Just subscribed to daily email. Ever since I first began to study Marcus Aurelius, I strive to be more stoic. If a Roman emperor can withstand far greater temptation than is offered to us, we should all strive to that same goal.

My favorite part was (paraphrasing) the whole thing about people/business/orgs that may have done you dirty, and they are not even a thing to waste energy on. Put them on a shelf somewhere and move forward. The sesne of actually moving forward with that level of detachment... In listening to this interview I envisioned what that would feel like to be so far liberated from those negative experiences, and thought to myself - hell yeah! What an epic success that is.

It's inspiring how two pros with noticeably incompatible personalities are having a conversation on so many relevant life topics and having both agreeing and disagreeing views on them. Normally we see people agree or disagree in these talks but this time we actually get to see a middle ground.

@@DinoCorvino look, that's cool and all, but what would Marcus Aurelius say? Making opinions on things you are totally uninformed about. Gary has shown a totally different side of himself recently...and if you are a fan of stoic philosophy, you will also understand that Marcus accepted truth can come from any source. But to call another human with no depth when you haven't even given them a real chance is pretty shallow.
@DinoCorvino
@DinoCorvino 2 жыл бұрын
@@matthewcote5198 I am sure that is true. I gave Gary a chance a long time ago, and after reading what he wrote, watching his videos, even speaking to him on the phone twice, I made a personal choice for myself that there are other things that I would like to consume. That Gary was not one of those things, and given the state of the so called content world, Gary is just one loud voices in a sea of loud voices. I am under no obligation to try to consume them all. You are free to take your truth from where ever you find it, I chose to reject Gary based on the lack of substance in his first three or four books. His participation in the so called HUSTLE culture, his support of the DISRUPTION thing. He lost me really when he talked out his ass about public schools. There are other voices I want to hear from, feel free to find yours where you wish.

I came to a conclusion that the reason why people judge others goes back to our evolutionary methods of human history. We “change/evolve” the world to suit us rather than ourselves “change/evolve” to suit the environment. We started making stone tools to give ourselves the advantage in nature rather than evolving over long periods of time. “Changing/evolving” others sounds like the expedient way to get to where we want to be. The hard way is looking inwards and change ourselves each individually.

Whether it be Kevin Rose and his bullshit tearing down a historical house, or the medical claims that are or are not posted by Ferriss, to the absolutely devoid of substance books that Gary Vee puts out combined with this youtube presence that is a long career of empty platitudes. @@DinoCorvino I would agree on some points. They were fooled by randomness and now they're talking in hindsight. But if you look at the back end, they were giving value to their market as well. But I won't discount your opinion as they also have some truth in it. ❤️

@@FrenchPhotos So here is the thing, I know no one who has worked with or for Gary Vee. And look, his books are empty and without substance. What an opportunity he has to be a great mentor, but what he gives is style, the pose, the iconography. Not the work. A thousand years ago Bill Gates wrote a 500 page book about email. Dense, and hard to get through. But, really substantive. Punch Punch Jab Jab, or whatever, the ever annoying Hustle book. These guys do REAL things, not just buzz words. Not just DISRUPT OR HUSTLE OR HACK. And they sit down on those nonsense phrases, and people go for it.
