Even more impressive than Sebastian's win in Monza in 2008 was the fact that he single-handedly trashed not only the "mothership" but also the combined points tally of the three other Red Bull drivers on the grid (DC, Webber, Bourdais) that season. A feat no other Red Bull "junior driver" before or after him could ever replicate.

He basically single-handedly ruined Bourdais' F1 career in doing so, after that one'd previously won four back-to-back Indycar titles and was running 4th in his first F1 race before his car failed with a lap to go. After that, Vettel dominated him in a midfield team to an extent that people actually thought Bourdais wasn't that good of a driver. In truth it was just that the young Seb was so phenomenal.

As a huge Vettel fan, he has gotten weak mentally especially in 2017 and 2018 where Lewis played him…and Ferrari being Ferrari. Also he got distracted into politics. Sebastian will always be one of the greatest champions F1 has ever seen. His pure love for this sport and the history of it is unrivaled. I personally think that Seb was the kind of driver that needed to feel absolutely comfortable in a team, like a second family, to be able to display his full skills and potential. Red Bull was able to give him this kind of "family" feeling that he surely missed at Ferrari and Aston Martin. One thing he will always have my respect for is leaving Red Bull. He could've gone the easy way like Hamilton and just stay in the same team, as long as they give him the best car on the grid, but instead he wanted to challenge himself and also fulfill his childhood dream of driving for Ferrari. This is something we won't see anymore. The current and upcoming driver generation doesn't care about the sports history. They don't care about what it means to drive for legendary teams like Ferrari or McLaren. They only care about getting in the best car, no matter who it belongs to, to one day leave the sport as rich as possible.

Think that’s a bit of a generalisation and not really fair. Norris has and continues to show a lot of loyalty to mclaren, Leclerc may moan a lot but he clearly wants to win with Ferrari, Verstappen has talked about spending his whole career with red bull. Russell was never going to drive for anyone other than Mercedes as soon as they decided he was ready. They’re obviously young so have plenty of time for things to change but when you compare that to Hamilton jumping ship from Mclaren after they mentored him from a young age , Alonso racing from every top team at different stages, raikonnen racing for both mclaren and Ferrari, you can argue the current generation are (so far) more loyal to their marques and their history and less willing to jump ship to a faster car at the drop of a hat than their peers from the previous generation?

I said it so often but i say it again: Vettel probably faced the most talanted driver ever and won against everyone at some point. He has never realy a easy season, every single win was a fight. The "downfall" at Ferrari was at a time when he already accomplished everything he wanted, when he was grown up and realized there is more in the world. If Alonso would have ever found the right women for a family he wouldn't be around so long ether (and he would absolutely deserve it)

Seb was brutally fast in the right car but like most drivers he needed the car to fit his strengths in order to maximise his speed. This is true of even the best drivers in history and it was just unfortunate for Seb that he couldn't quite find that magic blend of driver and machine at Ferrari for in the V6 era in general. Not to mention how fast Mercedes and Lewis were at the time. - The only driver in my time watching F1 who seems to be able to drive anything at close to their maximum is Fernando but he is a freak of nature. I can't speak to the likes of Senna or Jim Clark because I only started watching in 1996 (by all accounts they were freaks of nature too). Seb was fast and mighty and should be considered a great of the sport regardless of his drop off after 2013.

That pair of title shots he had at Ferrari were unquestionably a massive turning point in Vettel's career, especially the latter chance. Had he won both or even one of those, it would have made him a champion at multiple teams and restored Ferrari to championship glory. As it was he lost one he could have won, another he should have and largely through his own mistakes. Hamilton cemented himself as the king of their generation, pushing onwards towards Fangio and Schumacher, while Vettel seemed to lose that edge and self-confidence he'd previously had.

