topic and move on by the next day? Luckily, we are able to move as we see fit based on the needs of the kids but, even then, there are certain admins that will constantly question why your class is "only" on this topic. The amount of times I have to say "they're not ready to move on" over the year is a lot.

I completely agree with your "Less is more" approach-it's how I operate, too. Unfortunately, this sometimes gets interpreted as me "not doing enough," which is really just code for "she's not playing the game of performative busyness and doesn't feel the need to compete for the spotlight."

I can totally relate to having too many mental tabs! There just isn’t time or brain space to carry it all and I feel like maybe there use to be for me, but definitely not now. It doesn’t seem to be that way for my colleagues which is interesting… I just want to shelve books at the library. Not be a librarian, just shelve the books in peace. Also loving the vlogs!
