The book by Piers Steel on Procrastination is a good one, it gave many insights on why people ( me too ) procrastinate and what to do about it. Analytically seeing the problem of procrastination works better than only forcing oneself. Like , you are able to make a truant child ( your mind ) do something by convincing him rather than ordering him to do something with the fear of a punishment if he is not willing to do it.

As humans our true nature is to keep wanting more for ourselves, for better or for worse. This is missing a key component. One does not work solely for the sake of working. No one’s sole purpose is to work. It’s to work for a purpose. If you’re sitting in a cubicle under artificial fluorescent lights 40-50 hours a week to get by while simultaneously contributing to the over abundant wealth of your ceo, that is not your purpose. Make no mistake, your purpose is out there. Finding that purpose, THAT is what is worth getting out of bed for. If someone (or some KZbin video) makes you feel lazy, as if there must be something wrong with you, because you have trouble motivating yourself to get out of bed to do work that doesn’t inspire you or fulfill your purpose in any way, don’t listen to them. It's easy to get caught up in the comfort of staying in bed or avoiding work, but we have a responsibility to ourselves and to the world to contribute in meaningful ways. I think what Marcus Aurelius is really getting at is the idea of finding purpose and meaning in our lives. We can't just exist for the sake of existing; we need to actively pursue our passions and work towards a greater purpose. It's also interesting to think about the examples he gives of animals and insects, who are so diligent in carrying out their individual tasks to keep the world in order. As humans, we have the capacity to do so much more, but we often fall short. Overall, this video has inspired me to be more intentional about how I spend my time and to prioritize doing things that align with my values and purpose. And hey, if subscribing to a daily stoic email can help me stay on track, I'm all for it!

I think the issue for most people is not getting out of bed, but why am I getting out of bed to go to a job I don't like or am not passionate about. Then that normally leads to asking "what am I passionate about?" And for most people, I think we don't have passions, we try to explore the world and find the strength to put ourselves in new places/positions, but is is tough. It requires courage, to be vulnerable, to start a new. And you may find still find yourself wanting.

In a way, passions are forced out of us. Whenever I even considered working a job that doesn't pay a lot, I would be met with heavy criticism from my peers. In my experience, education has been focused on building "a person who knows how to follow orders and knows how to answer tests", but never "a person who makes the world a better place". It makes me question "why do I have to know how to answer tests?", to which people would probably reply "so you can get into a higher education degree and get a higher paying job! don't you want money?" Why is earning the only alternative to starving to death? Why is that "choice" seen as a good thing?

This really brought my love of Martial Arts into my brain. I miss the practice, the in the moment feel. My knee was broken during a training session and its made doing mundane things harder than training at some times. I was born to play and teach music. I got "permanently laid off." I was told I was not fired. The reason was that I followed the law. I was expected to work when I had COVID and then when my entire family got Covid, by mandate and my own moral compass stayed home to take care of the sick and not bring in germs. I went from 30 students to 5 and slowly down to one student. I still worked there for a long while on my Saturdays, but it was clear what was going on. I took the summer off and I have been re hired to a place that finds me students and I travel to their house for lessons. I haven't gotten a student yet. In the mean time I am going to do Amazon deliveries in my vehicle. Hopefully, that works out. I'll never give up on music though. Never.

Don't work your life away and miss out on quality of life just for the mighty dollar, it's a game they want you to play, don't chase the dollar. This makes me think of this woman I worked with who ha been with this company for over 30 years. She was denied management a dozen times despite being really good at her job. It wasn't until I told her that she's probably being held back because she's so damn good at her job and they didn't want to lose her productivity. Lol she quit and is now a happy stay at home mom. Don't waste your life working for a fake goal when in the end when you retire they only throw you a little party, sign a card, and then replace you in two weeks. 😂😂

For many years I’ve had the itch of taking my own life, as of late it’s come to a peak. I find these stoic philosophies so empowering, and yet, so soul crushing, the knowledge that as a privileged man in arguably the greatest age of discovery and advancement, the inventory of the world is at my disposal with the single touch of a button, I’ve had education, and I know I have good ideas, the never ending ether has been tamed so we can communicate Instantaneously with almost any location miles above and below the worlds surface, as I sit here, my breakfast alone has ingredients from every corner of the globe. and as never before, so many like me, see no place for themselves in the years to come. I tend to have these same thoughts. The world is too convenient nowadays. The only thing that most people work for nowadays is money, everything else has been so dumbed down that you can live your life from your couch without talking with anyone. People don't have to work for dopamine anymore, they don't have to work for food anymore, they don't have to work for relationships anymore, they don't even have to work for themselves anymore. But, this is how we can set ourselves apart from the rest of modern society, we can open our eyes to the negative aspects of the new world and we can make the changes in our lifestyle. I have been going outside in nature and mountain biking every day for around a month now, I feel so much more fulfilled than I have before. Taking your life is not an option, there are no benefits from it and it is not the easy way out, it is the cowards way out. You are not a coward, and no matter how much it might seem like the world is not worth it, that just means that you have changes to make. It is possible

@@ethanjolleyy precisely, I myself am about to walk an hour to the gym, spend afew hours doing my thing, then walking home, about an hour both ways, just so I can think. Quit my awesome job, Im 26 (was) working in the film industry, thousands a week, around literal movie stars and peculiar people, every meal made for me. I saw the light, work means nothing if you ain’t got your heart right, I was surrounded by empty shells, decorated with cool stories and fancy cars; no kids, no nothing. But god it look like a good nothing, the nothing we all work towards. Killing our character though work.. I thought I hit it big time.. it almost swallowed me, I was becoming sour, lost almost all my friends in 6 years, I was always busy, but I was.. “successful” But I now know I need to learn to be ‘poor’ I’m now purposely broke, just so I can spend time with my ageing parents, make new friends, work on my physique, something I love. Now look for something to keep me motivated to face the future. I got awhile before I come good, I still don’t know whether I want to ‘stay’, if you get me, but I think I’m on the right path now.

@@anthraxmanic this is a very motivational story, I can't believe that you were so successful and decided to walk away because you realized that the modern idea of success isn't the true meaning. It takes a very strong person to abandon all of that for the sake of improving your heart. In the end that is all that matters, success isn't determined by money, or cars. It is determined by fulfillment, whether that be raising a family, or going to the gym, or having a garden. I am proud of you, it took a lot of strength to walk away from such a lavish lifestyle, it also took a lot of self awareness to see that it wasn't going to make you happy in the end. Keep it up, use these experiences to learn what makes you happy, and grow from it.

However I had a mate kick off with us in construction, but right now he’s working in the rigging department, on a world tour 1yr after being completely green on the industry, making 3k a week. Super easy entry level that people as yourself may join off the bat No experience, take home in Australia is 1.5k on average. Unit - supply’s food for crew and coordinates catering. Runners - operates the same as any other runner would. Trades assistant- super basic carpentry, drill, driver and tool belt are the requirements
