@@elcactusdelamuerte506 Hate to breake it to you but nearly every driver nowadays is a nepo baby. Abt arguably has a family legacy so him becoming a driver too seems more natural then the 33rd unkonwn chinese driver getting a seat because his daddy is a tech billionaire. Looking back it was a stupid move by audi ruining a 20-30 year old partnership with abt truning away from audiafterwards and changing their bussines from excluysively audi to nearly everything else aswel. Not a big fan of daniel himselfe but its sad to see audi ruin such an iconic german motorsport partnership :c
@elcactusdelamuerte50617 күн бұрын
@adambrezing where did I say they weren't? Motorsport for the most part is millionaires and billionaires racing on their parents dime Well talking about FE there's only ever been two Chinese FE drivers both of which had more success prior to FE than Daniel. One of which left FE to go and fight for the WEC title. Does success and ability not mean they were more deserving than legacy? I think it explains a lot that after losing his FE seat Daniel retired from Motorsport to be a party planner, he wasn't good enough for a drive elsewhere. I mean the whole controversy started because in equal machinery he wasn't as fast as any of the other FE drivers so got a none pro driver to stand in for him, he himself knows he ain't got the ability. As for destroying the abt-audi/VW relationship it's so sad the relationship collapsed what will the world of cars do without it... Wait they still work together and signed a new contract to allow them to sell tuned up Audi road cars less than 6 months ago that's reported to be a minimum 5 year deal. Huh guess their demise was greatly exaggerated.

When nascar questioned the legality of the race car someone said “there’s a silver one just over there go compare it to that” but the car still didn’t get to race. Big Bill wrote him a cheque. Smokey wiped his ass with it and gave it back to him according to Smokey’s daughter Trish

I was missing the 1999 F1 season. Some teams decrypted the radio signal for the starting sequence and gave the drivers a visual signal in the cockpit a few milliseconds before the lights went off. The FIA found out and manipulated the starting sequence to make the lights last a tiny bit longer for the European Grand Prix. This way they could easily spot the teams using this trick because of several synchronized false starts. This moment is looking incredibly funny.

Essentially despite what was said here he had the seat through nepotism and is very much like Stroll in the case he's an okay driver but far from great. Alongside being meh in terms of ability he also had a track record of poor behaviour, it's not hard to see that Audi claiming this hurt their brand's reputation was more of an excuse so they could force his father to sack him. They were likely waiting for a screw up they could take advantage of for a while
@lucvincentmetz814422 күн бұрын
@@elcactusdelamuerte506 I agree. Abt wasn't a bad driver but clearly not as consistently quick as his teammate Lucas di Grassi. My guess is, that Audi didn't want Abt on the team anymore and this attempted prank gave them the perfect excuse or reason to get rid of him. So whilst it may sound a little overblown to fire a long time employee for such a misconduct, it makes sense from Audi's perspective.
@ugn66910 күн бұрын
Whats so difficult to understand? The guy put someone else behind the wheel and acted as if he didnt. Of course hes going to claim that it was just a bit of lighthearted goofing around... but rules are rules. Had he admitted what happened right after the race I'm sure the outcome wouldve been different. But he tried to actually play it off as if he drove... until it was clear that nobody is buying that story, then the claims of 'joking around' started. I have no problem with pushing the rules, the way Smokey did it. But what Abt tried was straight up cheating, and that deserves a strong punishment.
@elcactusdelamuerte50610 күн бұрын
@@ugn669 Did you watch the vid or follow the story at the time? Abt straight up joked multiple times wouldn’t it be funny if I got someone to stand in on stream before the event. While not mentioned here we also know the entire thing was filmed from another angle (we have the footage) with the pro sim driver who stood in saying they filmed this and some “behind the scenes” chats and skits with Abt’s telling the sim racer the plan was to do a prank video of what they did. Now maybe I’m missing something, but openly admitting to something to thousands of people before the incident happened, creating evidence of your ‘crime’ and telling people involved you’re going to use said evidence to reveal everything that happened doesn’t exactly scream secret covert operation that will never be revealed. Essentially the scenario from Abts point of view is he didn’t give a shit about some video game and didn’t expect anyone else to be taking it seriously, so why not have some fun. To him it was all a joke.

Couple of things: 1- Alonso had pace in Singapore, he probably would’ve been in contention for the win had it not being for mechanical woes. Also, the only reason Crashgate worked at the time was because the pits would close when the SC came out and therefore it would bunch the whole field up before opening again (which Briatore and Symonds knew, hence why they pitted Fernando early). The guys that stayed out during that period had to pit again and someone got a penalty for pitting with the pitlane closed, handing the lead to Alonso. This whole situation was a unnecessary, considering he won the next round in Fuji on raw pace alone. 2- MWR and Penske didn’t talk between them. The whole Gilliland-Logano thing was completely separate, since both Front Row Motorsports and Penske were technical partners and it was an order that came from above. Vickers pitted during the restart, not in the last lap, which guaranteed Truex’s spot and after Logano passed Gilliland he got in as a consequence, too. The ensuing mess had Brian France put Jeff Gordon in the Chase as well simply because he could, arguing that “he got screwed by the situation” which he did, but the rulebook is there for a reason (naïve of me to expect NASCAR or any ruling body to be comprehensive and coherent with the rules, I know).
