I never noticed how beautiful your fireplace is, you gave me a smile when you stated the camera was focus on the fire instead of you. It created a cosy picture, you sitting by the fire. Yes bulbs in pots is a terrific idea I've stayed away from bulbs because of the drying time for the foliage. I enjoyed seeing the countryside with donkeys and cows. I love books also, I used to watch Monty a while back but forgot all about him, I will check him out again. Thank you for sharing and have a nice week Catherine.

Hey Catherine. Get you some rock salt (for ice cream making) and sprinkle in the cracks of cement where the weeds take hold. That should discourage any new weeds. I’d also do it on a rainy day so the salt will stick where you put it!

My husband was just complaining yesterday about how dark it gets by early afternoon. Meanwhile, I've become a little couch goblin with my fireplace, basket of knitting projects, and hot mugs of coffee living my best life. 😂 Gardening books I can recommend are Smith & Hawkins Ultimatre Gardening Guide, the Complete Gardener by Monty Don, Chasing Eden, Beginner's Guide to Herb Gardening by Yvonne Cuthbertson, and Projects for Small Gardens by Richard Bird and George Carter. That last book, I think, would be a good one for you, Catherine. I'm fairly done gardening for this season. I have also finished my Master Gardener class work and have signed up for the volunteer work I need to complete my training. Though I'd love nothing more than to become a complete potato during the winter months, I don't see it happening. I hope you get some time to enjoy your lovely fire and get some reading time in.

The potted bulbs will be gorgeous and something to look forward to as we head into winter. So sweet to see the kitties enjoying being outside and then curled up by the fire. We had a beautiful sunny day in the Twin Cities today. 55 degrees (13 Celsius) is not normal for mid-November in Minnesota, so I was able to get more garden cleanup done and finish dividing and storing Dahlia tubers. Gotta take advantage of every sunny moment I can outside as the days get shorter!

Hi Catherine, @ 25:15 I thought I was looking through to another room in your house until I saw you move your hand, and I realized it was a mirror. What a surprise, such a beautiful arched mirror. Happy Thanksgiving! 🦃

Tulips need a lot of fertilizer (and I mean a lot)and prefer sandy ground with drainage, which most of us don't have. If you fertilize your pots year-round, you might have Tulips that stay. I plant flowering Geraniums on the Tulips, which keeps the pots interesting. My Camassia's are in pot, so I can place them in an empty space.

Today I planted several varieties of allium. I still have tulips to plant in pots and winter in my garage, and ranunculus in my stash. In New Jersey, where I live, we haven’t had rain in a month and the soil is rock hard. It makes bulb planting even less enjoyable than usual.

@@lananicolas160 That is a good question!! They are lovely, and I have them in various colors, but their tendency to droop is definitely a problem. I use some delicate wire fencing around them that helps without blocking them from view. Also, I've used small orchid stakes where necessary.

The Middle Size Garden is a favorite. I'm in the US, so have to be mindful of growing zones, etc. Johnny's Seeds in Maine has webinars you might enjoy for ideas. Thanks for another lovely post. You might try self-levelling concrete crack filler. Use in a caulking gun. Dig out the crack a bit first. Product will fill the hole. Lasts for years. Salt will break up concrete over time and is bad for animal feet.

Aren't all the chores loosing battles, inside and out? Dishes, laundry, floors, leaves, weeds... I dread them all and then do them and think, 'that wasn't so bad!'. Catherine, I spent some good money trying to grow several packets of sweatpeas from seed this year (i had hope of having a some nice cut flowers). But they all died 😕 On another note my Hygragenias thrive on negligence. You should see if you can have contrain garden out the front area. Technically the council is responsible for that but it you keep it neat and tidy. I don't see why you can't have a container of plants there. Also Catherine I think you need to read a good old fashion Happily ever after romance book. It's nice to read books like that when hibernating/chillaxing.

You need some long handled leaf grabbers like professional gardeners use, which don't cost a lot but speed up leaf picking enormously. You reminded me from a previous vlog to do some lawn edging and I was shocked to discover that the lawn had eaten up half of my path!😲 Finally, you need some hair oil! It's amazing how it calms down ones hair! 😁 I got mine from Aldi (a dupe).
