After more than two years of Ukraine holding back Russia's invasion, this summer Kyiv flipped the script and sent its troops marching into Russia. The pipe runs through Ukraine but they can’t stop the flow (no control valve on Ukrainian territory). However, on Russian territory, there are control valves and you may thus stop the flow at will.

It is just another Battle of the Bulge. A push into Russia that cost more lives and loss of equipment that cannot be recovered or repaired. I would have thought those resources could have been better left in Ukraine in a defensive role. it is sad loss of life on both sides, mostly young men that will never get to live the lives they deserved.