@@KawabongahliveI think Alonso still woulda been fucked in 2017. The only results Seb lost in 2017 were Singapore (Fernando wasn’t perfect, Fuji 07), Baku (Fernando def picks up points for the win here), and then silverstone Suzuka and Malaysia with tyre blowups and car problems. That’s it. Other than that he was perfect. So 2 mistakes and a perfect run besides 3 huge mechanical failures. Lewis had none of the mechanical stuff, I think nando loses still in 17 for sure, but tbh, without Singapore, Malaysia (Seb wins these 2) and Japan (finishes 2nd here), and then a real Mexican gp that wasn’t just CHAOS because of the champ situation going in, I’d say Seb has a damn good shot of taking it to a title decider. Not for sure winning, but getting it to the last race (that Mercedes was dominant at anyways so he prolly woulda lost 😂😂) Point being 2017 was a no go, he drove very well but did 2 dumb things and had bad reliability so no chance even without mistakes. 2018 on the other hand. Ah man. First 2 races great. 3rd race on China, Ferrari ruined the strategy. No chance for Alonso, hopefully max doesn’t spin him Baku nando wins, Spain ferrari fucked strategy. Monaco Seb did great 2nd Canada Seb did great win Austria Seb did great for p3 but had a penalty from dumb shit in Fp2 or fp3, so Alonso probably finishes p2 ahead of Kimi with no penalty. France Alonso 2nd, vettel had no podium Silverstone vettel phenomenal win Hockenheim nando win Hungary Seb did great for p2, nando does same Belgium great seb win, great nando win Italy nando finds a way fuck it, p1 Singapore p3 Seb did great for shit car pace Japan p2 Seb ducked it Usa p1 Seb ducked it Mexico p2 Seb did great, nando p2 Brazil nando p3-4 ferrari had no pace Abu Dhabi nando p2, just like seb Overall I count 84 points nando would have gained overall. Great drivers go to die in Ferrari. It's a place of gross politics, bad reliability, and terrible bosses. What is upsetting is that now happening to Leclrec and Sainz. Watching Seb lose for Ferrari was a real gutter. He seemed to be his own worst enemy on track and it was so sad to watch his decline over his Ferrari years but as Andybp872 says working with Ferrari aint easy, they've performed like a bunch of amateurs in recent years, its embarrassing.

Sebastian, especially today couldn't hold a candle to Max... Plenty of F1 drivers have sweetheart stories, going all the way back to when they had to be put into carts / karts by their parents at age whatever... His golden years in this case were definitely fueled by RedBull getting ahead of the curve.. I'm not saying that Max isn't enjoying that as well with the latest RB... The difference is, and hate if you want, Max could jump into the weeker of the toro roso cars and quite possibly win by sheer will alone.. No TRUE racer likes 2nd place, much less being back in the back... I was and am a fan of Sebastian.. I don't think it was the cars that necessarily failed him... I think he fell in love with those championships, AND when Hamilton showed up, it through him off the game he got used to.. I have always been a mega fan of Senna.. I wish he hadn't died for a variety of reasons, and that we really missed out on Shui and him really getting it on.. He lost his edge, I do believe... Him coming back with a new Audi team would hurt the team, for sure.. There's no way unless they come up with some UFO delivered package will he beat either Max, Lewis, and a ton of other current talent.. That idea just has bad written all over it... Maybe if Audi puts out something impressive, they might just luck in to Max or Hamilton, etc. as their #1.. IF Sebastian wants to be in the paddock again, he should try out for pit bitch and work hard...

The one thing that goes unmentioned: Vettel seems to skeet out of a team just as he gets a consistently quicker and faster teammate. It has to be one of the reasons he's rarely mentioned in the same breath as other multi-championship F1 drivers. He seems more concerned with hair plugs, appearing super progressive and playing with bees in Japan (how many of those bees survived that whole experience?) than anything else. Fairly textbook "white knight" narcissist.

The same happened at Red Bull. Another driver who was able to beat him constantly joined the team.......... Vettel was unable to deal with it. Both times he started to underpeform even more and ran away instead of taking the challenge and prove that he is a champion. That's about it.

I think another top driver would have won the 2018 championship with that Ferrari or at least be 30 points behind Lewis. No offense to Vettel, who is one of the best drivers in the history but in those years he no longer had the level he showed us in Red Bull. Sorry if I make some mistakes when writing, it's not my first language and I'm still learning.

as a vettel fan I agree his mistakes cost the title (if you estimate conservatively, he would have been neck-to-neck with lewis in points). It was a very odd year, because since the italian grand prix, where he did not get the tow of his team mate in quali, made an error and spun in the race. He never was the same, even though he had peaks in 2019, 2021, 2022. He is mentally tough, as he came back to win titles (even did great in races - tail end of the season (high pressure times) in 2010 and 2012. Idk what politics was played at ferrari that weekend (where kimi was anounced to leave, marchionne (CEO) passed away). But this + the way they fired him (lying to the media). Just put a nail in the coffin on vettel. So close yet so far to be talked in the goat category. Ferrari will never win again unless they have strong leadership, otherwise more legends will join the list of not winning titles with ferrari. (Alonso, Vettel, Mansell, Prost). Who have 11 titles. Being a ferrari fan is like being a man utd fan lmao

If you take a tiger and from the jungle and put it in a swamp it will no longer rule the other creatures in this new environment and if you put a monkey in a land that has no trees it will become an easy target to predators. Any change to the environment leads to different results. If the animal was forced to change its environment it is pointless to stay in the game and it is better to announce retirement.
